You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Congrats appu.

Sorry to everyone disappointed.

I had no exam classes this year.

Oh and I wish we started on the 7th. We start on the 1st. 2 days inset then kids in.

Shadowboy · 13/08/2020 09:10

The best student Ive had in 14 years god downgraded to a B. They FAILED students despite us never having a fail in 5 years. I’m am horrified at the results.

Appuskidu · 13/08/2020 09:12

Maths was disappointing though-despite getting As in everything for 2 years, A at AS level, 8 in GCSE maths and A in GCSE further maths) -got a B??

Worth an appeal?!

noblegiraffe · 13/08/2020 09:12

Good news for your boy, Appu! 🥂 That must be a relief!

noblegiraffe · 13/08/2020 09:15

I don’t know if you can appeal on an individual prior performance, Appu? I thought it was just mock result for individuals or schools appealing because their cohort looked wrong.

Danglingmod · 13/08/2020 09:16

That sounds wrong, Shadowboy, if you have a history of 100% pass rate...

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2020 09:17

WAAAAAY more of our school's results than 45% have been downgraded.

noble we got spreadhseets from exam boards that showed CAGs and results.

Appuskidu · 13/08/2020 09:18

He’s gone to the school now to speak to them. His school didn’t do mocks-they do AS levels instead and use those for predicted grades. Not sure whether it matters, but maybe worth an ask.
Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2020 09:22

Relieved for you appu!! Yay

In German we had a group of 5 (so Ofqual said they were fine) . An A downgraded to a C.

My film class were judged on a large and lazy 2017 cohort who did a different spec! That is NOT FAIR. 2018, new spec did better than that but had lower prior attainment.

There is no Value Added stuff at all.

It is literally all statistical. We had a strong year 13 years groups and the weaker 2018 and 17 year groups have shafted them. But even those year groups did well against PA.

we have LOADS of students who have gone down by 2 grades.

Appuskidu · 13/08/2020 09:24

Thank you, guys-so relieved Flowers.

Shitty for so many people all round though.

ohthegoats · 13/08/2020 09:26

I'm sure I heard on the news yesterday that no one would receive a grade lower than their AS grade.

MrsHamlet · 13/08/2020 09:28

I think that applies mainly in Wales where they're still coupled. We don't do any AS

noblegiraffe · 13/08/2020 09:29

His school didn’t do mocks-they do AS levels instead

Oh god, that’s one for Ofqual to wrangle over.

starrynight19 · 13/08/2020 09:32

Primary school in Scotland closed due to an outbreak already just on news.

starrynight19 · 13/08/2020 09:34

Ds got his first choice uni though so that’s good news.
Glad your ds did to Appuskidu

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2020 09:37

Oh yeah, I meant 2019 and 2017 (there was no 2018 class in my subject) . So class of 2017's results gave 78% of the weighting. I honesty did think they were looking at patterns, not saying large previous class could have a huge impact.

MrsHamlet · 13/08/2020 09:43

Our A-B in almost all subjects is on the trajectory we expected, but the A and A grades have all but vanished

tadjennyp · 13/08/2020 09:44

Well done appu and starry . Must be a relief. Our three students got what they were predicted, fortunately.

AugustBreeze · 13/08/2020 09:45

@starrynight19 that must be due to community transmission as it's just too soon for it to have spread (and those infected to show symptoms) in school.

Still of note though, particularly as it shows local health authorities acting to close a school rather than just send a bubble home... Off to google it and discover if they've said how many cases in how big a school

Hercwasonaroll · 13/08/2020 09:45

I'm trying to reframe my thinking ready for next Thursday into "if the students had got these results how would I feel?". Complete false dichotomy I know but may help!

AugustBreeze · 13/08/2020 09:48

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/scottish-news/5923897/coronavirus-scotland-peterhead-school-outbreak/amp/

So, closed for today only, at the moment, but for just one case!

starrynight19 · 13/08/2020 09:50

Augustbreeze it was a school in Petershead no details though.

Danglingmod · 13/08/2020 09:50

That is what happened last term. We had four local primaries close for either one or two cases. I'd like to think PHE will be more cautious than the govt (or other home nation equivalent) and it's their call.

DreamingofBrie · 13/08/2020 09:59

Just been in. We self-moderated our grades strictly before submitting them, but nearly 40% of the results have been downgraded.

I'm furious for the students and despondent today.
