Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

@Everyexitisanentrance “Please leave this thread alone as I created it as I have been quite upset at the high volume of anti teacher threads that appear on MN outside of the staff room! It is not just a corona virus issue it has been happening for some time”
Apologies, I hadn’t really read this thread properly, or the teacher bashing ones. I’ll step away. Take care all, and thank you for everything you’ve done. I’ve enjoyed having a couple of weeks being more involved with the children’s school but no way could I do it full time.

Going back to that paper again, if the rate among staff and students was 41% and among close contacts of them at 11% in a community where transmission was estimated at 3% then doesn’t it suggest transmission in colleges is happening?

Sweden closed their high schools (same age group as lycées) at the end of March. Given they haven’t closed much else it would suggest they think having 16-19 year olds in school is a problem.

worstofbothworlds · 26/04/2020 23:21

I'm way more worried about my students (uni) giving it to me and each other than about my primary aged children giving it to me or their teachers (I know that sounds like I don't care about my DCs' teachers but from what I've been reading). So that makes sense rafa. And I think if I had 6th form DCs I'd be much more concerned too.

Yes it suggests this which fits in with the over 10s limited Iceland research

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 26/04/2020 23:31

Honest to god why do people keep popping up on this thread and have a go? It is clearly a teacher support thread where the initial plan was for a boycott and they want to moan about provision! Really? This is my first RTFT

At least Blackdog left with grace

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 26/04/2020 23:40

we need the upper years back in as soon as feasibly possible - year 10 and 12 need to catch up. Does the research imply that it is KS4 and KS5 that are an issue?

collateralmadamage · 27/04/2020 00:09

It seems to be worse the older we get from under 10 to 80 plus.

Mistressiggi · 27/04/2020 00:39

Honestly someone take my phone off me before I say what I'm really thinking on another thread and get deleted.
Actually a ban would probably be good for my mental health!

FrippEnos · 27/04/2020 00:40

Mistressiggi

They are an interesting bunch on that thread.

Mistressiggi · 27/04/2020 00:44

I don't even think the poster knows what she's arguing about, just that she is a better, braver teacher than the rest of us (like a teacher equivalent of the "cool wife")

collateralmadamage · 27/04/2020 01:36

Crackers on that thread.

Yup, that's exactly what it does sound like.

I’m starting to wonder if the members of the cabinet have a WhatsApp group to plan their exit strategy. I think they haven’t had got a clue and are hoping for other countries to come up with something good about schools reopening to copy as they don’t know how to do it. All their options are going to be slated by large numbers of people.

Each time another country release what they are doing, the texts ping between them going-‘Have you seen what Denmark have done?!’ ‘Oh, nooo, that’ll be too expensive and we haven’t got enough classrooms!, let’s wait and see and what France are doing’.

‘Ooh, the teaching unions in France are really stroppy about them going back too soon, we don’t really want that! Let’s wait and see what other countries are doing!’

‘Australia is going back full time as normal-Let’s copy them and find some research that says it’ll be fine! Oh, they don’t really have very many cases there do they? I’m not sure we’ll get away with that. What are Italy doing?’

‘Shit, Italy are closed till September. What now?!’

The group’s probably called, ‘We haven’t a shitting clue!’

I can tell which thread you mean, but it was closed before I got to it. Which I think is fortunate! And I'm guessing no joy on MNHQ removing Staffroom from Active, based on random posters popping up.
