What do teachers actually want as an end of year gift?

Just that really. Dd's male teacher, year 1, has been fantastic and gifts seem to be the done thing at the school.
He gave all the class a Christmas gift and I sent a voucher for Costa from DD.
What would you genuinely appreciate, am thinking probably not another best teacher coaster with a picture of an apple.

Sorry all - the framed photo of my child thing was just my idea of a little joke as I'm sure most teachers couldn't think of a worse present!

elQuintoConyo · 26/06/2018 21:16

6Yo just made a pop-up card for the teacher he has had for the past 3 years. And we emailed nice things about her to the head.

Then he cried over dinner because she wouldn't be his teacher again Sad

Verbena87 · 26/06/2018 21:17

Email to the head and a nice heartfelt note really do mean the world.

I’d feel like it was odd to have photos of my students in the house - vouchers for coffee & cake sound fab and I’d love a nice notebook with a message in. Wine is a dicey one as people have such varied taste.

mammmamia · 26/06/2018 21:18

Grin at the photo of your child - one poster is definitely joking about this but not sure about the other one Grin

OohOohMrPeevly · 26/06/2018 21:21

I think 3dogsandcounting is joking too.........

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 26/06/2018 21:23

LOL at the framed photo of child or family photo! That would get a good laugh in the staff room then end up in the bin.

I would definitely be happy with:
vouchers
nice wine
plant
Homemade/handwritten card with nice thank you

Not so much:
mug (have hundreds)
notebook (again have loads)
chocolates (so many boxes of Belgian chocolates....)
smellies (always get regifted)
candles (again regifted)
flowers (am generally away as soon as term ends)

My best gift was from one (particularly naughty) girl who gave me a bottle of prosecco and a giant bar of Cadbury’s dairy milk - perfect!

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 26/06/2018 21:25

Oh and I loved the maths t-shirt with a really cheesy maths joke on it that a group of kids bought me a few years ago (obvs I’m a Maths teacher). I wear it all the time!

Pinkprincess1978 · 26/06/2018 21:29

We often get the kids to decorate a white mug with sharpies then bake in the oven to set and fill it with sweets.

I've had teachers see me outside of school to thank me for the gift so think they like it! Cheap and cheerful.

3dogsandcounting · 26/06/2018 21:39

MrPeevly our work here is done. 😂 What about a joint photo next year 🤟🏼

OohOohMrPeevly · 26/06/2018 21:41

3dogsandcounting You're on!

FrameyMcFrame · 26/06/2018 21:46

The framed photo comment...

It was a joke guys Confused

Keeptrudging · 26/06/2018 22:19

I would love to get a Build-a-Bear puppy Blush

Skydiving · 26/06/2018 22:23

These posters that gave a framed photo of their child?
This made me laugh out loud! You are are joking aren’t you?

Skydiving · 26/06/2018 22:24

Ah phew I see that you were joking

PandaG · 26/06/2018 22:26

Glad you liked your T-shirt eastereggs - my DS and his further maths class all clubbed together for each of their maths teachers - maths geek jokes on mugs for a couple of them, signed by each of the class, a maths tie for the snappy dresser, a mathsy mouse mat for the teacher who had trouble with his mouse all year, and an engraved cake knife for the teacher who organised a cake rota and always had to scrap about to find a knife to cut them.

Ekatarzyna · 26/06/2018 22:40

I once got a near full sized painted stone duck. Seriously heavy.

But... it’s joined me through a number of house moves to live in its current place

BringOnTheScience · 26/06/2018 22:56

Best useful gift... a personalised desk note block. 'A note from Mrs Science.'

Close second... post it notes that said 'Mrs Science's To Do List'

Other fave ... floaty scarf (I do wear them) with a print that was relevant to a class joke.

Vouchers are lovely... and often spent on the classroom.

Yes to note to the Head saying how fab you are!

French2019 · 26/06/2018 22:56

My dd wrote a very sweet rhyming poem about her beloved year 6 teacher - it included all the things she loved about the teacher as well as some class "jokes" and particular memories of the year. She worked on it for weeks! We stuck it in a frame and the teacher seemed to love it. I hope her delight was genuine - it's an A+ for her acting skills if not!

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/06/2018 23:01

stationary
a hand written card
thermal mug (the rate that I go through them is stupid)

gillybeanz · 26/06/2018 23:02

For the kids to fuck off home Grin

Clayhead · 26/06/2018 23:03

I have received a framed photo of a child - several were given to different staff members. It was years ago but we still talk about it ShockConfused

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/06/2018 23:05

Slightly different on the framed photo front but I still have several framed photos of previous tutor groups.

millimat · 26/06/2018 23:12

Email to the head and chair of governors.
In schools were health and safety has gone mad, I think thermal mugs ( the ones with lids) would be appreciated. I'd like a good one!

RebeccaCloud9 · 26/06/2018 23:20

(Have to say I'm a little disappointed that was only a joke. Was hilarious!)

TuTru · 26/06/2018 23:27

Thank God the framed photo wasn’t fr. 😄
