PhoneTwattery · 22/03/2020 17:53

Well, here we go!

Happy to do my bit but not exactly looking forward to tomorrow.

For anyone who is interested I'll report back here tomorrow with numbers of students, numbers of staff and generally how the day went in terms of activities and behaviour.

Good luck everyone!

13 in mine today and a rota has been drawn up. It was a very strange day.

Useruseruserusee · 23/03/2020 15:08

We are a three form entry primary school in London. 15 out of 600 children in. I’m not expected in at all due to a high risk family member. Those who can are working one day a week.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 15:34

Right, so I can see all the kids being picked up now. Lots of them by men. Hate to say it but I do wonder if these are families where the DW is a keyworker and the man has said he is not being left alone with the DCs all day.

The women I am seeing often have a toddler in tow at pick up and are in jeans etc. Hmmm.
I do like a curtain twitch

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/03/2020 16:15

I picked Dd up in jeans (sans toddler though) because we are in casual wear at my school.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 16:23

Oh I am sure some of the jeans are more than valid workwear. I just know what people round here are like and their sense of entitlement is huge!

pepsipeckle · 23/03/2020 16:24

minimum staff in on a minimum 2 week rotation if not more. Staff should not be doing a 2.5 day rotation as a child could infect all staff in a week ! Everyone else should be at home !

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 16:27

A school on the news was doing a week on , followed by 2 weeks SI.

DoubleAction · 23/03/2020 17:22

We were expecting 7 and saw 2. All vulnerable, so not a good thing.

What happens if we keep opening be cause Chile should be in and no one comes? Seems daft to have (a handful) of staff in for no reason.

Theduchessstill · 23/03/2020 17:38

So should they be cooking? Just had an email from someone in my school concerned she was asked to help kids with cooking today - surely that's quite a difficult task to keep sanitised? I'm worried people are going to be making this difficult in a well meaning way but one that's going to put us all at risk.

PhoneTwattery · 23/03/2020 19:20

Expected: Up to 50
Actual: 15
Returning Tomorrow: 3-4

All socially distanced.

Far too many staff in but we didn’t know what to expect.

Driving back saw more kids out playing than we ever see...

Just waiting on BoJo’s statement now!

Well done everyone!

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 19:22

@theduchessstill I think cooking is a really tricky one- as you say it will be difficult to sanitize everything and could cause cross contamination. But it is a nice thing for children to be able to do.

Are they able to stay socially distanced whilst cooking and not share any equipment, including ovens?

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 19:24

I just watched some news footage from aa sweet little primary school... however, they were playing football (no...) and netball (also no...) while passing the ball around from hand to ungloved hand (no......).

This is what happens when you put teachers in charge of this with no real information, training or guidance.

Rosie2000 · 23/03/2020 19:34

We had 20 in, large secondary (1500)- there was lots of phone calls made over weekend and today to determine if they really had to be at school. One work station, the same pen, pencil etc. the same staff to work with the same team of kids, 3 days in school then two weeks off. I’m on the rota in the Easter hols. No going into school unless you are on rota. No ball games, no contact and parents told that children will be sent home if they don’t obey social distancing. All staff not in rota working from home.

exLtEveDallas · 23/03/2020 19:34

Expected 34, got 15 but numbers will fluctuate over the week. Youngest was 3, oldest 11.

I had loads to do but most annoying thing was setting up the DfE database/return (40 minutes for it to load, I hope that’s not the case every day 😱)

Kids have had great fun. Spent most of the day outside doing sports and in Forest School.

Blueemeraldagain · 23/03/2020 19:41

The cooking at my school was only 2 students in a kitchen with 8 kitchen units. Everything went through the dishwasher and there was no food sharing under any circumstances. Cleaners scrubbed down at the end of the day.
I wonder how long it will be until someone suggests allowing a student to bring in a games console....

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 19:43

Rosie , sounds like your school has got its rules right!

FeltCarrot · 23/03/2020 19:44

4 staff in today, working in the office calling parents of key workers, CP and pupil premium.
Expecting 25-30 children tomorrow out of 250.
I am a TA and will be office based for the next 2 weeks as we are struggling with staffing. After that, probably back in the classroom. Will be expected to be available over Easter.
Those of you with only a few children in, are you expecting to be deployed elsewhere?

BelleSausage · 23/03/2020 19:47

We had 12 out of a school of 1500. But secondary so 9-13 can be expected not to need babysitting.

Our rota comes out weekly so no idea if I’ll be needed. At this rate they could run the whole school with two staff.

Chocadoddledoo · 23/03/2020 20:02

Can I ask if staff are using PPE? We've been told it's highly likely that we will get the virus, we are advised to follow the hand washing advice, just wondering what precautions others are taking.

paperdreams16 · 23/03/2020 20:26

We had 10, expected 60.

On a one week on, one week off rota now.

hen10 · 23/03/2020 21:17

We had 25 in, they all had a lovely time, we're exhausted with the constant social distancing and hand washing reminders (and Joe Wicks at 9am wiped us out before we started!). Days usually speed past but this one seemed to last forever. Onwards and upwards.

CallmeAngelina · 23/03/2020 21:47

We've been asked to pick two out of the next four weeks to cover, and then we've been put on a rota, one day each (in teams of 3) to cover the 8 or so kids in each Key Stage/Foundation. Mind you, those numbers might decrease tomorrow (my day).

The thing is, we have NO training or information about proper sanitisation procedures. I want to do the right thing, but apart from common sense, I may well end up committing some major Health & Safety sin.

CallmeAngelina · 23/03/2020 21:48

Do you have to do Joe Wicks live?
We might not be done with hand washing by 9am!

1066vegan · 23/03/2020 23:06

I had 11 in my class today. That was from a total of 90 that would have been in the year group normally. Most year groups had between 9 and 12 children (out of 90) although one year only had 5.

Constant hand washing - when they come in in the morning, when they come back into the building after break and lunchtime, everytime they touch their face.

We used the computer suite a lot so anti bac spray on keyboards and mice before the next group went in.

On the plus side, with Joe Wickes every morning and PE every afternoon we are going to be so fit by the end of this. Plus I can't remember the last time I had a proper lunchbreak and left school so early at the end of the day.

1066vegan · 23/03/2020 23:10

@CallmeAngelina Joe Wickes is live at 9 but stays up on his YouTube channel so you can start it at any time.
