Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

There are some vile people on Mumsnet aren’t there? Despicable.

Thank you so much! Lovey to read Grin

I hate Face Time - I find it really intrusive. Why not just phone or email, as you say?

Another thank you from me.

RigaBalsam · 23/04/2020 08:32

Thank you once more

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2020 08:32

Riga
There's some deeply nasty people out there who seem to have a special dislike for public sector workers.

So sad.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 08:53

riga : that came out (the bashing of nurses) by a thread which filled up very quickly the other day started by a nurse who said everything was very quiet in her hospital. Many misunderstood her point and have concluded that there are also lots of nurse, cancer support workers, etc. doing bugger all and lapping up the free hour at Tesco.

There is so much resentment. But let's remind ourselves how many lovely people there are on MN, too .

If they are nasty on here, we would probably not have to encounter them much in RL (although as public sector workers there's a higher chance): it feels magnified here is the problem

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 08:54

Anyway.. you can't furlough public sector workers!

RigaBalsam · 23/04/2020 09:06

I agree. We would probably not give them the time of day in real life.

ChloeDecker · 23/04/2020 09:28

There’s a right clanger on the AIBU post about homeschooling (the other one) who is fulfilling every bit of teacher basher bingo!

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2020 09:35

I'm enjoying the number of supportive replies on the thread that goes 'teacher made a mistake and uploaded work for y8 instead of y7, they said sorry, I'm annoyed'.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 09:55

Can I please have some comforting words?

DH doing first online lesson. He is driving me mad asking me questions, sighing, panicking , handing me his laptop )well the school's) every two seconds.

I am not sure my year 10s will ever get their Macbeth work.

RigaBalsam · 23/04/2020 09:57

Aren't union guidelines not to do live lessons?

I can't even imagine how hard it is.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 10:38

Oh, these aren't even videoed ones : just a lesson in teams with Chat. He can talk to them but no cameras. But the kids are needy and DH can't understand the tech.

I use Google Classroom so don't even really know how to help.

An hour later and I am just settling to setting work for my lot.

I can see why these parents kick off now!! Gin needed.

lamplamplanp · 23/04/2020 10:51

I am having all queries by email it's not stop pinging. Bless them

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 11:05

I have just seen the NHS dancing threads. For the love of God and all things that are holy, what is WRONG with some people??

RigaBalsam · 23/04/2020 11:10

Can't win Piggy

noblegiraffe · 23/04/2020 11:19

Some people seem to be going on the Daily Mail website, picking their shittiest talking points and then bringing them over here.

Why might a right-wing rag be desperate to dismantle the NHS Heroes narrative I wonder?

FrippEnos · 23/04/2020 12:22

noblegiraffe

It is very interesting to see how the reporting has changed.

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2020 12:41

It's almost like some people in positions of power and influence want to run the NHS into the ground and continue their war against the public sector.

And people fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Piggywaspushed · 23/04/2020 13:37

Someone has started a nice thread thanking teachers in the Staffroom. I have popped in to thank her for her kind words.

Ihavenoregrets · 23/04/2020 14:27

See DM are yet again reporting on schools starting back in just under three weeks under the traffic light plan. They really do have a bee in their sizeable bonnet around this dont they.

DoubleTweenQueen · 23/04/2020 14:30

It's the DM though :) Best to avoid.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 23/04/2020 14:43

Haters and baiters don’t like it because they are repeatedly being told that they are not a key worker. They have gone from being what they think is the top to somewhere down below. Poor old celebrities are not so full of the big I am now.

Meanwhile back in my world I have spent 50 minutes teaching a student dressed as Tigger
