Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Piggy it is hard not to engage but I think it the way forward.

I was reading another thread about a different issue and a poster said that they wish Mumsnet would not allow duplicate threads. If we said that there would be a pile on.

I didn't appreciate pointing out a duplicate thread was like being the playground.

I am going to ignore them I think. I am done with them.

Love your style Dili!

CallmeAngelina · 22/04/2020 09:23

Morning all. Sorry I'm late.
Can I grab a coffee first?

ChloeDecker · 22/04/2020 09:24

Lovely to read Dilligaf81 thank you!

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 09:24

There's a method often used on FWR called grey rock approach . It's effectively being very dull and boring and not engaging. Usually works on narcissists.

Completely ignoring would let them all agree on a magical date and the thread would die.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 09:25

Love it Neuro

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 09:30

Then I turn on sky news and Olivia from the sun says some schools aren't pulling their weight and they should not if closed in the first place.

Odious woman!

Sigh!

@Ihavenoregrets

We had the Texas BBQ and a pepperoni. I was disappointed that there was no Hawaiian option.

I ordered cookies too.

Paying for it all this morning though with dreadful heartburn.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 09:40

The education story up for discussion today will be that the (educationally) vulnerable children are not attending school. This will prompt another call for all schools to return to fix what is huge societal problem, not actually caused by school closure, just highlighted by it.

Every child I have ever taught with a social worker and who would now be invited to attend has had very very complex needs and issues. Some came to school regularly and thrived, and would now. But the majority were school refusers, repeat truants, runaways, easily groomed etc. All terribly terribly sad. It should not take a pandemic for the government and media to care about this or even notice it.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 09:41

What is FWR?

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 09:49

Female and women's rights board.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 09:49

You get a lot of men's rights idiots wading in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 09:51

Piggy, I think most of society harbours various internal unresolved anger towards teachers from childhood and so like to find a way to blame the profession for anything.

Social workers can't do right for wrong either.

Absolutely agree with this. I use this very point with my PGCE mentees when talking about effective parental communication and engagement

BelleSausage · 22/04/2020 10:15

Thanks for a great briefing @Piggywaspushed. Much more informative than the usual ones!

People don’t seem to realise how demoralising all the criticism is. Every teacher I know was up for the challenge originally and have put loads of effort in. To be characterised as cowards by armchair commentators who are risking nothing is totally galling and makes me feel like throwing in the towel.

Except no teacher I know would abandon their kids like that.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 10:19

That's really interesting ihave. I hadn't really thought about it till now!

In this day and age I feel parents are more pushy and demanding to 20 years ago when I trained, and communication is higher due to email, social media etc so it makes sense to prepare pgce students for this.

noblegiraffe · 22/04/2020 10:20

What gets me is that when you look at twitter there are so many teachers up for bashing other teachers too. That Oak Academy lot have come in for a right kicking. Probably from the same people who hate Tom Bennett.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 10:21

Meant to say, great soap box post piggy.

I'm supposed to be working so chase me away when you see me here!

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 10:46

Me too, just checked in after emailing 20 parents and five students and then dealing with all the work suddenly handed in late. I feel like a headless chicken!

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 10:49

Twitter is not nice : their not niceness is magnified and public. I don't get why you would want people to know who you are. At least here, people are in disguise and not posting to influence policy or opinion. I would never use my professional Twitter account in that way. My head follows me for a start!

I think there are a lot of noses out of joint. And I do agree with Barbara Bleiman and James Durran on their criticism of the way English is going. But they criticise nicely.

ChloeDecker · 22/04/2020 11:05

Fun fact: I used to work in the same school with Tom Bennett back in the day!

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 11:51

Pretty sure another journo has just started a learning from home thread.

Am ignoring even though I want to ask her why she wants to know.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2020 11:52

Always wanted to know: was Tom's behaviour management splendiferous??!

LolaSmiles · 22/04/2020 12:03

They're also very willing to debate with us small people too and consider other views as valid.
