You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

Some interesting finding here about kids and lockdown :

Appuskidu · 11/06/2020 17:03

So if schools are closing over the summer for key workers, what is the big ‘Cock up’ plan going to consist of?

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 11/06/2020 17:05

Maybe they're closing to keyworkers to allow space for the yet-to-be-announced-shitshow?

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 17:05

They just think we’re lying when we say pretty much. any willing qualified teacher with a pulse is already working.

On the subject front when I did a few months supply I got offered jobs in various subjects in virtually every school I worked at. As they expect you to be shit when they see you can actually teach and do get stuck in and try to teach, whatever the subject and have an appearance of classroom management even as ‘just a supply teacher’ they treat you like gold dust. I turned down good schools because I did not want to be full time.

I agreed to this one because they were willing to let me be part time. I was assured I’d teach ks3 only, would have loads of support and would undertake no substantial planning. All of which was promptly disregarded.

Another thing some people seem unaware of is how many unqualified teachers used to work in school with full timetables and responsibilities but for about 13k

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 17:08

When things like gtp came in they became trainees and got a pay rise whilst training. No brainer

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 17:58

Just realised how old I sound Blush once I was a maiden then I became a mum and now I’m the crone.

motherrunner · 11/06/2020 18:29

Sorry for a derail but have taken a bit of a battering on the ‘when/how the tide has turned against school’ thread.

Was arguing my case why I’m too exhausted to teach over the summer (in a nutshell: live teaching to timetable since start of lockdown, the challenges of having an autistic son at home whilst I do this and then the worry of my mum who requires 24/7 nursing care in a home) and have been told I’m a ‘poor role model’ and there is no sympathy for people who are considering going off sick on tax payer’s money.

Any cake available?

ChloeDecker · 11/06/2020 18:40

They should be ashamed of themselves motherrunner-so much hate.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 11/06/2020 18:43

not that it's any consolation but that horrible post has now been removed motherrunner.

Flowers (real ones, not teachery ones]

i think we should just stop arguing and let them become one tb echo chamber

motherrunner · 11/06/2020 18:50

@ChloeDecker I think that’s what shocked me so much. The obvious hate from one poster. I did hide the thread but before I left I did ask whether if someone else from another profession, who was so obviously struggling, would they be asked what their sickness package would be?

@Bea Has it been removed? Good. I should know to not get sucked in but sometimes I can’t help myself. Thank you for the good quality flowers 😊

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2020 18:55

Oh that poster is vile. And has, in the past, claimed to be a teacher...how interesting.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 11/06/2020 19:00

omg - most PGCE students have already been snapped up. Do they really think that there hundreds of PGCE grads milling around without jobs?

@motherrunner plenty of cake on the table and the toffee vodka is stashed under the sink.

Some people get so wound up that they can't help themselves. It is a downward race to see who can be the most spiteful

I saw that and thought "how disgusting." Anyone who is seriously considering harming themselves as a better option than the status quo is obviously in need or pressure being relieved, kindness, support and understanding. (I once came within spit of turning the steering wheel towards a tree on the way home from work due to severe work-related stress. Two years on anti-depressants followed.)

Some people just lose all humanity when it comes to teachers, it's like they think we exist as robots with no feelings, thought, families...awful people :-(

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 19:07

motherrunner- bless you having so much on your plate. Ban yourself from going on those threads for 48hrs. You’ll likely find yourself feeling so much better that you’ll not bother going back on them.

It’s clearly not clearing up a misunderstanding anymore-everything has been explained patiently and repeatedly. They just don’t give a shit.

Wine Cake Cake pick your favourite or have all three.

motherrunner · 11/06/2020 19:08

@Staff Thank you. I will have a root around, although I do have Yr 12 Period 1 tomorrow so will have to be restrained 😆

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 19:08

OH one of those cakes was meant to be gin.

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2020 19:09

Actually it fits the James O'Brien podcast perfectly. How has someone managed to get private sector workers to turn on public servants , and how on earth (James should have asked but he was too naïve to know about it) has it worked so public sector workers take chunks out of each other??

motherrunner · 11/06/2020 19:13

Thank you all. I’m now crying but happy tears 😊 Thank you for the support.

My son is looking at me with confusion. He sleeps with me so I’m sitting next to him in my bed waiting to him to fall asleep so I can watch some TV that isn’t ‘Horrid Henry’.

I am going to stick to the ‘staff room’ I think for a while. Even the most innocuous threads are turning into a bear pit.

ohthegoats · 11/06/2020 19:16

Piggy - I just tried to post something along the James O'Brien line in that thread.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/06/2020 19:17

Be careful goats. Want you to stick around.

RigaBalsam · 11/06/2020 19:20

I love James OB he says everything I think. I think I said it on a thread way back when it was live. On Monday too he reiterated that parents trust us with their kids lives but yet they hate us. How do they handle tge cognitive dissonance?

James OB is happy Farage is off air. Made me chuckle with his tweets. ' thought and prayers'

Motherrunner BrewCakeCakeGinThanks

Still love his view here. If I wasn't already married.GrinGrin

WhyNotMe40 · 11/06/2020 20:19

@motherrunner possibly a bit late but interestingly one of the worst teacher bashers who claims to be NHS with an NHS consultant husband has apparently gone off sick with stress due to the pressure of having to home educate their own child. and had nothing but sympathy from the other posters.
It's definitely double standards.
