Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Agree, it doesn't make sense up here (waaaaaay up rural North) because it can lead to closure of the Middles the Firsts would have streamed into.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 20:28

Yes piggy, I feel for y4s leaving school half way through the year and then going into a giant middle with 6-8 form entry and nearly fully fledged teens at the top end. They're so young and as you say, it's more like secondary than primary. I believe they get kept away from the older years in y5, but still.

greathat · 22/04/2020 20:29

Eurgh a day of answering kids questions. Not about the work I'd be fine with that, but about what to do, because they couldn't be bothered to read the instructions. Argh!

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 20:30

Ah yes Pink I'm north east; Newcastle, north Tyneside etc. All have the random mix. As do Northumberland which you
must be top of. And Gateshead seem to do the infant/ junior school thing.

bettybattenburg · 22/04/2020 20:34

Rafais I remember there being uproar when that happened not far from us a few years ago.

One of mine emailed to ask if when we go back should he come in with his new isolation trim?

They are funny but yes lots of emails asking questions when they information is there.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 20:35

DH's kids wanted to know how they can get a new exercise book as they have run out of pages....

CarrieBlue · 22/04/2020 20:38

I went to school in a three tier system - Worcestershire, but two minutes down the road to Warwickshire which had a two tier system and grammars.

pinkrocker · 22/04/2020 20:39

Neuro yeah that's me! Middle schools here aren't that big though. The big local First schools don't have capacity to keep Y5&6 so we're absolutely needed.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/04/2020 20:54

@Piggywaspushed our HT has been out delivering books. That is going above and beyond.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 21:11

He's obviously very bored!

SallyLovesCheese · 22/04/2020 22:16

That "hell zone" tweet sure makes sense. I've been feeling okay the last few days as working but fully expect tomorrow or Friday to be a hell zone day. It comes in waves, that's for sure.

Does your school have Teams? I have a Teams group for each of my classes with the strict instructions to use Teams for non-private matters so all can see the questions, and my answer.

Which is usually: read the lesson plan.:o

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/04/2020 07:02

I had a horrible day yesterday with various colleagues trying to face time me about spreadsheets and data, a full on day on Teams, writing and emailing feedback and making a couple of help videos. I started crying at about 3 o'clock and couldn't stop. I am normally a lot more resilient than this but I am going to pieces at the slightest things. Dreading today.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 07:21

It feels like this Teams thing is too much stress.

My DH is getting very very worked up about this first teams lesson today. I have fiddled about with it (not him!!) a bit and Google Classroom is so much better and clearer. nd I can do feedback directly on to the work.. can you do that in Teams?

set, it'll all work out ; don't expect too much of yourself - it's new to us all. It sounds like you tried to do too much in one day...

Is this private school?

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 07:22

Sorry, that didn't sound very sympathetic... Flowers Brew It was meant to!

Ihavenoregrets · 23/04/2020 07:30

@SetPhasersTaeMalkie Oh poor you....... I have taken to having 5 minutes sat in garden just breathing in and out slowly when I feel like this. I was in tears on video call with my LM yesterday...just feel crap and inadequate [have always suffered a bit from impostor syndrome]
Teams drives me mad to..... i still cant get to grips with it and keep getting emails about using rubics on there!!!!!! WTF?????

SallyLovesCheese · 23/04/2020 07:30

Sorry to hear you're down, set, it happens to us all. I hope today is a better day 💐

A new morning, a new thread pointing out teachers' errors. I made a point to thank all those who had posted positive things about teachers.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/04/2020 08:01

On God, thank you so much for your kind words. It makes a big difference because we are all so isolated so it's good to hear Teams is driving everyone mad too. I have a normally lovely teenage son who is appalled at my technical incompetence 😂.

It's just a state primary.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 23/04/2020 08:04

I’m not sure what cheered me most this morning. The many many YABUs from other parents on the “teacher was wrong” thread or the philosophy thread. Takes all sorts, eh Grin

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 08:10

The bashers haven't woken up yet .

Sorry to piss on your chips!

I may step away from that one. The OP must be having a bad moment because she is not a usual grump.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 08:11

That seems a lot of expectation for a state primary. Ignore the Face Times today?

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 08:13

Thankfully, I can't get FaceTime or Skype or anything like that on my laptop. There is a sudden obsession with seeing each other (which always forces you to be more instant and 'on') when at school people did just used to email each other!

RigaBalsam · 23/04/2020 08:14

They have started on the nurses!

I don't understand why NHS staff aren't being furloughed on 80% pay given so many services/operations/screenings have been cancelled. I know ITU are busy in some hospitals and some staff have been redeployed there from other wards but there must be thousands of staff twiddling their thumbs. Or making cringey videos.

Sighhhhh

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 23/04/2020 08:15

I’m a teacher by trade although have been at home for a few years with little ones (not just in lockdown!). I had no real expectations on my children’s teachers. I know they are working on a rota in school and have lots of keyworker children in, due to our demographics. However they have been wonderful and supportive, through an online journal/classroom platform. They’ve set moderate levels of playful work, but stressed not to worry. They’ve responded to photos we’ve uploaded and tried to encourage, laugh, banter with the kids (hard in written form!). They’ve been kind and enquired about the stress of our home situation (DH a keyworker) in a way that shows genuine compassion not just ticking some box.
Honestly, I couldn’t have been more impressed. I don’t have that expectation on all teachers. I know so many will have their own battles with home life lockdown.

But thank you to all the teachers who are making the best of the situation with whatever time and resources they have. Most parents don’t want you to risk your health or family wellbeing, and do appreciate your efforts, around your home life which absolutely should be taking priority if you have children or dependents.

Thank you!
