You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Thinking of daffodil and name changes there are quite a few daffodil based names she may have just kept the theme and NC'd that way.

Yep, I thought this.

pfrench · 09/06/2020 10:03

I don't notice posters names on those boards so much. All just a shouty mess.

CallmeAngelina · 09/06/2020 10:03

Oh ffs, there's someone who's started a petition to "get schools opened."

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 10:16

Nooooo.. other Daffodil has been around for ages.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/06/2020 10:39

I didn't become a teacher to be lonely either. When I finished my degree I was offered a desk job doing computer programming, which I think I could have been very good at, but I turned it down because there wasn't going to be enough social interaction for me (it would have been better from a childcare point of view as I could have worked from home regularly). Teaching is so much about building relationships with the kids, as well as obviously the curriculum stuff. I just can't do that over email, the kids don't respond the same way, and it's so difficult to read tone in writing. I have about 5 kids in total who are giving me any indication of what they're thinking about the maths, and only 3 who are in any way chatty in their emails. Most just send me a photo of their work, with no actual communication coming from them at all. It's lonely and boring. The completely worst bits of teaching with none of the best bits (although I'm very glad I don't have to write full reports this year).

I'm so keen to get back to my normal job, but it doesn't look like that will be happening any time soon. I am very concerned about the health and safety of wider opening, but by golly I want to be back in the classroom interacting with kids!!

I have no idea what you are all talking about with other threads as I am now refusing to open any that look as if they are vaguely to do with schools. I'm significantly happier now I've made that decision.

Appuskidu · 09/06/2020 10:46

Sunshine and daffodils as well...

pfrench · 09/06/2020 10:50

someone who's started a petition to "get schools opened."

Yep - and it swerved quickly into NOT what the OP wanted - instead more people had said 'yeah I'd sign one asking to trust scientists over internet bods'. By the time I'd posted on it, it had been moved to Activism.

So, the moderation of that board is completely biased. Really, stop posting on it.

pfrench · 09/06/2020 10:52

So much this, I could have written it. Except we've got to write full reports. I made a schedule for report writing, the schedule began yesterday... I'm already 6 behind. Ha. Definitely the worst part of the job.

WhyNotMe40 · 09/06/2020 10:56

I've stupidly engaged in that thread. What can I say - I'm an idiot.

FrippEnos · 09/06/2020 10:58

The completely worst bits of teaching with none of the best bits (although I'm very glad I don't have to write full reports this year).

We would be starting the NEA this week and last week.

It is absolutely the most fun part of my subject.
The creativity, thought processes and being able to guide pupils through complex problems of their own devising.

Yet the exam boards have not been forth coming as to how much can be done at home or whether they will be putting changes in next year to aid pupils grades.

pfrench · 09/06/2020 11:01

I just suggested they move the 'rise up' thread to activism.

It's a direct call for activism, it doesn't belong in Health or coronavirus.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 09/06/2020 11:04

yes all the school threads in coronavirus have nothing to do with health, Maybe mumsnet just needs to create a whinge section?

OP posts:
pinkrocker · 09/06/2020 11:22

The whole of Mumsnet is a whinge section
Not this space, obviously Grin

Boxachocs · 09/06/2020 11:34

I’m sure others will be along soon to support the OP on the petition thread but for now it’s not going their way! 😂

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 12:07

As predicted the government's volte face appears to be our fault, and the suggestion/barracking of unions.

Happily, my DSM sent me a message and she doesn't see it that way. She sees it as embarrassing for the government.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 12:07

Yes, threads to get people to fill in petitions are normally moved pronto! Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 12:12

It is interesting what threads in CV aren't clickbait : the one gathering info about schools in Europe is dead , as is asthmatic teachers, as is another more appeasing one.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 12:36

True to form, Anne Longfield is aerated about this. She is like a one woman juggernaut set on ignoring scientists, teachers, government, everyone.

However, she does make the valid pint that it's high time the government actually prioritised providing some actual, financed solutions to schools when compared with the amount of money and time spent on economic solutions.

“I am worried that education has not had the priority that the economy has, business and jobs, or indeed the NHS.

CallmeAngelina · 09/06/2020 12:44

Oh God - ventured into "tide-turning" thread. That's a right toxic pond.

pooiepooie25 · 09/06/2020 12:45

Ugh - I keep getting drawn back to those threads. I don't get how people are so fucking thick and blames schools for everything. And that poster Nihil- OMG seriously. Every thread about schools they pop up.
I need to keep away

pfrench · 09/06/2020 12:56

It's right though - sort schools out and the rest will follow. People can't go to work without their children in school or nursery. Should have been the first thing - could have been going it since beginning of May. Getting year 6 (or 4 or 8 in middle school systems) back, slowly increasing numbers. Checking R ratings, careful track of cases, PPE allowed and offered for free (or even expected), if teachers wanted - and reporting that every day at the briefing. NO NEW CASES IN SCHOOLS TODAY - ADULTS OR KIDS.

All children of parents who both need to work (at home too) as the next round of kids in (so varying the ages). Same deal. Same announcements.

By the beginning of June we'd have known if there was an impact. No impact, then each week another year group.

All still voluntary.

But there you go. They are bumblers and fools.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 12:57

That poster is an anti dementor : it's their mission.

namechangedyetagain · 09/06/2020 12:57

After this morning's announcement I'm seriously considering deferring my PGCE. I just don't know what to do. I feel it's kind of a now or never thing but how the heck can I manage my timetable with 3 children in different school years.

But I have a feeling if I don't do it now I never will....

pfrench · 09/06/2020 12:58

Someone else on AIBU is worrying about zoos. There have been quite a few zoo threads over the last few weeks. I've never taken my child to a zoo - that's animals in cages - are they a stallwart of pre-school child occupying or something?

This is my phase's parent facebook page:
