Any ideas for a very easy, very cheap book day costume for me? Curve ball is that it is parents evening the same day so costume will need to be easily removed (no make up/crazy hair!)

stripy red jumper/tshirt, skirt and tights and then bobble hat with glasses will make you where's wally

black dress, tights, red ribbon tied into a bow in your hair will make you matilda

Teachers dressing up - perish the thought. I can imagine the reaction our head would get if she suggested this Hmm Hmm

caulkheaded · 11/02/2020 18:07

Watching with interest - we also have this at my new school. It’s encouraged departments do themes too.

Long black dress, black cardigan, black boots, black tights. Scrape hair back into a tight bun. Don black witch hat. Become Miss Hardbroom from The Worst Witch. It's my go-to every year.

PristineCondition · 11/02/2020 18:13

charlottes web

Check shirt, plastic spider and a pig teddy

BrigitsBigKnickers · 11/02/2020 19:35

White shirt, black skirt and a pinny. Tray with a few cups stuck on. Miss wobble the waitress( I also put an L plate on my back when I did this once.)

longsigh · 11/02/2020 20:16

Old fashioned dressing gown, bunches and slippers- Matilda

ValancyRedfern · 19/02/2020 16:26

Bring a cuddly toy - it's your Daemon and your anyone from Northern Lights. That's my plan for this year!

Chochito · 19/02/2020 17:24

Something sustainable, nothing that ends up in the bin after 8 hours' wear. (Same for students).

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 19/02/2020 17:31

We've done black and white striped top/black trousers and black mask to be Burglar Bill. Carry a stack of books for Matilda. Or try to dress as Miss Trunchbull and keep your stern look ready for parents evening!

I once went as Baboushka (I read the story the day before) - headscarf, pinny, shawl and a basket of toys - the children asked me why I hadn't dressed up Confused.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 19/02/2020 17:45

I am being the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. We are quite serious at my school as the parents give a bottle of champagne to the best teacher costume! I have won once.

namechangedyetagain · 19/02/2020 17:49

Dread WBD with its imposed themes. This year is "magic". Have no money or inclination to dress up. School will be full of Harry Potter and Elsa characters. I do need to get something sorted I suppose.

fruitpastille · 19/02/2020 18:01

It's always on my day off but I've considered Katniss from the hunger games. Black clothes and boots, leather jacket, hair in a plait, toy bow and arrows. You could buy a mockingjay brooch to complete the look.

Or for younger children - take a bucketful of dinosaurs.

fruitpastille · 19/02/2020 18:03

For magic I would probably do Mildred Hubble as I have the hair and a black pinafore already.

SouthWestmom · 19/02/2020 18:05

Primary or secondary?

PotteringAlong · 19/02/2020 18:08

Normal clothes, carry a notebook. Harriet the spy

namechangedyetagain · 19/02/2020 18:23

Primary. I did see a black denim pinafore on offer in the Asda magazine - but at a fat 48 I fear I'm too old!!!

I do have fairy wings and a wand in my teaching box 😉

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 19/02/2020 18:27

Alex from A Clockwork Orange. White decorator's suit, foam padded baseball bat, remove the eye makeup before parents' eve!

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 19/02/2020 18:28

Oh hang on, primary! Maybe not then!

tararabumdeay · 19/02/2020 18:31

Miss Havisham.

SouthWestmom · 19/02/2020 18:33

I did this for dc one year was v easy.

Black clothes and red bow tie and red shoes (or just bows) made TH hat out of cardboard and used red thick craft tape to make stripes but you could paint or use felt tip. Easily discarded later.

Black cardigan white T-shirt black jeans

May steal the Miss Hardbroom idea - although I don't feel it, I am 56 and have done Gangsta Granny already, despite my utter lack of respect for Walliams as a writer. Far too old for Matilda and far too vain for Trunchbull. Can I be off that day please?
