You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

That's an atrocious way to treat school staff. Mine won't be doing in that week.anyway as we have a holiday booked and hope to take it (I teach in England).

They've apparently added a week's holiday to October so now I have to find childcare.

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 13:26

Same hips I'm so sick of wales being different just for the sake of it.

starrynight19 · 03/06/2020 13:28

How can they just change the holiday calendar like that.
What about staff / children if they have summer holidays booked ?

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 13:33

I guess they don't think anyone is going on holiday

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 13:47

Sorry, yes CSE.

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 13:50

I'm going on.holiday. If we're allowed in.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 15:05

I really don't want to go anywhere . Can't bear the thought of the airport, the flights...

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 15:07

I was just in a Google Meet and my teeny tiny cat just brought in a live bird. Bloody Hell, just as well I had my mic off.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 15:10

I need to get to my second home and sort out loads of stuff. I’m really hoping to be allowed to fly in summer but not overly hopeful. Hence why I said I’d volunteer for summer school if I could have six weeks off in autumn instead

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 15:13

Ps second home sounds grand and it’s not. I rent here and own a teeny apartment in a 2nd/3rd world country that doesn’t even have electricity at the minute because the complex had been stealing from the state owned power company. It’s worth less than most people’s cars.

ChloeDecker · 03/06/2020 15:16

Bloody hell Piggy-cats do pick their moments don’t they!? Grin

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 15:21

Yeah, normally she fails to catch a fly so I am sure she was pleased. Thankfully, I opened the front door and the bird flew out.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 15:34

My son tried to bring home a bird wing yesterday.

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 15:49

Neuro Envy

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 16:16

Yep. He delighted in the clump of "feathers all together" and I pointed out there was a bone and tendons sticking out too.

Can I just also ask from who I believe are a bunch of Sensible Types; what's the obsession with sharpies being used by children???

They're permanent and stink to high heaven. I did art at degree level and had a good training in the toxins within what we were using; I wouldn't have them anywhere near a classroom and have rarely allowed my 7yr old to use them. Every single bastard online drawing film bar Rob B uses them?! And my son's after school club let them use loads of them in a confined space; I swear they're not great for young lungs.

Aibu???

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/06/2020 16:16

Half listening to the radio on the way home. by the 29th all schools to be taking all year groups, a third at a time? (so around 560 pupils for my school) Did I mishear that, did the radio report misinterpret something? Been at work all day so radio silence but given the issues 16 kids had social distancing with lines on the floor...

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 16:17

I'm also going to have to rant at school staff who use spray cans indoors when all this is over.

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/06/2020 16:21

@NeurotrashWarrior - sharpies (the proper ones) seem to last longer than any other felt tip schools tend to have and are relatively cheap in comparison??

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 16:29

I don't know what this obsession is with fraction and the authorities.
1/4 or 1/3 means nothing! Schools vary hugely in size!

I suppose at least a third of a school makes sense staffing wise but 1/4 of a year group is a ridiculous variable.

RigaBalsam · 03/06/2020 16:32

Already a thread about the November thing. Hope they don't blame us.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 16:35

Oh jeeze I got sucked in; send help!

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 16:36

In contrast to the sharpies end of the scale in science we get such diluted substances that you can’t observe a reaction with the naked eye so you have to explain what they should have seen rather than have them rely on observable data ironically.

Getting sharpie ink out of shirts is impossible.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 16:36

Maybe I am bu mimi, but I thought they were permanent markers?

Baring in mind I teach sen so definitely no permanent markers ever!

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 16:37

I'd use them for colouring a tee shirt!

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 16:40

High enough concentrations of acid to seeb reactions- no

Strong enough cleaning products to actually clean- no way

Pens that destroy your uniform and possibly damage your airways- bring them on.
