Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Thank you ! Star

I’m avoiding them too. Sometimes it’s quite fun to wind them up though🙈😁,

So many entitled parents, it’s just unreal

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 13:09

I feel safe to say this on this thread.

I miss my classes and colleagues, my year 9 daughter is fed up and wants to back.

But l am terrified. Is anyone else?

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 13:12

Yes, and I think on those other threads thosd who arent are working from home , and can continue to do so, work in solitary jobs or work in jobs where they have already been exposed to risk and do are quite callous towards others.

The media are winding everyone up.
ThanksThanks

ChloeDecker · 19/04/2020 13:21

Really really want to go back too (but not in the same conditions as we had before 20th March) as I too miss the routine, lessons, interaction etc. When I get an email from a student it makes me miss then even more and I’ve been so proud of them.
It’s a shame that primary thread is bringing out more and more unkind posts.

noblegiraffe · 19/04/2020 13:27

The class I miss the most (a bonkers Y11) won’t be going back. I’m gutted I didn’t get chance to say a proper goodbye to them.

The last week before we closed was fucking awful. Sending out kids who coughed or looked peaky. Majorly stressed kids and staff. Progressively fewer in over the week. An obsession with hand sanitiser. Despair at the filthy school.

I’ve got an Apple Watch and my heart rate for that last week was ridiculous. It dropped dramatically after closure.

Mental health will be a worry when we reopen as well as the concern about physical health.

pinkblanchmange · 19/04/2020 13:30

I'd love to know how kids that come by public transport are supposed to social distance, that's before they even get to school. My school is close to a train station and a lot come by rail and bus.

Absolutely. All mine go in via public transport! There are hordes of them

Asuitablecat · 19/04/2020 13:43

noble that's interest ing. I noticed mine was way up- esp when talking about cv. A few of us were quite breathless too, which we suspected was stress induced. I could breathe when we finished.

FrippEnos · 19/04/2020 13:47

I miss my classes, I was lucky in that I was able to say good bye to my year 11s and be very proud of the way that they (and the other years) held themselves together.

As for blood pressure, I was on a blood pressure diary for the week. Some of the results were far too high

I’m work in the NHS and am in a vulnerable group, possibly/probably high risk. I can’t get my head around the mindset that thinks just because I have to other people should be expected to put themselves at greater risk too.

FrippEnos · 19/04/2020 14:06

RafaIsTheKingOfClay

The really funny thing is that a lot of people are saying that because x is doing it, y should do it, whilst being in z group which is nowhere near it.

I really hope that makes sense. :)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/04/2020 14:10

It makes sense. I’ve seen the same thing.

I’m with you OP! I really can’t take anymore of it and I think I’m going to leave Mumsnet altogether. I can’t just keep trying to ignore all of the many many threads about schools/teachers. I’m a secondary joint curriculum leader and dh is a primary deputy head, we also have a 7&4 year old at home. We are trying our best. This afternoon I’ve got a Skype meeting planned with the other curriculum leader so we can discuss plans for the coming week, but those that seek to vilify us won’t care about that. I’ve had enough.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/04/2020 14:42

I get little emails occasionally from 11 and 13.

Something like

‘Miss you miss. Thanks for being my teacher and helping me etc etc

They make me cry😥

cheesecurdsandgravy · 19/04/2020 15:20

I had a lovely email last week from one of my Y11 students that is still making me well up when I think of it @emoji.

It would appear that people are now extrapolating their schools arguments upwards to HE. If you want to send flowers to our colleagues...

I had a few lovely emails to... and then I remembered they know I am due to predict their grades!! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 15:33

TOO!!! Aaargh!

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 15:37

Just seen the HE thread : the key to spotting a GF is always not really playing its part in the second OP post, usually.

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 15:58

@Ladyglitterfairydust - I hear you and that's why the teaching need to make a stand. No point hanging around on these threads if we are being used as punchbags. Lots of posters have missed #bekind movement
