Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

#teachermentalhealth.

All these threads about get the schools back were seriously impacting on me. I'm stressed enough without reading nastiness.

As I've said before, if you substituted the word 'black' for teacher (or any other group of individuals) there would be an outcry about racism, prejudice, etc - and yet it appears ok to make bigoted remarks about an entire group of people on Mumsnet if they are teachers.

NO ONE would think it ok to state all black people are lazy or all gay people need to get back to work and start pulling their weight. The trouble with them is they don't want to do their job properly.

Why is ok to say it about teachers?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 18:06

I’ve just chucked the car amongst the pigeons on another thread.

The government is giving laptops to students and has set up the National Oak Academy to support online learning. I thought ld just put it out there.

So sick of them all.

RigaBalsam · 19/04/2020 18:10

I am sick of them too. Someone in another thread interpreted that briefing as we we were going back soon.Confused. I think they mixed up the term vulnerable though.

bettybattenburg · 19/04/2020 18:16

Oh but I thought I would get a guard of honour!

I love your optimism Grin

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 18:20

@BlessYourCottonSocks - that is why we having this call to arms - boycott entirely or flowers. A lot of these threads are not conducive if it becomes yet another debate about our pay and conditions. Any reference to the Burgundy book may as well be written in hieroglyphics for all the impact it has. The GFs know what they are doing but don't care

@RigaBalsam - yep mixed up the term vulnerable and there is little understanding of what is meant by safeguarding. Golly gosh if we did some of the things being suggested and something went wrong you could imagine the uproar

Clearly they have never had to teach 30 children. Some of the ideas are comical.

LolaSmiles · 19/04/2020 18:27

When you consider some people on here tell posters with safeguarding concerns about a child go approach the child's parents directly to see if they can help the parents and / or offer to have the child move in with them rather than speaking to social services or the school, I'm hardly surprised at what comes up regarding safeguarding during Coronavirus.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 18:43

Some of their ideas are comical.

Yeah too right. Like a class washing their hands after break.

I work in a huge secondary. No sinks in rooms very few toilets.

I’d like to see 1800 kids and 300 staff all wash their hands after break🙄

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 18:43

Yes , well that specific poster is a little of a know it all on most threads...

I do like the idea of a car amongst pigeonsGrin

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 18:47

Ha ha! Yes. A car would be good.

I think we both know which poster!

ChloeDecker · 19/04/2020 18:51

The government is giving laptops to students and has set up the National Oak Academy to support online learning. I thought ld just put it out there.

But they never read beyond the headline, do they? The laptops are for Year 10 only, according to the BBC Hmm

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 18:57

Not according to the Guardian

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 19/04/2020 19:06

Ah the mystery of the flowers is resolved!! Great idea!

I stepped away from here for a while yesterday as I was getting really cross!! - how can we use our teacher voices on here?

Clearly some posters would be on WTE for listening and understanding skills.

If they are so keen for us to mark their children's work we could start with their posts?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/04/2020 19:17

I’d like to see 1800 kids and 300 staff all wash their hands after break

If 1800 kids and 300 staff need to wash their hands for 20s each, while keeping 2m away from each other it’ll be about time to wash hands for lunch by the time they’ve finished.

And what happens when a child who’s already washed their hands puts their hand up to ask to go to the loo. Imagine the AIBU thread.

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 19:22

There's a new one in active...

RafaIsTheKingOfClay

We all know that the thread will contain

"how dare the teacher question my child's ability to wash their hands"

shopaholic85 · 19/04/2020 19:32

Thanks @Piggywaspushed. I've posted a flower and reported. I don't normally report, but will report every anti-teacher thread and post from now on.
I was about to leave MN until I saw this thread #solidarity

pinkrocker · 19/04/2020 19:33

@Piggywaspushed which one? I'll go lay my bouquet

mynameisMrG · 19/04/2020 19:49

I’m so pleased I found this thread. It has really been getting me down recently. I know mn has always had its fair share of teacher haters but it’s so toxic right now. Definitely getting involved with the flowers!

greathat · 19/04/2020 19:50

I've been having to block them as they are seriously messing with my mental health. I'm particularly missing my year 11 and 13 :( feels like they were just thrown away
