You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

The weeping and wailing about how children have been failed, thrown under the bus etc but no comment about how all children could be accommodated in school.

CarrieBlue · 09/06/2020 08:10

It’s absolutely poisonous over there this morning. I’m fairly close to weeping to be honest.

thatone · 09/06/2020 08:11

It has definitely ramped up even more on the main board, there is now talk of a protest march. I have a lot of sympathy for working parents who are struggling for childcare and have their job on the line. But the constant refrain that children are at minimal risk is getting very annoying. There seems to he utter and callous disregard for the lives of the staff.

thatone · 09/06/2020 08:13

I do worry about the level of entitlement and what that suggests about future generations.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/06/2020 08:13

Zoombinis is retro mind you, I think it was first created in 1997!

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/06/2020 08:14

I'm not entirely sure if a 5 year old could do it though, my 7 yr old can. But give it a go!

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 08:14

They are often the same people who don't want SD flaming so that is their answer.

Without an extensive search, I do wonder if these are fit as a fiddle type who also blame fat people for being fat and ill. Never been ill themselves and think they are perfect.

The private school thread annoys me because this discussion of the sectors is so divisive and so inaccurate. It simply is no true that all private school are offering al day lessons. We all also know that this still does not replace in classroom teaching. If it is all so amazing, why do I keep reading of private schools closing their doors due to losing pupils on roll?

We are viewed as wage salves, pure and simple.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 08:16

I think p is right : mnhq needs to very swiftly move those threads into education. Education is a low footfall area.

There is one thread about school and asthma there with hardly any posts.

minisoksmakehardwork · 09/06/2020 08:38

Out of interest I have just googled the local private school. Outside of their provision for home learning, they have this week taken back kindergarten, reception and year 1 pupils. They appear to be following the same guidance as state schools. The only difference I can see so far is that 'where helpful' they are permitting pupils to bring in items from home and every night they state they are deploying a virucidal fogger in the areas which are being used by the bubbles. I don't know of any other school in our area which has said they are using those.

I have a friend whose husband works at this school and whose daughter now attends after their village school failed to provide adequate support for their daughter's needs - my children used to attend this school and categorically if your face did not fit, then you were dismissed as neurotic. Our son got his ADHD diagnosis because of our drive to get him the help he needs and the current school spotted his issues on day one.

Danglingmod · 09/06/2020 08:40

So 4 primary schools in my (small) city closer either in full or to one bubble yesterday after either a staff member, pupil or parent tested positive. The comment on the local news website was very much 50:50 between "don't care, stay open, my child needs an education" and "that's why mine aren't going back" (with a LOT of very supportive comments about individual schools and HTs) So the general public is definitely more split and also supportive.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 08:49

I cannot help but imagine the episode of Yes Prime Minister centring around Boris announcing al years would be back in primary school before the summer:

Aide : 'But Boris, why did you say that?'
BJ ; 'oh people need good news. This will distract them,'
Aide: 'but Boris, state schools won't have room for this what with Michael reducing classroom sizes, increasing class sizes and selling off playing fields. And basic maths.'
BJ : 'what? Why can't they use their rugger fields for some vigorous outdoor fun?'
Aide; ' Look, Boris, this simply won't work in an average school.'
Gav ; ' please, Boris, what will I say to all the parents and businesses, my wife, and Mumsnet?'
BJ' 'ah... bugger... just tell them we are following the science'
Gav and aide ' but we ignored SAGE about schools...'
BJ : ' ah. Bugger. Well just untell them. They won't remember. I am sure they all love being home with their kiddies. And anyway, all schools break up on July 1st, don't they? Mention holibobs. Airbridges. Pubs! That'll work'
(Michael pops up) 'or we can blame the unions and the Blob...' sinister silence...'nudge theory...'
Dominic : 'and I can bugger off to St Tropez again to distract them?'

