Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

@phlebasconsidered - yes it has been stresssful prepping lessons in a new format and tweaking resources. I hope the positivity of this thread continues

I’m in! Flowers

noblegiraffe · 19/04/2020 01:40

The OP of that primary thread seemed quite reasonable, it’s a shame the bellends descended.

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 01:46

@JimmyGrimble - you are most welcome

@noblegiraffe - well once a thread starts to turn that is when we as a staff assiciation need to disengage and use of symbol of challenge Flowers

Just noticed two more threads on teachers giving too much work!!

Fuck, we really can't win.

ChloeDecker · 19/04/2020 09:08

The OP of that primary thread seemed quite reasonable, it’s a shame the bellends descended.

I dunno. The OP seemed reasonable to start with then puts in unreasonable comments by stealth and ruining it, such as I still think the teachers should be doing a bit more and at least be marking

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 09:44

@Saoirse7 - precisely! Lots of repetitive threads that descend into teacher bashing. Remember Flowers and report - after all @FlissMumsnet said she would help

I have been ondering teacher stress.

Teavher Tapp says classroom teachers are less stressed over the last few weeks (combination of holidays ; no behaviour issues; no meeitngs; no commute ; no SLT in the building etc) but SLT are more stresse.

Teaching is routinely rated in the top three of stressful professions.

If/when we return, this will rocket : new ways of working, responsibility for the health of ourselves and children, high absence and , if still in lockdown ,not being able to go to the cinema, theatre, golfcourse, pub to unwind.

My DH is vulnerable, but he is also a high stress person so is majorly stressed by lockdown because of claustrophobia , boredom and complete ICT ineptitude. I cannot begin to imagine how stressful he will find a return to work, given his health, his concerns about teaching and then being told he has to go straight home and not to the driving range...

The lack of feeling for teachers as human beings is depressing. We are not an emergency service and yet are lumped in that group when it suits as an occupation that should accept danger and risk (in fact, teaching is a low risk profession in the sense of risk to that kind of health) without the hero badge....

Hey ho. Another day, more threads to hide or flower bomb!

Not done it yet on the schools will go back thread because haven't seen much teacher bashing yet. Plus it is moving too fast!!

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 09:52

pondering

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 10:02

@Piggywaspushed - yes Flowers or block. Do not feed these threads which attach our mental health and/or profession. Not all of our teaching colleagues have seen our staff association call to arms yet but hopefully they will!

Hold firm comrades !

As a teacher married to a teacher nothing winds me up like the narrative of “lazy teachers, always on holiday”. No one could do their jobs without having first been taught, and yet we experience abuse like no other profession.

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 10:08

@AllTheWhoresOfMalta - welcome to our campaign! Your support is most welcome

Oh, maybe Matt Hancock will tell Gav to make us a badge!! Because that's how to protect careworkers!

What should be on it?

LolaSmiles · 19/04/2020 10:11

There's been some really genuine parents asking questions about provision on here and every time the moan-about-teachers brigade show up with the same old crap.

I'm starting to decide that whether it's worth replying in good faith depends on whether the words "but what are teachers actually doing?!" or sentiments to that effect appear in the OP.

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 10:18

@Piggywaspushed - Respect

@LolaSmiles - yes there are genuine questions but the minute the thread turns we need to abandon it. Any threads about what are teachers do or have references to our terms and conditions or state we must be furloughed with immediate effect then block/flowers/ignore

LolaSmiles · 19/04/2020 10:39

I agree.

The thing that concerns me is that there's some really concerning dismissal of safeguarding on some threads and attempts to point it out seems to result in being told that because some schools do X then it can't be safeguarding. There's some terrible advice and opinions regarding safeguarding on Mumsnet at the best of times.

God no, do you want to be booed in the street?

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 11:50

Oh but I thought I would get a guard of honour!

Difficultcustomer · 19/04/2020 11:51

Thank you for everything you are doing to allow key and essential workers to continue going to work. Also doesn’t affect me but thanks for maintaining face to face education for vulnerable children and work for the rest.
