You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I'm not sure that's the message schools are sending out? My own isn't.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/08/2020 08:59

@motherrunner

Prof Carl Heneghan, a Oxford University epidemiologist and practising GP, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme schools and families faced "significant disruption", with cold and flu cases meaning more pupils will have to self-isolate until they can be tested. "If your child has any symptoms they're going to have to stay off school. In the past there's been a tendency to say, you can have some Calpol, maybe you can go in. But there's going to have to be a sea-change in how parents behave with their children," he said.

Yup, can see this happening.

That’s hilarious. Carl heneghan is loved by the COVID deniers because he’s the guy that wrote the article for the Spectator on how once you’ve had Covid you can’tdie of anything else which led to the government adjusting the daily deaths number down.

I wonder if he’s off their Xmas card lists now.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 09:03

Is there really any point anyway in asking the under 10s to stay home for symptoms? As if they have symptoms it's probably a cold. If they have Covid they're probably asymptomatic.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/08/2020 09:10

@Piggywaspushed

Yeah, and now they have announced they didn't mean it.

I was looking at nobles difference checker. It's bizarre how much they tinker with connectives. Also notable is they changed the word outbreak to pandemic each time.

They didn’t mean to take it out, or they didn’t mean to put it in?

And I swear that changing connectives/slight wording thing happens to the social distancing guidance or at least the bit that refers to the CV on a regular basis.

Appuskidu · 29/08/2020 09:11

@Piggywaspushed

Latest shambles : government has removed paragraph about bubbles late last night!

FFS.

Blimey-just trying to catch up!

So, have they changed the guidance from yesterday!? What does it say now that should happen there is a positive case in a ‘bubble’?

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:12

From the BBC article:

The Department for Education amended its announcement of the guidance shortly after publication, removing a passage which said that if a single case in school or college is confirmed an entire year group or "bubble" might be asked to isolate for 14 days.

It said this was "out of date with the latest guidance at the time of publication".

I heard that this morning, tone has changed a lot overnight. I also liked the very pissed off headteacher (maybe ex head) who was clearly not impressed with the timing of the guidance.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 09:13

So, when did the guidance change and why didn't they check before publication?

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 09:15

Why didn't they check? Because they are arrogant incompetent fuckers who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.
Just a bit if consultation with unions and schools would have made their job so much easier!

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:16

Who knows @Piggywaspushed. All anything says is "out of date with the latest guidance at the time of publication".

Incompetence? Something more sinister?

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 09:16

Time for a thread outing Us 4 Them as dangerous?

Appuskidu · 29/08/2020 09:17

If someone rests positive, what happens now?

phlebasconsidered · 29/08/2020 09:18

Why not - my nephew (7) was extremely poorly with covid and hospitalised. He had classic symptoms from the get go. Both his siblings and uncle just had sniffly noses. My sister was very ill - she probably got a higher viral liad working in early years. A girl in my class also had symptoms (11) and was also ill although did not require hospital. I don't think they know what they are on about.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 09:18

Is there any point in checking the guidance before, I dunno Wednesday morning? As it will probably change again....

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 09:18

Piggy, yes. Massive Safeguarding risk.

New government approved bbc report:

Still not sure if staff are part of the bubble? Seems so.

Coronavirus: Secondary schools to move to rota system if virus cases rise https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-53954642

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:19

According to BBC:

If anyone in school tests positive, the guidance says health protection teams will carry out a rapid risk assessment to confirm who has been in close contact with the person and ask them to self-isolate for 14 days.
Two or more cases in two weeks is deemed an outbreak, which could result in further action, such as a mobile testing unit being dispatched to the school.
In some cases, health protection teams may recommend that a year group or even the whole school is asked to self-isolate at home.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 09:19

Phleb I'm sorry to hear about your nephew - is he recovered?
I'm just in despair at it all today

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:20

How ‘rapid’ is ‘rapid’ if we take into account the delays in testing?

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:20

@phlebasconsidered I’m so sorry to hear this 💐

NotDonna · 29/08/2020 09:21

Not a teacher. You’re all f’ing amazing and I’m disgusted at the teacher bashing on some threads. Please please realise those parents are definitely in the minority. I don’t know one parent like that in RL. Why the anger isn’t directed at govt is beyond me. Just want to highlight that a huge majority of parents support you!! Please don’t let these idiots get you down. You’re amazing!

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 09:23

Gosh I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Is she still suffering?

This is what worries me. Kids get sniffles all the time.

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 09:23

@NotDonna Thank you for the kind words, they will be very much needed over the upcoming weeks.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/08/2020 09:24

And nephew phleb! I can fully understand why you are particularly concerned.

WhyNotMe40 · 29/08/2020 09:28

Yes -Your poor sister. I hope she is ok x

Ickabog · 29/08/2020 09:33
