Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

the biggest issue I had with it was the ambiguity of the questions and their reliance on other things.

bettybattenburg · 25/04/2020 16:03

Betty batternburg, which one are you referring to? Boris?🥴

Any PM for whom the cap fits. Take your pick.

kissmewherethesundontshine · 25/04/2020 17:31

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince yes not each individual teacher texting, sorry, I meant the texts that come from school saying hope you all keeping safe, please check social media for updates/class emails etc

cheesecurdsandgravy · 25/04/2020 19:13

Well. I fell down the rabbit hole that was both of those threads. I managed not to post anything! Of course, the lunch time wine may have made me a bit zen... Grin

I hope everyone is managing to relax this weekend.

workload for me the emotional stress of facing that

Honey rant away, few understand and this is a safe space.

That sentence sums up how I've been for a few years. I feel broken. I have strong emotional reactions to be asked to re write curriculum docs again. In a way this is giving me the breathing space but I don't have the 'extra time' as I have my own young children, and Dh is working full time. I'm seriously thinking about leaving the profession again, which is silly as I'm now a specialist in the field and being asked to contribute to various local things around my subject.,

There were 9 children and it was impossible to keep them apart. The building was no more unclean than usual but I felt filthy. I was also so aware of touching anything- pencils, an iPad, picking up a coat. I really felt uneasy the whole time.

That's a typical primary Sen school class, 9-12 children. They're still 5 in their head when they're 10 and many have OT and PT programmes that require physical contact. I believe we'd be in favour of having more children but no way could we be fully open.

Repeatedly, no one appears to consider high staff absence when asking for schools to reopen.

Piggywaspushed · 26/04/2020 08:26

I fear colleagues rewriting curriculum to make up for lost time may find themselves doing it again. I am sometimes amazed by how many of my intelligent colleagues are also so uninformed and don't read more education news! Most of mine think we will go back in September or June, the virus will be gone and we'll just be back to normal school... I can see why non teachers might think/hope that this will be the case.

wornoutboots · 26/04/2020 08:49

I'm not a teacher but... Thank you. I couldn't do your job (I'd be sacked within a week!). You are under-appreciated. T.A.s even more so.

Teachers on an individual basis don't always get it right, but I've not met one since 1990l who I would say didn't try. So thank you

LolaSmiles · 26/04/2020 08:59

Piggy The same is true for some of my colleagues. Some of them are very good at jumping on whatever bandwagon they think will get brownie points with SLT but they don't keep up to date with education policy or news.

LolaSmiles · 26/04/2020 09:00

Thank you.

I've worked with a couple who didn't really try, but they are very definitely a tiny minority and not the numbers claimed by some on Mumsnet.

shopaholic85 · 26/04/2020 09:04

I took a little break from MN and returned yesterday to find fewer anti-teacher threads in active. Thank you for all your efforts! And enjoy a square of my often requested salted caramel brownies.

Thanks @lamplamplamo - have filled in the TES survey . Also thought it was confusing and badly worded.

@Piggywaspushed I worry about teachers wasting time doing this too. My dept are re-writing schemes/ assessments that we had planned to do anyway, so don't think that will be wasted time. We will get to teach the new stuff eventually.

Is anyone else enjoying working more normal hours? I've been busy during schools hours (responding to emails, planning, setting and marking work, attending online meetings, completing admin...etc) and juggling this with looking after a toddler. But I've been able to close my laptop and have an evening/weekend off.

Piggywaspushed · 26/04/2020 09:32

Oh yes, I feel a lot less stressed.I was a vocal advocate anyway for never taking work home but having no meetings, fewer emails and knowing I am more autonomous has been a breath of fresh air.

I got a load of work submitted late yesterday and know I won't have to mark it today so that I don't have that chest crushing feeling that I have to teach a full day Monday.

But I think some schools' workload bullies have come to the virtual fore!

Mistressiggi · 26/04/2020 12:44

How I feel about being at home is making me think I might have come to the end of the time I can stay a teacher for. If that makes sense.
Even being part time now, the stress levels of it all is not sustainable for me anymore. But I quite like paying my mortgage so we shall see!

lamplamplamo · 26/04/2020 12:55

Wondering how long it will take for the media and a thread to jump onto this Australian research.

Piggywaspushed · 26/04/2020 14:04

Another one has appeared shop which I am now stepping away from. Sadly , the teacher basher extraordinaire on that one is a Vice Chair of Gov.

pinkrocker · 26/04/2020 14:13

A CoG joining in with the bashing! Ofsted would love that.

bettybattenburg · 26/04/2020 14:17

Some C of G amaze me, like the ones who sit their in meetings discussing cuts to education being unacceptable when they voted Tory.

bettybattenburg · 26/04/2020 14:17

AARGH! There and not Their FFS

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/04/2020 14:20

And someone in that thread has jumped on the Australian research.

fuckweasel · 26/04/2020 14:27

Not only that, but adds 'Tawny Owl' to her list of credentials on that thread!

TubereuseNordlys · 26/04/2020 14:28

We've got a lovely CoG now, but our last one was horrific. Can't really say why without outing myself but she had a massive negative impact on pay and conditions. I feel for that poster's school Sad

shopaholic85 · 26/04/2020 14:43

@Piggywaspushed, yes saw that one. Didn't take long did it? OP had no interest in anything teachers had to say, which was frustrating enough, but then that VCoG waded in with her hateful opinions and poor grasp of spelling. I would hate to work in her school!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/04/2020 15:03

Just seen the NHS perks thread. God help them when they find out about Health service discounts and the blue light card.

Piggywaspushed · 26/04/2020 15:19

I am fed up of the ' well , nurses go to work and then have health conditions' garbage. It's such bollocks. People who trot that one out need to consider how many awful and threatening tactics are being deployed to keep pregnant, diabetic etc health workers on the frontline.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/04/2020 15:38

Quite, Piggy. And ignores the fact that some of those people who were front line are in work but have been moved to somewhere lower risk. What’s the similar option for teachers?

Slightly surprised that a certain poster’s relative is on a covid +ve ICU with a shielding relative at home. I don’t know if that’s typical unless she’s moved out into different accommodation. It does seem to be a bit hit and miss.
