Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Saw this and thought of you lot!

Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Im not a teacher and I came on this thread from active conversations to see what it's about, I've not seen any of the threads but they sound awful. A lot of parents at my children s school seem very critical and unsupportive of school and I wonder if it's from their bad experiences at school. I loved school and don't share their views at all, I see it differently. The families I am in touch with all vary widely in their circumstances and how well we feel we are doing with lockdown home schooling.

Piggywaspushed · 25/04/2020 12:35

Honey two supermarket workers have now told me they are so thankful for everything teachers are trying to do. You are right : most parents are so lovely. MN attracts people who like a debate and all too often schools are a soft target, sadly.

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2020 12:35

Sorry that your school is being shit and not protecting you from arsey parents, Honey. Do you have to reply?

Piggywaspushed · 25/04/2020 12:35

I just went on my walk and it was like the 70s again...kids are playing hopscotch!

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 12:50

Have to remind myself that actually mn is not that representative of the population

It’s as if they think we’re all 25 year olds with no kids rather than being just like them.

And This

Appuskidu · 25/04/2020 12:59

Not sure if anyone is on the Global Educators collective FB group (set up during the school closures) but there’s a really good thread going now about how different countries are opening up their schools.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2020 13:06

I"m talking about here not parent emails Grin

I have just attacked the patch of grass under the tree at the end of my drive with hand shears. It has made me feel a bit better.

bettybattenburg · 25/04/2020 13:08

Speaking of which, our PM has announced that social distancing is not necessary in schools due to low infection rates among children

Yet another example of rank stupidity in PMs and a President, it seems to be prevalent right now Hmm JA seems to be one of the few who is unaffected so far.

Noodlenosefraggle · 25/04/2020 13:27

Social distancing will be a piece of cake due to all the people clamouring to go into the profession because it's so easy, especially with their extensive experience of homeschooling their 5 year old for a month!

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2020 13:35

Grin noodle. Problem solved. I won't mind at all sitting down with them whilst they cry their eyes out in week two of a 50% timetable and explain how to log in let alone use the 50 weird unconnected pieces of software they need to master just to register their class, record behaviour points and call for emergency assistance (that no longer exists because we don't have enough staff to do patrol anymore). I'll also happily explain that emailing the year office about so and so's behaviour does no good because the head of year is no longer a teacher who actually has experience of the reality of the classroom but is someone on 10k a year who was the lolly pop lady last term.

It'll be grand!

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2020 13:39

Oh and yes I know they told you to f&k off you f84king b87ch and threw a chair across the room last lesson but yes you do have to have them back in your lesson today without an apology or any response from the emails and calls you made to the year office because that's your job butter cup. Suck it up and try to make it to the next 10 minute break when you can hopefully manage to empty your bladder and log the behaviour points, answer the fifty emails and fit in a 'restorative' with the kid who told you to f&k off last week and their parent complained because you removed them from the lesson.

Gosh! Is it time for me to get my coat?

kissmewherethesundontshine · 25/04/2020 13:52

I am a parent WFH full time and under more pressure than if I was in office due to other staff furloughs which was necessary. My 9yo DS has had to pretty much fend for himself with school work I showed him how to access his schools website to get work and he cracks on, our teachers have all been amazing, emailing/texting to keep in touch, sending personalised messages to the kids and keeping social media updated with pics of kids for the kids to see. I hope I'm not in the minority thinking teachers are working very hard at the minute and doing a fab job keeping the kids ticking over. So thank you to all of you Thanks

Noodlenosefraggle · 25/04/2020 14:29

kissme it seems you are from the threads on here but not in real life so thanks! Because I work with medically vulnerable people my classes are entirely remote now. The work both my kids schools are giving them is the only way I can do it!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 25/04/2020 14:39

Texting?! Are you sure?!!!

This breaks all safeguarding rules.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 25/04/2020 14:43

Betty batternburg, which one are you referring to? Boris?🥴

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 14:46

I really fancy some Battenburg now! Yum!

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 15:16

There is a survey monkey on tes if anyone fancies filling it in about closures and practical social distancing.

Appuskidu · 25/04/2020 15:24

@lamplamplanp can you link to the survey-I can’t find it?

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 15:30

Maybe its random I clicked this and it popped up

TheHoneyBadger · 25/04/2020 15:40

I know this is idealistic, but let's all be realistic and kind to each other. There is an international pandemic. We are all trying to blunder through this time as best we can. Those of us who are teachers ( and i'm sure there are others i'm not aware of who are as chased by stats as we are) or otherwise hounded by results data that ignores reality, try to LET IT GO.

Realistically they can moan and groan and debate what we should have done as much as they like but realistically the gap between reality and teaching 180 kids a day was already so broad that there was no wiggle room.

i'm really sorry your child doesn't have clear learning objectives and resources - mine too, he's 13, - but hello! this is a pandemic

Mistressiggi · 25/04/2020 15:43

Appreciated Smile @kissmewherethesundontshine

Appuskidu · 25/04/2020 15:43

Thank you-I’ve done it.

The last question was stupid!

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 15:53

The one where the outcomes are so dependent on things you don't necessarily know eg how many cleaners can attend to deep clean?

Appuskidu · 25/04/2020 15:57

It was, ‘if schools reopen fully, which of these things could you do in your schools?’

Wash hands regularly
Stagger playtime
Stop parents talking in the playground

Ok...

But then..

Reduce class sizes
Have half the class coming in half the week
Etc

Those things aren’t fully reopening?!

Yes-if we have 10 children max at a time in for 3 days a fortnight each, we would be able to socially distance and wash hands and stagger playtimes more daily than if we have classes of 35!

We can only have reduced class sizes if the government instruct us to do that!

And that isn’t fully reopening?!
