You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Sacrificial and total bullshit when they are not part of the 'us' they propose take the bullet. It's like the lord of the manor with a gammy leg pouring forth about the need for sacrifice and service to his working class underlings.

The only sane response would actually be, 'fuck off' or, 'after you'.

DreamingofBrie · 21/07/2020 18:12

Hi everyone, just place marking. I've spent a week on holiday in remote parts of Scotland and it's been brilliant not to worry (too much) about work. Got a lovely email from one of my form who is going elsewhere next year, which cheered me up.

Kitchen poster the one who had a rage about being told a chimp would be easier to teach, recently? I read all 1000 posts yesterday, hope those of you on the thread aren't feeling too affected by it today.

Independent sector so don't think the pay rise will be applied to us. I've got my timetable for next year, 60% Y12 classes so will but get any gained time, which I've been fortunate with this term.

Thanks for the threads. I haven't posted much but I've been really grateful for them.

SionnachRua · 21/07/2020 18:29

Guessing we have far more lurkers than we imagine. I am waving to all. It’s a fucking shitshow. Try and speak out where you can x

Yes, hello - I reckon you do Grin

Shitshow on both sides of the Irish Sea, I think. We've got very little concrete advice here but what we have seems to be piling us back in and hoping for the best. Very few Irish school related threads here (thankfully) but I pitch in to back up the UK ones when I can.

Happy Holidays everyone. I've been in sorting out my new classroom for the last 2 days. Took a while to disinfect all the books! It feels like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic really ...

eitak22 · 21/07/2020 19:25

Our school are still going, children in other years were back yesterday and today which was lovely as got to see them before summer and they loved seeing friends.

Still got an inset tomorrow so no lie in yet but come Thurs I am ready!

Happy Holidays to all of you who are there, remember most parents are grateful for what you have done!

Flagsfiend · 21/07/2020 19:54

On the plus side my classroom has never been so tidy, on the downside I don't get the benefit. We had an everything must go clearout to allow students to stay put and us to move round next year. I found stuff hidden in cupboards from before I started.

CallmeAngelina · 21/07/2020 20:51

"Took a while to disinfect all the books!"
Why did you need to do that? (and how?!) Surely after a couple of days with the room unused, any traces of virus on them will have gone?

Myothercarisalsoshit · 21/07/2020 21:19

I gave them a wipe down with dettol wipes. We were told to wipe stuff down but I've probably gone overboard. They were minging though as I've inherited the horrible classroom that nobody wanted in the year group that have had a lot of supply and the room is shite.

hedgehogger1 · 21/07/2020 23:26

Amazed there are teachers not in unions. On my Pgce our main lecturer was very much telling us we must make sure we are always a member. If for no other reason than to have legal cover if a kid made a false allegation.

ohthegoats · 21/07/2020 23:56

We finished today. As a staff we stood in the playground between 3.15 and 4.15 and drank about 40 bottles of fizz. Ha. I then went on a pub crawl through town, left car abandoned. Got train home.

Mistressiggi · 21/07/2020 23:59

Oh I do like to live vicariously through a good teacher end of term story Grin Hope you don't suffer for it in the morning!

ohthegoats · 22/07/2020 00:05

I'm eating brie and celery and watching Bob Ross painting. All the rock and roll here.

Asuitablecat · 22/07/2020 08:14

Fingers crossed I'm going on my forrin holiday next week. Feel like staying in the house so I don't catch the covid

Boris has played a blinder. My sm is so full of indignation for nurses and pitting public sector workers against each other that no one has even mentioned Russia.

noblegiraffe · 22/07/2020 08:42

Or the vote saying they can sell the NHS off to foreigners.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 08:51

Something in The Times today that will send certain MNers into a frothing frenzy : according to a government scientist (hmmmm) there isn't a single documented case worldwide of a pupil (aged up to 15 natch: who cares if you teach the older ones?!) passing the virus to a teacher.

Should be comforting, but how the jeff does anyone know WHO they caught the virus from. Plus, 100s (1000s?) of teachers went off ill in mid March (me included!) and were never tested. God knows whether they had it, and who they caught it from!

If I did have it, I have three prime suspects : one colleague and two pupils.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 08:56

But what amazes me is that so many nurses don't seem to realise they have had a bigger pay rise ! (or some of them). The public do seem to have bought the 'it's a reward for the pandemic' crap.

Really nasty letter in The Times about our pay rise (from a woman, probably one of our favourite MNers!)

Failing to realise the rise to the 30k start wage and corresponding payrises were put forward pre pandemic in response to the recruitment and retention crisis. Standard!
DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/07/2020 09:48

As per usual we are left hanging in Wales to see if the payrise will apply to us too.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 14:50

Teacher Tapp have started a sister app called Parent Ping. Have signed up.

Hope it's not all MN that joins!

Yesterday's results are interesting. Little appetite for live lessons. Over 50 per cent wanted hard copy materials. I reckon most who have signed up so far have very young children, then.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/07/2020 14:57

Whose getting a 30k start wage?

noblegiraffe · 22/07/2020 15:00

I’ve spent an absolute fortune on paper and printer ink since the start of lockdown, not surprised parents want someone else to pay!

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/07/2020 15:11

Yes I've spent loads of money on printing costs for dd2. It's not a problem for me, because I've only got one child to print for, but it must be a huge expense for families with a few children, especially in such uncertain financial times. I know my nieces have to print things when they're at their dad's because he's still got his job, while my sister has lost hers so the ink is too expensive.

HedyPrism · 22/07/2020 15:23

@TheHoneyBadger

New teachers from 2022/23 I think. Could be further out. It was always on the options paper though. Nothing to do with the pandemic.
namechangedyetagain · 22/07/2020 15:26

NQTs in the year beginning 2022/23 apparently.

Met with my mentor yesterday and not even sure I will get through my PGCE. Have a tricky class coming up and I'm terrified ofy6.
That and dreaming that they asked me to leave on day 2 because I didn't know anything has left me feeling decidedly wobbly about the whole thing today Sad

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 15:57

I am not surprised parents want someone to pay either but schools likewise can't afford all that printing. I don't think secondary resources are so reliant on printing perhaps.
