Well, here we go!

Happy to do my bit but not exactly looking forward to tomorrow.

For anyone who is interested I'll report back here tomorrow with numbers of students, numbers of staff and generally how the day went in terms of activities and behaviour.

Good luck everyone!

My primary has 8 children in, we were expecting around 20. All staff who are available are on a 3 week rota. I'm not due until next week! As I only work very part time I've not got any tasks as yet, but may pick up something via email later.
At a colleague's school, all staff were told to attend for today and tomorrow but they were only expecting 20 kids. Only 5 have shown up.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 11:47

Dh's school tried to arrange a full staff meeting and training this morning. Someone must have kicked up a stink because it was all cancelled and they are all now working from home.

Not that my DH has laptop/PC to do this on...

FeelingCrap54 · 23/03/2020 11:54

I am now on a part time timetable but ready and available to go in if needed.

I'm not due in until Friday this week as we only have 17 children in school (we are a special school).

In the meantime I'm practicing social distancing so I am available for Friday.

FeelingCrap54 · 23/03/2020 11:59

@rainydogday

I am more than happy to be supporting children of frontline NHS staff. They are all going to be made very welcome in my school no matter what. We have a whole range of fun things lined up so they can relax and enjoy their time.

Painting
Bug hunts
Birdwatching
Jigsaws
Games
Swimming (we have our own pool) .
Films
iPads and computer games

It's all going to be about fun and not education. If the children learn from the fun that's a bonus but the goal is that they enjoy their time.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/03/2020 12:01

We've no need for this as I'm a SAHM but can I just say a massive thank you ... you do a great job during normal times but what's being asked of you now ...you're all bloody amazing Thanks

I'm itching to walk to local primary where DD was until this year and take a box of biscuits or tray of cupcakes but can't due to social distancing, can I? I just want to show some suppport Sad

ValancyRedfern · 23/03/2020 12:38

Only 13 children in for a secondary school of 1300. Much less than I expected and mainly Sen and vulnerable children. I'm guessing a lot of parents have left kids at home alone. I hope they can be trusted to stay in and aren't all out with their mates!

BecauseReasons · 23/03/2020 12:41

No kids in. At all. 3 form entry school, oversubscribed.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 12:42

Sorry to be a bit precious crap but how on earth are you going to sanitise all that stuff !! Shock

crazycatgal · 23/03/2020 13:02

Been sent home - we're on a rota now doing 1 day a week.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 13:04

Our head has sent an email instructing no one to come in unless they are specifically on a rota and to observe social distancing at all times.

dfE and Unions have been busy last night I assume.

CallmeAngelina · 23/03/2020 13:07

Yeah, it's my turn on the rota tomorrow (8 KS2 kids).
Everytime I think I something to do with them, I then realise it will involve close contact or sharing equipment.
Any ideas, people?

FeelingCrap54 · 23/03/2020 13:10

It will all involve sharing equipment. All we can do is sanitise as much as possible,

Yes I get that it’s not going to be perfect but we have to find a balance somehow.

CallmeAngelina · 23/03/2020 13:15

I read somewhere (on here?) about setting up individual stations with a laptop, pen, pencil and ruler etc.. That's a start, I suppose - to at least minimise some sharing. If I only have 8 in the room, that should be easy enough.
But playing board games? I suppose if they wash their hands thoroughly and sit a reasonable distance apart....?

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 13:28

OMG ... DS went on a socially distanced walk round our estate and kids from the local primary school were playing football, rolling around, celebrating goals etc....

Gob is smacked

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 13:45

Just had a chat with the head of said school.

they have 130 kids there today.

Poor man sounded broken.

crazycatgal · 23/03/2020 13:48

We have labelled up pencils, whiteboards, pens etc and put them in an individual pack for each child.

VashtaNerada · 23/03/2020 13:53

Was due in later this week but just been told not to come back at all as we have so few children. Totally understand the reasoning but I feel utterly heartbroken. Being at school with the children was the only thing keeping me sane Sad Of course it’s best we’re all safe and well but the thought of potentially being off work till September is just devastating. I didn’t become a teacher to create resources at home SadSadSad

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 13:57

Why is there such variation? Am not in London and there are 130 kids at the village primary...

Sureitllbegrand · 23/03/2020 13:58

We had 10 and a very sensible head teacher. Rota sorted and in every two weeks.

starrynight19 · 23/03/2020 14:29

130 children wow they cannot all be needed surely the head has to look into that.

We have 14 in primary school. We have now all gone on a rota to cover. Anyone with primary age kids doesn’t need to go on at all or if vulnerable themselves or immediate family.

Two other friends and one has 6 in that’s a secondary and the other 10 in a primary.

VashtaNerada · 23/03/2020 14:30

Do some villages have everyone working at the local hospital or something? It seems very strange that some schools have so many. Or are Heads not being very good at turning away children who shouldn’t be in? Ours is two form entry and we only have ten children in from nursery to Y6!

PhysaliaPhysalis · 23/03/2020 14:34

4 in today.

The catering company (small school, no kitchen) have made packed lunches, which seems sensible given we need an easy way to hand over FSM.

Nice day, so the children were mostly outside. They've done some of their home learning and craft type activities as well.

Vagndidit · 23/03/2020 14:34

We had 24, but numbers meant to fluctuate all week. Our head hasn't really worked out a rota yet but let's just say, we had about 1 staff member for every 2 children. So unnecessary.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 14:35

I am in an area with a lot of public sector workers and the school serves a large village. it's a split site school normally and all the kids are on one site. But the school only even goes up to year 4.

There were quite a lot of women on Facebook yesterday discussing opening times, after school club etc. Some of the kids in question I think were EHCP who would be 'climbing the walls' if they didn't go . At least 4 of the women had SAHM as their job role and one had cleaner at a local large closed for business leisure park. Those could be out of date statuses of course.

I don't get it at all.

Blueemeraldagain · 23/03/2020 14:40

I teach in an SEMH secondary school. We had 6 out of approx 55 today. We did literacy and numeracy intervention, food tech, art, PE (badminton and table tennis). 3 of the 6 are in year 10 so there will be a focus on their non-core coursework at the moment.
