Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

I think one particular poster needs to be told by @FlissMumsnet to step away from the keyboard and stop creating posts every couple of days like that one. You know, that one who's a teacher but better than everyone else. Grin

Appuskidu · 27/04/2020 10:09

I think some posts were deleted but I’m not sure if it was the right person’s posts!

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 10:09

Agree on that poster.
Has anyone seen this reported this morning?

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 10:10

Helps if I attach it

Appuskidu
I agree.
It's hard to see how anyone who is a genuine teacher could be so clueless about the reality of school life on a daily basis.

I've seen and heard a range of views on schools opening from different teachers. None of them have said we should go back without social distancing.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2020 10:27

Oh no, Riga, that’s terrible news if true.

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 10:32

It is but reading other threads it's a small number. I hope so.

bettybattenburg · 27/04/2020 10:38

Riga that's sent a chill down my spine.

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 10:43

I don't want to ' scaremonger' as other posters are doing but wondered if anyone else had seen it reported.

Small numbers are not. It has scared me a bit but trying to put it into perspective.

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 10:44

Not doing being accused of I meant

bettybattenburg · 27/04/2020 10:56

We need to be aware if we're in school providing care (as I am, though not today) so I don't see it as scaremongering.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/04/2020 11:17

There was a thread started today about that, initially it was dismissed but it's very concerning if in the guardian too. Extremely worrying :(

Every time I think about how "schools can go back" all routes lead to the same answer; they can't. At the least certainly not as they were. And definitely not for a while. Logistics of staffing is rarely considered in all these threads. We are going to have a similar lockdown scenario in the winter in my mind due to flu and other illnesses.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 27/04/2020 11:32

@NeurotrashWarrior - I like that one!

@RigaBalsam - yes just been reading that story. It is scary.

If schools go back we will need PPE!

From another thread I have gleaned that Amanda Spielman is offering her thoughts today to a select committee.

I am really pissed off that the head of Ofsted is going to offer her proclamations now on the quality and efficacy of home learning.

Those mocked up Ofsted grades don't look such a joke now. Our 'performance' is till being scrutinised and our charges are clearly supposed to still be making the same sort of progress.

Will wait and see what she says but I am majorly concerned that Ofsted could become a voice advocating the reopening of schools before time.

^ the government are operating some sort of “question from the public” lottery...

I went with

“Is it reasonable to expect that schools in England will remain closed to most students until September?”

Worth a shot?!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 27/04/2020 11:50

Well I have my evidence of what was set and how it was set. My classes are recorded. I know who attended, work uploaded and feedback given.

And one parent, from another school, has contacted me as to where I will offer on-line tutoring at A-level Grin

I think Katie Hopkins is a member of MN!

The really sad thing is that we are taking instruction from an organisation that failed its own inspection.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/04/2020 11:56

Ofsted should be getting involved with the bbc and oak academy then.

Just read a looooong list of things from the school on their website; essentially a full weeks' planning if they were in school. Was MIGHTILY relieved when it said at the end "dip in and out if these tasks as and when you need them."

White rose maths with toddler doing his "handwriting" is the main regular routine we are managing. Thankfully toddler is pen obsessed. And I'm now obsessed with berol bullet dry wipe pens; pricey but best I've ever used!

Some lovely easily slipped in activities. Ds is mainly shying away from the writing. He also wants to write about his own interests which I'm going to let him do. I think literacy is v hard to do well out of the context of the classroom.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/04/2020 11:57

organisation that failed its own inspection.

Shock I missed that one!

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 12:20

Amanda was so nervous like me in a bad cover lesson

TheHoneyBadger · 27/04/2020 13:13

Hi. Not pissed and ranty as yet today.

Was popping on to see if you’d all seen the reports of inflammatory syndrome in young people. That could be a total game changer in terms of public opinion on reopening schools. Hopefully will get highlighted as everyone has been loudly proclaiming the whole harmless for young people rhetoric which could lead to under reacting to children’s symptoms.

I had a complete break from mn and news yesterday and feel better for it.

RigaBalsam · 27/04/2020 13:17

Agree!

I think the thing to take away from it is to not rush into anything assuming kids are ‘immune’

TheHoneyBadger · 27/04/2020 13:27

Obviously no one gives a shit about our health 😆

I need to confess that ds13 has done pretty much nothing schoolwork wise. Do you think that’s terrible? He’s at the end of year 8 and I suspect not missing much and had become really unmotivated at school before this. We’re taking a complete break and deschool
