Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

@Ihavenoregrets

ThanksThanksThanksWineWine
Keep posting here. It is tough.

Can you FaceTime/ zoom people to help cheer you up?

We have a Department quiz every Wednesday night. Lifts my spirits.

I also watch a movie on Netflix at the same time as my sister and we discuss it.

Keep posting here. It is worrying. I am sorry.

Ihavenoregrets · 22/04/2020 17:48

Cheers...just feel so overwhelmingly lonely today. Have tried to be positive and upbeat but... my head is being flooded with so much negativity.
Have to get a grip.

Ive cracked and opened the wine..... Smile

I miss the kids and their funny humour and their way of seeing the world.... no matter how shit I have felt on some days at school there is always one who will give me belly laughs [often with something inappropriate]

I worry about my vulnerable kids whose lives are just truly shit and yet come to school smiling each day...... god I am welling up here.

Sorry.

I will stop now

@ChloeDecker If you are firing up the stove... prawns fried in garlic oil and chilli flakes with some nice crusty bread Grin

Quite right! Chocolate mousse for pudding?
I’ll put the welcome cocktail on ice. Don’t be late!!!

We have a Department quiz every Wednesday night. Lifts my spirits.

We do, every Friday using Microsoft Forms, like we would using TES in our actual Staffroom. They seem to be trickier than normal!

fuckweasel · 22/04/2020 18:29

@ihavenoregrets Waves to fellow lone teacher!

I get you. I went off school when the government announced the 'vulnerable' list. I have had no company for five weeks. Most of the time it's fine, but I definitely have wobbles too. My lovely friends won't even let me go to the shop as we are very remote from hospital care here and they worry about me being asthmatic. Virtual pub sessions are a lifesaver! Crack open a bottle and get a couple of friends on Skype for a couple of hours.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 18:57

Geoff Barton was just on sky news. He was actually ok.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 19:04

What did he say riga?

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 19:21

It was a question and answer bit.

Paraphrased

He basically said that we had only been of nearly 15 days so from a learning point of view it wasn't that bad but if it went in months it may come an issue. He said he can't see anyone back until June but even then their would be staff that could not attend and he would need more advice from the Scientists. When asked how to stagger he said y6 , y10, y12 on a rota with some teachers.

He said there were other ways to learn rather than just screen time etc.
It wasn't a huge segment.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 19:21

Off!

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 19:22

There! Oh gosh its been a long day

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 19:28

Still a fine summary.

Feel left out by ed chit chat as we have three tier system : anyone else?

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 19:31

Thanks Piggy

Feel left out by ed chit chat as we have three tier system : anyone else?

What/who is this? Easy confused me its been a long day.

Coronabored · 22/04/2020 19:34

For what it is worth I have never got the vitriol that is placed upon teachers. I think you do an amazing job!

bettybattenburg · 22/04/2020 19:44

Sad to report that every single one of the students who have gone no work are boys.... We need Mr Boys Don't Try to counsel us on that one!

If it makes you feel better my son was still (voluntarily) doing school work when I got home from work. He's had two days at home on his own and still did it.

We have the three tier system too.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 19:58

Oh do you Betty? ! !

My DS2 is actually a hard worker and wouldn't dream of not doing his work. DS1.... not so much...

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 19:59

Thanks corona (that sounds weird)..

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 20:02

So, riga we here have lower school, followed by middle 9years 5-8) and then have uppers (9-13) but this is massively confused by some towns having 11-16 or 11-18 now and there being a sixth form college and some private schools which do their own thing...

The Upper Schools are huge and have year groups typically of 350 - 450 so predicting grades and rank ordering for core subjects in GCSE is fun.

Three tier system is always fun when Ofsted call as well, especially for the middle schools, who get secondary inspections.

pinkrocker · 22/04/2020 20:13

@Piggywaspushed yes I'm in a 3-tier too, First (R-4) Middle (5-8) then High (9-onwards) whereabouts are you (if it's not too revealing!)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/04/2020 20:14

For a bit of extra fun you can switch from a three tier to two tier and assume that all the year 7 teachers are secondary teachers (our middles were yr4-yr7). This will ensure you have too many primary teachers and not enough secondary ones.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 20:17

Ahhh piggy that makes sense. So a general approach would not work.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 20:19

@Ihavenoregrets oh I can fully imagine this is unbelievably hard. A colleague lives on her own but at least is on the rota for school; she found the Easter hols very hard.

I even used to find some summer hols tough when I first because a teacher and especially when I was single. I'm doing the 12 week thing and starting to feel lonely even with a husband and kids. They're young so sometimes being very clingy. I need more head space.

We have the three tier system. It's bonkers as within 5 mins walking distance you can have primary schools and then first and middle schools. And then some schools have infant and junior schools, basically ks1 and ks2 split on slightly different sites. But a local "junior school" is actually a middle...

So you can potentially have "leavers" in y2, y4, y6, y8, y10 and y12 across all types of school. And then Nurseries now "graduate... "

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 20:21

I'm in Beds pink

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 20:24

Yes, lots of systems so all this 'we must get year 6 in and year 7 matters so much' doesn't make sense in lots of areas...

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 20:25

I wish I could give more advice noregrets and fuckweasle. Can you have a sensible socially distancing walk chat with anyone?

This is fucking mental some days. This was shared on fb or twitter or somewhere.
