You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

The AIBU is going well. If MNHQ move it to the coronavirus board it will kick off!

Saucery · 24/08/2020 16:39

@NeurotrashWarrior

How long do you think it would last in plasticine? Surely it would not be able to survive beyond a few days?
The nearest estimate without testing would probably be the 72 hours they say for plastic in general. Would you be able to put it in individual named boxes? And if help needed to manipulate and form shapes then the adult wears gloves? I know that we are using hand wipes for children who find washing or sanitiser difficult, would that be possible?

I'm hoping it remains there for a while longer yet. Many posters refuse to visit the Corona board, and it's interesting to hear from them.

I think it's doing well @WhyNotMe40, and apologies for highlighting a slight confusion! It can't be as bad as a thread about something minor I started a month again when I used double negatives and got flamed for being so stupid!

People might like to look at the informative posts by @TheDailyCarbuncle on the masks/keeping school safe thread as she knows about why masks can actually increase risk. Will try and post a link.

Am hoping she answers the question I've just asked about 'how come other countries use them then?'

AugustBreeze · 24/08/2020 16:47

Here we are:
Why not masks for all in secondary schools ? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4002677-Why-not-masks-for-all-in-secondary-schools

WhyNotMe40 · 24/08/2020 16:51

I did quite a lot of reading up on the masks thing way back at the beginning.
If I remember correctly certain virus can be caught in masks and actually become more infectious - rhinoviruses I think. However coronavirus is trapped and becomes less infectious as the droplets dry. Or something.

@WhyNotMe40

Hold my beer. Here we go!
I bloody love you lot. We should do this at least weekly.
WhyNotMe40 · 24/08/2020 16:52

Which is why there was all that stuff about masks not helping from pretty much everyone right at the start

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 16:52

It's interesting that people on @WhyNotMe40's thread are defending us against what they assume is her having a go. It makes a nice change!

SaltyAndFresh · 24/08/2020 16:53

The carbuncle's only alternative solution is to practice good hygiene, which might be doable in a primary setting but ... Why do we have to keep spelling the obvious shit out?

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 16:54

Because they are all channelling THAT kid who still doesn't get it on the 24694th explanation

motherrunner · 24/08/2020 16:58

Just had this thought when reading a post on the ‘duty’ thread:

Actually @TheSunIsStillShining in my working terms and conditions there is a stipulation that teachers should not do anything that would bring the school into disrepute’. I wonder whether the government could link ‘moral duty of extra protective measures’ to this?

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 16:59

That occurred to me too. Is it S8 it the annexe? I really should know that!

Agreed. Sorry you're getting some stick for it, but it's refreshing to read comments defending teachers. Shock
phlebasconsidered · 24/08/2020 17:02

Salty- impossible in upper primary too. We have 2 boys loos and 2 girls loos for about 100 students in UKs2 and only one sink in each room. Trust me when I say those loos and sinks are GRIM and the personal hygiene of years 5 and 6 negligible at best. This is the age boys "scratch and sniff" and seem to be mostly made of snot, drool and dirt held together with attitude. Yet they are too old to marshall.

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 17:03

It's in part 2: upholding public trust. I wonder if there are any government standards.

I was hoping for that! I thought if I posted "as a teacher" some would have a go just because... So until I was outed I kept schtum! Grin

I knew it was in there somewhere. So many annexes though 😆
MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 17:04

@WhyNotMe40 must be strange having people tell you to be nice to the poor teachers for a change Grin

Saucery · 24/08/2020 17:10

There are also LEA and Council standards in staff terms and conditions.
Which will not stop me pointing out I got Covid from my workplace as I am already restricting my movements to avoid all transmission contacts apart from poorly-ventilated classroom for 5 hours a day. If it gets to that point then I doubt I’ll give a shit what the LEA say about who I am holding accountable. It will be them, the Govt and SLT for not keeping me safe in the workplace.

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2020 17:12

Make sure you take screenshots to sustain you through the inevitable accusations of work-shy, lefty, namby-pamby moral turpitude when the loonies find it!

CallmeAngelina · 24/08/2020 17:12

So, if it's going to be our fault for passing it on to others in schools, who do we get to blame for giving it to us in the first place?

I nominate one of you lot as patient zero and I’ll blame you for infecting me through the Internet 😆
CallmeAngelina · 24/08/2020 17:15

And it would be amusing to know what 50's view will be. She will hate the fact that state school teachers might be allowed to enjoy themselves (going to Tesco) outside school hours, but then she thinks it's all a load of over-blown nonsense anyway, so why would we not be allowed to do what the hell we want?
Ooh, what a dilemma for her.
