What would happen in your school if a child screamed in your face?

A year 8 boy walked out of a homework detention with me. I caught him outside the pastoral room and shouted at him to get in and sit down. He turned round, put his face about ten inches from mine and screamed at me. I honestly thought he was going to attack me.

What would happen in your school if a pupil did this? Interested in the punishment for the child, as well as the reaction from management and colleagues.

In my school (private) it would depend who you reported it to. Some HoY would take it really seriously, some would try to brush it under the carpet and so you have to go over their head. SLT would all consider it an internal exclusion.

And of course shouting to a student down a corridor is no where near the same thing as shouting in someone's face.

We do pupils no favours whatsoever if we allow behaviour to go unchecked on the off chance they are having a tough time at home. The real world will not be so accommodating, and part of our responsibility is to teach them how to behave even after they leave us.

I’m feeling for you this evening OP. Don’t take any of the twattish comments on here to heart. Look after yourself and do what you need to do to get through. Record all and every incident (if there are more) and email slt cc’ing everyone under the sun (form tutor, HOY, HOD etc) and then leave them to it. If it’s not picked up, that’s not your problem. Resist any suggestion you need to do more -that’s beyond your pay grade. Good luck.
