Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

I hid the whole Coronavirus topic pink. That got rid of the worst of everything. I think AIBU might be next.

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 16:20

AIBU is a good one to hide, I do that occasionally to save my sanity though I think it's a lost cause

Anybody else missing the collective children? I was told (by somebody who doesn't work in a school) that missing them meant you had an inappropriate attachment to them.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 18/04/2020 16:28

Yesssss I have been hiding threads without opening them more and more this week. I’ve bitten twice though Blush
Flowers would be much better, I should employ them. But then I will end up with the hateful threads in my inbox and when you’re awake at 3am with an insomniac toddler that’s realllllly unhealthy...

pinkrocker · 18/04/2020 16:37

Lordy yes @bettybattenbug ! Miss them dreadfully. I'm in school next week on the rota and I am so looking forward to it. I miss the cheeky ones, the quiet ones, the wind-up ones and I am seriously worried I'll lose my teacher voice if I don't practice on my own kids haha.
I had an extremely strong attachment to my old KS1 class, that when I left (due to illness) I was really depressed. I've since kept more of myself back.
Right now I'm loving seeing what they're up to on GC, they've been sending me photos of their baking and cooking.

FrippEnos · 18/04/2020 19:28

Nope can't do it, just going to have to hide the threads.

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 19:42

I think that's very wise Fripp

IHateCoronavirus · 18/04/2020 19:56

Thanks for starting this thread. I too have been finding the other threads increasingly difficult and will try to step away. Solidarity colleagues BrewCake

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 20:10

@IHateCoronavirus - solidarity All ! Let's stamp out these hate threads and stand up for our profession!

I’m with ParsnipToast. I’m support staff (own kids in secondary) and I’ve never had so many teaching staff crying, or on the brink of tears, stressed out of their minds while rewriting the whole curriculum and creating resources at high speed for distance/online teaching. None of the primary or secondary teachers are trained experienced online teachers. They are learning new software, new tools, guidance and pastoral care issues for children are massive due to no school, exams cancelled and on and on. Many of them are providing keyworker care and trying to manage their own children and families while doing this. Not to mention how many of them really really miss the children. It’s horrendous.

Teachers are damned for what they do and damned for what they don’t, this is not new, but the current situation is creating a specific issue that everyone has an opinion on at the same time.

Sending support to all of you.

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 20:43

@2ndStar - thank you for your support. You are right this is not new and as a staff body we do need to start calling out the threads that are teacher bashing

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 21:16

That's a really odd thread. Intentional?

mnahmnah · 18/04/2020 21:20

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 18/04/2020 21:21

Message from MNHQ: We have removed this thread as there are many other threads similar should anyone wish to post there but we would ask for compassion and understanding please.
Everyone is having a difficult time right now and teachers are people too!

I really appreciate reading that.

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 21:23

Well done to OP as well for being our shop steward!

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 21:25

Oh, and scorpionqueen who first suggested the flower protest!

Was it Latvia that had the flower revolution?

TubereuseNordlys · 18/04/2020 21:25

Flowers are much prettier than ugly words, aren't they? Smile

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 21:26

Portugal. As you were.

Drogonssmile · 18/04/2020 21:31

Not a teacher but this thread popped up in active and I just wanted to gatecrash to say I think you're all doing an amazing job. I'm an NHS worker and without my son's school and nursery staff caring for and about them I'd be unable to go to work. I'm in awe of them and all of you. So thank you from me Thanks

Drogonssmile · 18/04/2020 21:32

Sons' Blush sorry Grin

Piggywaspushed · 18/04/2020 21:32

Thank you from us too Daffodil Halo

audweb · 18/04/2020 21:35

Not a teacher but totally appreciate the teachers at my daughters school uploading sensible helpful learning every week and also looking after kids at school currently (and throughout the Easter holidays). Sorry to hear the appreciation isn’t felt throughout Mumsnet. No one has it easy at the minute.
