Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Ah that's nice Riga! I'm not going in due to the 12 week thing, I'm working as hard as I can (and obviously teaching my own child (ish) to reduce pupil load at school) so don't feel I personally deserve a pay rise, but I know very many of you who definitely do.

A friend has her two under 7s mostly parked on screens most of the day so she can contact pupils as she's in a pastoral role. I really feel for her.

‘Alfie will happily do his work for his teacher, but when it comes to mummy it’s a different thing.’

And

"Neuro's pupils will happily work for her at school but when it comes to her own children, it's a different thing..."

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 12:39

I'm one of those who got quite annoyed about the oak academy. I didn't under how it came about. I now have eaten my words. I note that many on twitter aren't aware that it was teachers setting it up and offered to the dfe.

The issue is for many is that it's an academy chain and many well respected education leaders haven't been asked to contribute. Though I note some critics are the self employed who've cancelled lots of cpd and now struggling for funds. At the same time, they could definitely be employed to create content.

But that's the government's fault. The decentralisation of education was a shit show.

Definitely my Dd refuses to work with me or husband. Maths and Science teachers as she doesn't see why she should have to do more than others.

Always wanted to know: was Tom's behaviour management splendiferous??!

It was a pretty tough school in London and his approach was as good as any (better than Bill Rogers for that type of school imo) but as with anything, sometimes what works for some kids doesn’t work for others. He’s a decent bloke at any rate!

CallmeAngelina · 22/04/2020 13:36

On a positive note, has anyone else's school been inundated with donated chocolates and biscuits from parents as thankyous? I was in yesterday on rota and there were also printed-out thank you notes/emails in the staff room. Not just from Key Worker parents, but others who are appreciating the quality and quantity of the work we are sending out. (Primary)
So that's nice! SmileEnvyCake

CallmeAngelina · 22/04/2020 13:38

Sorry, not sure what that green emoji was about. Slipped itself in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 13:39

Aw that's lovely! I don't know but parents are very appreciative on social media.

I'm in stitches with this; not very clear as stolen from twitter:

as she doesn't see why she should have to do more than others.

My son doesn't see why he can't do playdough/ watch twirlywoos / play in the sand like his toddler brother.

Poor toddler has to be at the table doing "handwriting" while elder one works, at least at first.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 14:02

oor toddler has to be at the table doing "handwriting" while elder one works, at least at first.

Awwww cute

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/04/2020 14:16

@Dilligaf81 thank you very much for those kind words - cake is always appreciated in the Staffroom

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/04/2020 14:20

@Ihavenoregrets - ooh a cafetiere with frothy milk rather an a cup of tea!

I might have one of those

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/04/2020 14:28

@Noodlenosefraggle - well I have been said on my arse all morning trying to control classes using Teams - they keep muting each other, kicking each other out of teams, etc, etc. Parents are probably giggling in the kitchen. Stressful but hilarious - drinks being made, snacks delivered, pets joining in, younger sibling, etc

Next lesson starts shortly! whoop whoop

If we ignore threads then the baiters and haters (ooh like that term) can just jog on.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 14:42

I cheered myself up by senfjng nice emails to parenrs of children who are working really hard, otherwise I expend too mhch energh worrying about the ones who do nothing. Got some nice replies.

Sad to report that every single one of the students who have gone no work are boys.... We need Mr Boys Don't Try to counsel us on that one!

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 14:46

Hopefully there were fewer typos in emails to parents otherwise they'll think I have been on the Gin

mnahmnah · 22/04/2020 15:27

Noodlenosefraggle · 22/04/2020 15:39

I have apprentices so teams has been great for 1-1's but my taught classes- blimey! I did it once so I'm sending worksheets and activities out and then contacting them one by one! Luckily I'm adult learning I dont have 30 of them in each class!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/04/2020 16:12

Well, Rupert Evelyn has been struck off the christmas card list and is not allowed into the staffroom for tea/coffee/cakes/biscuits.

He is a baiter and hater

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 16:19

He is looking desperately for a story.

Still no what are dentists/restaurants staff etc doing with their time tweets?

Mistressiggi · 22/04/2020 16:29

Who is that arse? I love how he hasn't got the replies he wants so keeps asking are they primary etc.
Wanker.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 17:12

He definitely has an anti primary agenda.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 17:14

I'm not going to be the one to tell him he went to the wrong social media platform to get the bile he wanted!

pinkrocker · 22/04/2020 17:22

He's not getting the replies he thought he might get is he...

Ihavenoregrets · 22/04/2020 17:31

Warning - pity party
Oh Im struggling today...... massive wobble
On my own in lockdown for 5 weeks now
Miss human contact
My cat keeps leaving bloody corpses on my bed as a 'morning gift'

Nobody to talk to really

ChloeDecker · 22/04/2020 17:39

Ihavenoregrets

We are all definitely here to hand hold and keep you company. Wow! Living by yourself must be taking a lot of strength and perseverance currently and you are also a true credit to teaching.

What’s on the virtual menu tonight folks?
