You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

I know we're not supposed to talk about other threads but I'm quite enjoying Biscuit's holiday thread. Not sure it's quite as they planned?

DreamingofBrie · 14/05/2020 16:41

I note how much cleaning teachers ate going to do in that school, including toilets...

It got me thinking about how in Japan, pupils clean their own schools:

It would be great if we could implement that in normal times!

ineedaholidaynow · 14/05/2020 16:43

What happens to the children in the class when the teacher goes and cleans the toilets?

RigaBalsam · 14/05/2020 16:44

Agree regarding cream cracker. I think most parents just want their kids to have some fun again.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 16:45

Where does it say what they're doing there Riga?

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2020 16:47

I won't clean during to me (many times!) aforementioned allergies!!

No

No

No
No

Sorry to disappoint Biscuit and co that I am not playing my part which appears to be the new slogan according to the papers!!

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 16:49

Ah spotted it what a difficult to read website I admire her honesty. Interesting that so few parents will be sending their children in.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/05/2020 16:50

@NeurotrashWarrior you need to click on the 'read more' bit and it will show you the newsletter for parents

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 16:50

Radio 4 now, revisiting the school that was interviewed a week or two ago. Sir dan?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 16:52

He's basically just said it's childcare and so all kids will be in. No uniform.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 16:57

Yea gods he's a master of spin!

Is the government guidance adequate?

"It's a good start..."

EducatingArti · 14/05/2020 16:58

Well they can't have all the year groups in full time because there won't be enough staff and rooms/ space.

EducatingArti · 14/05/2020 17:00

Has anyone suggested the MN Republic 2 days in, deep clean, other half of groups 2 days in, to anyone in unions etc. It is the most practical idea for Primary schools I have heard.

Appuskidu · 14/05/2020 17:03

I think what they’re suggesting is, if you’re struggling to have N/R/1/6 in due to lack of space, you can’t arse around on part time rotas, you choose your youngest year group and bring just those back full time, so those parents can work. Sounds like there will be ANOTHER DfE update later.

CallmeAngelina · 14/05/2020 17:05

So the teachers at that school have to go in and clean the toilets after every single use?! Shock
No. Way.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 17:07

Briefing is very interesting today. Emphasising that the June date is only data dependent.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 17:09

Groups of 15 is crazy. I taught 19 once; obviously if a couple of children were absent it wasn't far off that. It was still a busy classroom; I just got through readers better.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/05/2020 17:17

Hmm I'm not sure how many teachers will be keen on the toilet cleaning aspect, but perhaps they're a small school? Small schools are really going to struggle.

phlebasconsidered · 14/05/2020 17:25

They can cock off if they think i'm cleaning the pissy toilets. It's gross enough cleaning my own room at the end of every day because otherwise the overstretched cleaners just give it a wipe and a wink.

AppleKatie · 14/05/2020 17:32

Cleaning the toilets? What fresh hell is this? Is that a good idea for infection control purposes if nothing else.

Now not only are we sprinting between rooms because the children can’t move we’re cleaning the loos in between??

MossWalk · 14/05/2020 17:46

WTF?

I've just looked up the burgundy book because I'm sure we cannot be told to clean toilets. It's not specifically there BUT

  1. cataloguing, preparing, issuing and maintaining materials and equipment and stocktaking the same

should cover this?

You know what will happen though- 'teachers are too good to clean toilets' will be the latest thing.

Note that no one is addressing our loo breaks or breaks at all.

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2020 17:48

Nothing once more in briefing suggesting year 10 and 12 back.

mumsneedwine · 14/05/2020 17:54

Just filled in the survey from my union. Only joined so had protection if an experiment went wrong. Tried a mask yesterday - glasses fogged up so couldn't see a thing.

pinkrocker · 14/05/2020 17:55

@RigaBalsam that's my LA!!

RigaBalsam · 14/05/2020 17:57

@RigaBalsam that's my LA!!

Not too far from me then with our predicted hight R rate.Sad
