Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

8.16 - resources not up early enough

Everyone’s doing PE with Joe at 9.01. And they'll be dead for at least half an hour after that.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 19/04/2020 22:24

Will they be expecting someone at the bbc / Oak Academy to be available 24/7 to mark the work / answer queries / babysit their children?

LolaSmiles · 19/04/2020 22:32

Of course not, that's what their children's teachers are for.

I'm waiting for the next round of 'but what DO teachers do all day?' threads combined with 'I know I complained about needing school to set up a full online learning platform and said teachers were slackers for not doing it, but now the DfE and BBC have both provided material I wish to complain that it requires the use of household devices that we either don't have, don't have enough of, or I'm using for work'.

FrippEnos · 19/04/2020 22:33

It will be teachers getting paid to teach when the BBC and Oak Academy are doing it.

SallyLovesCheese · 19/04/2020 22:36

Ah, guys! I missed this! Been getting into far too many threads and trying to post reasonable arguments when I should have been posting flowers!

I will do from now on, I promise. Solidarity with all my teacher colleagues, we know we're just getting on with things! Stay safe Flowers

2020hello · 19/04/2020 22:41

Hi, sorry I'm a parent but his just came up in Active.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you! And offer you FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

Piggywaspushed · 19/04/2020 22:43

Thank you!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 19/04/2020 22:56

@SallyLovesCheese - Welcome #solidarity

@AnneElliott - the nastiness was building up before cv but has worsened

@2020hello - Thank you for your kind words of support

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 19/04/2020 23:00

@FlissMumsnet - can we be removed from Active threads please?

LolaSmiles · 19/04/2020 23:10

Could staffroom as a topic be removed from active threads? I think that was done for the SEN topic.

It might save the goady ones turning up on Staffroom threads where posters are struggling and/or seeking help.

Downton57 · 19/04/2020 23:11

I shall do the flower thing too. I took early retirement from teaching this year and am so glad, as I could not have coped with teaching entirely online and would have absolutely hated not seeing the children. The recent threads have been dreadful, and none of you deserve that kind of cheeky, ignorant shit of the 'they're enjoying the nice weather' variety. Solidarity to you all.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 19/04/2020 23:19

@Downton57 - you are most welcome and thank you for your support.

@LolaSmiles - yes, blocking the staffroom from active threads is an even better idea.

After all I might not have enough mugs if all the GFs rock up as well and I fear they may not fully understand staff room mug etiquette

Butterymuffin · 19/04/2020 23:27

Saw this in active. From a mum, thanks for all you are doing and don't let the moaners grind you down! FlowersFlowersFlowers

flumposie · 19/04/2020 23:38

Glad I found this thread. I've been so disheartened by the teacher bashing. Now I'll just leave flowers.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 19/04/2020 23:38

I would love it if the staff room was hidden from Active. I'm going to keep hiding the threads and if I can pluck up the courage I'll post flowers.

I am very, very close to leaving MN and I've been here for years. 😣

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/04/2020 23:43

I'm a parent of a secondary school child and support staff in a different setting.

My child's school has been brilliant, I emailed the different teachers to tell them so when we broke up for Easter. He has been back this week and it's still great.

You are all amazing. Thank you. I am scattering flowers across threads in support.

I'm going into my setting tomorrow to support keyworkers children and am nervous about it but really looking forward to seeing even a tiny, tiny percentage of our children.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 19/04/2020 23:50

@SetPhasersTaeMalkie @flumposie @raspberryrippleicecream #solidarity

Yes, some of the threads have been horrendous and will just drive staff away.

@Butterymuffin - thank you for your kind words of support

#teachermentalhealth - happy teachers lead to happy students

fikel · 19/04/2020 23:54

You’re all doing a marvellous job in these trying circumstances, mumsnetters has become really awful of late

tadjennyp · 19/04/2020 23:59

I have also felt miserable with the amount of teacher bashing threads lately. I loved going in last week for the couple of kids we had in. I realised much I missed the interaction. Flowers

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 00:00

@fikel - thank you.

@FrippEnos has made a very good point on another thread about the secondary school DT departments all make PPE shields. I know at my secondary school the DT teachers have been in doing that. Those sorts of positive stories rarely get beyond school twitter accounts. Having made stuff for care homes and health workers there are no resources left for the DT teachers to make stuff for us just in case.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 00:01

@tadjennyp - join the campaign! positive comments only #teachermentalhealth

BlueHairBlues · 20/04/2020 00:24

I love you all 💚

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2020 00:32

I wouldn’t want the Staffroom removed from Active because that’s how most teachers find it.

But non-teachers coming here and winding teachers up should be deleted more promptly. It doesn’t happen that often, tbh.

bettybattenburg · 20/04/2020 06:07

What Noble said.

LolaSmiles · 20/04/2020 06:26

That's a fair point noble.