SallyLovesCheese · 09/06/2020 08:52

Daffodil has NC? Amphibiously? Very possibly, Piggy.

I went on a thread in the C board but didn't post because I'm fed up of writing the same thing. Someone asking what primary teachers are doing all day. FFS.

I'm in today, in my little office bubble for one. Another lonely day. This is not why I became a teacher. I used to like days in the holidays in my classroom without the children, sorting things out. Now I'd give anything to be back doing my normal job.

But, you know, our friends over on the C board just think I'm a lazy teacher who needs a pay cut.

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 08:53

Remember that's just the anti dementors spreading from thread to thread behaving like - oh wait! - dementors...

Piggywaspushed · 09/06/2020 08:54

I didn't become a teacher to be lonely either Sad. Or to argue with DH and DS1 about who gets the dining room table.

Off to teach impossible subject now...

tadjennyp · 09/06/2020 08:54

You should become a script writer, piggy ! I am a bit gutted for ds9 who was hoping to go back to school. It only took him 9 weeks to get to that stage. Maybe I will have to get him in on a key workers place if my new school wants me in.

pooiepooie25 · 09/06/2020 09:07

I wonder how many of those wanting to protest are the same people kicking off about the BLM protests. I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

Mistressiggi · 09/06/2020 09:13

I like to start my day with a coffee and some mumsnetting, have now realised this is the source of my bad moods!
As well as the blatant bashers I'm noticing an increase in the "cool teacher" who is happy to criticise the provision of other teachers. It would not be impossible for me to make comparisons between what I'm doing and what some of my dc's teachers are doing with regard to marking and setting work. But I have a bit of solidarity and know the situation and pressures of each individual will vary.
It's hard really to imagine there are as many crap schools out there as are experienced by some mumsnetters. And then you read someone who criticised the approach saying how they weren't getting their dc to try to work anyway. Pah.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/06/2020 09:15

So 4 primary schools in my (small) city closer either in full or to one bubble yesterday after either a staff member, pupil or parent tested positive.

This is why it's not going to work beyond part time Ed longer term. 'They' don't seem to get it.

It's a logistical issue.

Cantaloupeisland · 09/06/2020 09:18

Just had a scan down the C board, every bloody thread about schools! Some of these consistently negative posters could really do with some of that 'can do' attitude that they're constantly complaining schools don't have...

Appuskidu · 09/06/2020 09:21

I shall be interested to see the results of their plans to test 200,00 children and school staff to monitor how transmission works.

I suspect that no matter what the results are, they’ll interpret ‘the science’ to mean schools are fine to all go back in September Grin

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 09/06/2020 09:31

Right, I'm done, if anyone sees me over on CV or AIBU, please give me a socially distanced slap.

It's beyond repetitive now.

I'm sticking to staffroom. Wonder if the rumoured 1pm announcement will appear and how cross it will make me. Definitely need to not look on CV after 1pm if it's true.

pfrench · 09/06/2020 09:33

Woohoooo.. it's going OFF today!! Alleged SLT getting involved slagging off other schools now too. What I know, is that NO leaders from other schools are slagging each other off. No one has the energy!!

I had an argument with a journalist on Twitter at 7,30 this morning - way to start your day right! Alright from them furiously pecking away at their phone, safe on their sofa.

Meanwhile in the real world, I had a lovely, lovely collective message from my class parents saying they love the stuff I/we are doing online, that the children are missing us and blah blah. Was so nice.

FrippEnos · 09/06/2020 09:36

Thinking of Daffodil and name changes there are quite a few Daffodil based names she may have just kept the theme and NC'd that way.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 09/06/2020 09:39

I'd love it if there was a march about education in the UK - about any aspect of it. The fact that some of those people are actually engaging in it, what it is, what it does, how schools are vital in communities... not just using it as a free thing that they can slag off all over the place.

Make sure that all the M&S Simply Foods have plenty of hummous and breadsticks in stock for protest snacks, and go for it...
