Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

My reply just got eaten due to phone not coping with mn. Shorthand-there are some very neurotic parents who don’t comprehend that secondary students are usually in classes of 30+ with one teacher and no you don’t need 6hrs a day of work when doing one to one learning. Also I’m sorry if this offends teachers, I’m one myself, they actually don’t learn that much in 2 weeks of 30:1 teaching with cramped conditions and behaviour issues and movement time etc.

I have a 13 year old and all we’ve done so far in terms of ‘school proper’ is read and discuss a gcse text. A lot of people really need to chill and remember they chose to have kids

SavoyCabbage · 18/04/2020 14:14

Maybe The Staffroom should not be in Active like Off The Beaten Track.

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 14:20

Or like the SEN threads where you have to opt in - I think. Maybe I made that up.

Mistressiggi · 18/04/2020 14:47

It is a shame that parents with a genuine question are less likely to get a teacher answering as the threads have become akin to volunteering yourself as a punchbag.
I have no idea what would happen on a bashing thread if no teachers at all replied, would be quite interesting to see.

bettybattenburg · 18/04/2020 14:50

It'll be because they are being lazy of course......

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 14:54

Maybe we should all just hide in the Staffroom but you get entry you need a valid school ID? Now that would be good.

CostaRicaCoffee · 18/04/2020 14:57

I haven't been on the threads mentioned but there are a couple of thread topics that are guaranteed to wind me up so i hide them if i see them. You could do that if any appear on staffroom too. That way they wouldn't get the rise out of you they are seeking.

Appuskidu · 18/04/2020 14:59

@Everyexitisanentrance that is such a good idea!

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 15:00

@Mistressiggi. - I think we just have to be strong and not respond to threads that descend into a witch-hunt and anything that says this is not teacher bashing but ......

Teaching is a tough job we don’t need keyboard warriors and armchair teachers to be constantly kicking.

As suspected MN have done bugger all on the horrendous thread I reported. They have not even bothered with a please play nicely note. Just shows it is all click bait to them

@Appuskidu thank you 😊

Not a teacher but just wanted to say I also think there is far too much teacher bashing. My partner is a governor so knows what the Head is going through to keep school open for the kids who are there. I have kids in two different schools and both are doing everything they can. My friend who teaches in another country was in tears because it's been confirmed her school won't be back before September, so she won't get the chance to teach her class face to face again.

We are asking teachers to do an impossible task. None of you are trained or signed up for distance learning. Schools aren't even closed. And then people whine about schools should be open in the summer holidays. Bollocks to the lot of them. You are doing your best.

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 15:10

@ ParsnipToast. Thank you for your supportive words

ParsnipToast Star

You've summed things up rather well there . Thankyou.

If you would all like to keep this thread alive we'll leave this one well alone but we will be taking a look at some of the other threads about teachers that are still standing.

FrippEnos · 18/04/2020 15:29

We could just post this

silenceattheback · 18/04/2020 15:39

Wine cheers to the solidarity of this thread.

The long chain of teacher bashing threads is exhausting. I won't be reading them anymore.

To fellow teachers out there, well done. I see you, I hear you, I applaud you 👏🏼

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 15:43

@FlissMumsnet as the self appointed union representative I have asked MN already to look at some of the horrendous teacher bashing threads that have been active. I am, quite frankly, amazed that nothing has been done to date.

Please leave this thread alone as I created it as I have been quite upset at the high volume of anti teacher threads that appear on MN outside of the staff room! It is not just a corona virus issue it has been happening for some time

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 15:44

@silenceattheback. Thank you I felt a call to arms was needed for our own sanity!

Thank you for starting this thread. I like to think I'm fairly robust and developed quite the thick skin working in a rather challenging school in the past but some of these threads are getting me down. I keep going back to them though! Because of them, I'm questioning whether taking a few days to myself this 'holiday' is acceptable, but of course it is; I know this next term is going to be an absolute shit show and I can feel the anxiety rising already (not like me).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/04/2020 15:57

It is not just a corona virus issue it has been happening for some time

It does seem to have got particularly bad over the last year or two. The corona virus has just made it even worse.

Saoirse7 · 18/04/2020 15:57

BrewWine Solidarity with all you fellow teachers for the bullshit we've had to read on here recently.

There has been some venomous stuff spewed, topped off by that most recent thread where the OP said:

-"What are the teachers doing all day?"
-"I thought by reading on here that ALL teachers worked their holidays anyway"
Followed by:
"I used to be a teacher so I know how things work" wtf?? 😂😂 Not a teacher, you could tell a mile off.

We all know we're doing our best. The parents who are complaining are complaining about getting the resources and teaching, they're the bloody easy bits!!

Thank you to all the lovely parents who respect us as professionals and recognise things are as difficult for us right now as they are for them.

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 15:58

@fuckweasel - thank you. It is important to support each other

OP posts:
Appuskidu · 18/04/2020 16:02

"I used to be a teacher so I know how things work"

And possibly my favourite one-‘my mum was a primary school teacher just after the war and had a class of 40 and no classroom assistant!’ -the implication being that we are all slackers because that’s not how things are now.

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 16:03

@Saoirse7 thank you - solidarity is important.

We need a thread of positivity against the keyboard warriors and armchair teachers !

This will do wonders for our mental well being

Everyexitisanentrance · 18/04/2020 16:06

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay yes it has become worst and that is why I am urging all fellow teachers to take a stand against all future threads that have the slightest hint of teacher bashing

Loving the idea of flowers. I shall do that, as well as report then hide every single instance of teacher bashing I see. @FlissMumsnet thank you
