You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

In today’s BBC article but right at the end - why are the not leading with this as a story?

But school leaders have warned that their budgets have been stretched by the pandemic to such an extent that they are having to weigh up pupil safety against their finances, the Guardian reports.
Additional cleaning, personal protective equipment, the installation of hand washing stations and signs, plus the purchasing of laptops for remote working are among the Covid-related expenses incurred by schools, head teachers and unions told the paper.
Meanwhile, a poll of nearly 6,000 school staff in England has found that 86% believe maintaining a social distance from both pupils and staff will not be possible.
The survey by Tes found that 66% feared guidance to avoid busy corridors, entrances and exits was unrealistic.

But that's only because the BBC didn't interview Clav who knows we saved £££££ not putting petrol in the minibus to a coup of sports fixtures!

Can't believe the % aren't higher, to be frank!

Hello all, nice chats about pens and clothes overnight! I love a good fountain pen and one that knows your hand. I used to live mixing my own inks etc for rotrings... ah blissful days!

Luckily we may have to sprint after kids so can wear leggings and tunics and trainers and have to wear sports outfit if teaching pe; so actually can wear it daily if needed. I'm eyeing up some v comfortable black ASICS vastly reduced as my peri menopausal feet can have days where they're like princess and the pea!

I've also remembered I have a good apron at school for messy stuff with loads of pockets. Think I'll just wear all the time, both for mild ppe and pockets for sanitiser, handcream, pens and viral spray! And fingerless gloves for the winter...

Danglingmod · 31/08/2020 07:55

That's a good plan, Neuro - I'd love a many-pocketed apron or workman's coat. Not sure it would class as business dress Sad.

motherrunner · 31/08/2020 08:08

Wow! A tabloid is leading with the TES survey.

As an examiner, having lost thousands this year I won't be marking through my summer holiday next year.

And less photocopying. Schools are meant to be loaded now.
No, Labour , this is not the solution:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53966943
What a disappointment. What good will a month do? They were among the annoying lot on the news who kept saying, "Students have missed 6 months of school," ignoring the Easter, May and summer holidays, but now they think a month or so extra will solve everything. It'll be especially useless if/when there is further disruption this year. This was a chance to champion teacher assessments (with evidence/moderation). What a let down. Sad Angry.

Hercwasonaroll · 31/08/2020 08:34

I can't see how moving the exams will work. It's a pretty tight deadline as it is isn't it?

oddsbodkins · 31/08/2020 08:34

Just had an email from our head saying face masks should be worn by all adults in communal areas. I'm primary and not in a lockdown area. Says we can wear our own but a mask and a visor have been ordered for us. If it comes with an academy logo on I will not be impressed.

Wobbling a bit about tomorrow but Gav says it will be ok so I'm convinced Hmm

Now, where the heck is my lanyard?

theduchessstill · 31/08/2020 08:46

I'm so nervous about going back. I know which year groups I'm with (sec but with limited movement of staff between year groups) but not which classes, have no class lists, no timetables, no idea which non specialists and how many are teaching my subject, nor which classes they have (but I know there are some), my department is short-staffed with no communication as to what to do about it and the head has ignored my last couple of emails and we just have radio silence from him. Don't even know where on site I can go tomorrow when I arrive! I have a new starter in my department, an NQT, and he's nervous and emailing me about where to go etc and I'm having to reply that I don't know! Think my head has admired the leadership of Johnson & Williamson and is now emulating it...

tadjennyp · 31/08/2020 09:04

That sounds really tough, duchess . I also have no timetable so hoping they will have that sorted by Thursday!

SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 09:08

There's a thread for SAHMs asking what they plan to do with the first day the kids go back to school. Formerbabe is on it. There's definitely a very selfish agenda to a lot of the TBing.

SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 09:12

And another eye-opener about what the teens we'll be sharing our classrooms with have been up to ...

Eurgh. Going to avoid that one. When I was in the queue to drop DD off for dance class the other day I overheard the SAHM’s planning their post drop off coffee morning Thursday and how they can’t wait to get back to some normality after the stress of the last 6 months.

So while they’re enjoying their coffee I’ll be plastering a false smile on my face whilst crying inside.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2020 09:16

There is much selfishness.

The response to the MH anxiety seems to be to have no rules at all.

In the Times today they used that bloody Woolhouse thing again, which surely now ahs been proven wrong by the PHE report??

On another note, they said people who minimise Coronavirus , fo which there is a core set on MN and won't wear masks have been shown to have Machiavellian, sociopathic, narcissistic traits. No surprise.

Panicking already about a possible change to exam dates. The DfE don't seem to think they need to make decisions quickly : but it changes the whole way one would teach.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2020 09:19

My teen has socialised once with one person. MN teens ,I always think, are at the more liberally raised end of the spectrum .Have always been able to see that on underage alcohol and teen sex threads.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2020 09:24

Also, sleepovers. MN obsessed with sleepovers.

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2020 09:28

So... let me get this straight...these women didn't like lockdown because their children were noisy, they couldn't clean, eat chocolate or go for a swim.

Christ on a bike.

motherrunner · 31/08/2020 09:29

God, sleepovers 🙄

DD is 9. Since Yr 3 the SAHM’s of girls in her class have organised group sleepovers. My DD is not invited. Think it was from the time she was invited to a pampering birthday party at a salon and sat around looking bored as she didn’t want her nails or hair done 😆

SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 09:30

@Piggywaspushed

Christ on a bike.

And that is why they're clamouring for a full return with no SD.
Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2020 09:32

These sleepovers seem to be for teenagers, though.

I think it might be because I own boys.
