You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Here's one for you - I just looked at 7 day rolling death rates - was trying to see if there is an uptick in the UK. I get that it might be all based in hospitals and care homes now, but still - interested.

Check out Denmark. Still only a tiny number, but check it out.

If the one to follow is Denmark, then erk...

No You Just Fucking Google it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 20:10

Hmm, they said their R had gone up. I suppose it's how well they can maintain it at a manageable rate.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 20:11

Grin piggy! One to remember!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2020 20:12

News is out in Wales then.

No bubbles. 2m distances. Rota basis for children in all yeargroups, not just some year groups. Possibly with a day somewhere in the mix for PPA/deep cleaning.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 20:13

It all sounds very (over) complicated Madeline...

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 20:14

Would also want to know if that opens up teachers to a hell of a lot of interactions...

pussycatinboots · 03/06/2020 20:18

Piggy I've just got DH with that one...he tried to guess and gave up Grin
Guess how I found out... IJFGI Grin

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 20:37

Lol

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2020 20:40

It will open us up to a lot of interactions. My whole class will be in, just one day a week each on a rolling rota. Which helps parents not one bit in terms of getting back to work.
And is being established now as that's how they foresee us working in the Autumn term. With some additional weeks of non contact for the pupils too as the online learning will still need to be facilitated on the days they aren't there.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2020 20:44

The question was raised at the NAHT's webinar tonight about staff (there must be lots) who have holidays booked for the beginning of the school holidays.

The answer was, that if the member of staff found themselves in a position to actually take the holiday they have booked (like mine, where it's a uk break in England and they are hoping to open on 4th July) that the member of staff will not be expected to cancel that holiday and come into work.

That's going to go down well!

MossWalk · 03/06/2020 20:46

That's about as useful as a fart in a spacesuit.

Christ almighty.

Last in-school day of the week for me tomorrow. I could get used to the PPA at home anyway.

Appuskidu · 03/06/2020 20:48

I just don’t know why I bother replying on those teacher hating posts any more-why do I do it to myself?!

I’m not lying about the teachers we have who can’t come back!!Angry

How is everyone doing over here?

We are seeing a huge increase in KW children coming back in this week, but hardly any YR or Y1 parents want to send their children back!

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 20:51

Your whole class? No SD??

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2020 20:51

Oh, I think I misunderstood..

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 21:06

I really don't know how the fuck I'm going to manage this if it continues through September and I'm in.work.every day and the dc aren't.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2020 21:15

Ah Z for Zachariah, and going to watch an Am-Dram version of Macbeth, and Macduff’s manhood had a mind of it’s own in his tights. The girls and one of the boys were captivated! Grin
Sorry I’m only on page 8 I shall be up to speed soon.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/06/2020 21:30

Right I’m up to speed now and still none the wiser as to what on Earth is going on! One day report writing, away from the news and it all seems to have changed again. I’m going back to my happy memories of MacDuff!

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/06/2020 21:50

My sons school are not taking R, not sure about y1. We find out at end of week if he's got a place; I'm not holding much hope as I think staff have identified children they want to connect with re learning and other areas, plus more KW and any other challenging circumstances. They can accommodate just under a third of the school.

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 22:44

What will you do.for childcare Neuro? My primary is adamant: 2 kw parents, even if the other physically can't wfh

AppleKatie · 03/06/2020 22:58

I’m breathing a sigh of relief tonight. For the first time ever I’m grateful for the ‘sidelining’ of option subjects and my SLT have decided my subject won’t be on the year 10/12 rota from the 15th so I can continue with remote learning and keeping my own DC educated and at home.
I’m sorry for those of you and those of my colleagues in core subjects that aren’t as lucky.

If we leave aside the safety implications for everyone for a moment... The plans for secondary are so bizarre in terms of what educational benefit they offer - it’s a PR exercise at best.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/06/2020 07:09

Asuitable I'm currently wfh as I have moderately bad asthma. I'm very part time at the moment. I'm not clear if the school are letting more kw in; it was also only if two parents were Kw and there are a high number of nhs staff round here.

Wfh is hard though as the kids are young and Dh is still working full time. We weighed it all up and I checked with the Gp re him going back and we felt at the time we would let the school / lea make the decisions if that makes sense? Our area are taking control themselves as numbers are high. I very much doubt he will get a place though which I'm fine with; I feel other children need priority. For example, one of his friends' father had a major depressive episode just at the start of all this and had to live elsewhere. His poor mother has had to wfh with two young children and the stress of all that. Not sending the youngest to nursery yet.

If the clinically vulnerable rules change I will need a kw place. I'm starting to wonder if that will happen in sept though it's the winter my asthma really starts to struggle and viruses seem to affect me more.
