and they all have consecutive interview dates in the last week of term! unlikely I'll get called to all but I reckon I'm strong for two, and I prefer the one with the slightly later interview date! What should I do if I get offered the first one - could I ask them to wait for one day, or is that a complete no-no? it's temp p-t, the second is perm f-t .... so stressful ....

Cross each bridge as you come to it.

guilianna · 10/05/2015 14:46

OK .....! good advice, thanks.

If first one calls and you are in second interview you could let them leave a message...but I would be tempted to be honest, explain you have aFT interview next day and would like day... Some will be miffed, others will appreciate the straightforward approach. Have you already visited schools? Got a feeling for them?

guilianna · 10/05/2015 20:38

I couldn't visit all but I interviewed at one ages ago, know one from cluster, another from a placement and I did visit the final one. For my current job I had same set up of concurrent interviews, and ended up cancelling the next day one.
On paper there are many advantages to staying where I am, but I have an urge to widen my experience and need a change. Nervous about it though!

Kathsmum · 12/05/2015 07:12

I would be open they can't argue about the benefits of better hours/contract. If the first really wants you they might offer more?
But ... Be prepared to say yes or no if you have to.

guilianna · 12/05/2015 19:34

I decided against first job, so bridges advice was right. Interview was more like you'd expect for a DH. I didn't want it enough! One down, 3 to go. Torn because I really like my class where I am.

OP posts:
guilianna · 18/05/2015 21:27

OK update
Didn't apply one
Turned down one at int stage
Leaving 3 and 4 both dream jobs!
Invited for interview for job 3 on Friday - yay! job 4, deadline tomorrow interviews Friday - more in my line of experience - what shall I do? I need to get it, whichever I go for!

Eeek, that's really hard! I don't know what you should do. Are they both local to you? Can you manage both if they'll shift times around?

I've got one wed and one thurs. I slightly preferred the Thursday school, but my goodness, their requirements for the interview day are utterly hideous and they only closed/ shortlisted today, so not a lot of notice to prepare!

I'm going all out for Wednesday. If I don't get it, I'll spend Wed evening (in misery) preparing for Thursday! I don't hold out much hope for thurs as the planned day is so, so hard! So desperately want to get the Wednesday one so I don't have to go through it!

Good luck with yours.

guilianna · 18/05/2015 22:40

They are both local, both great schools, be happy to work in either. The one that came today is an all day commitment (unless you screw up in which case you go at lunch). So I could in theory apply for the other one tomorrow and pray it's pm?! (it won't be) There's a lot to prepare too - I don't think I could do it justice, both in a day.
If I decline this interview I may not get shortlisted for the other one, which would be gutting! so I have to accept, and hope to goodness I can get it.
Hope your Wednesday one goes well! I don't know about you but I reckon interview demands are higher than ever atm. Good luck!

Asleeponasunbeam · 18/05/2015 22:45

Can you apply for tomorrow, wait to hear if you get shortlisted, then ring them both up to explain?

I agree it's unlikely they'll be accommodating. Really, really tough (and unrealistic, pointless and unecessary!) interview procedures going on at the moment.

I guess you'll have to go for the one you have most chance of getting. Most favourable outline of the day?

I just can't put my mind to the Thursday one, but know I won't do it justice Wednesday night! It's 3 things to prepare before the 'professional group discussion' and formal interview!

guilianna · 18/05/2015 22:56

hell on stilts, aren't they!
HT who's invited a bit alpha male, I can't see him liking his school having a rival! I'd quite like to see what's on the cards at job 4 though ...
'professional group discussion' reminds me of the PG tips ad with the chimps 'it's a board meeting' 'well I'm bored.'
Tired but wired, aren't you?

Asleeponasunbeam · 19/05/2015 06:33

Strangely, I slept okay. I won't tonight!
My lesson for Wednesday is ready but I'm not hugely confident about its clarity. I'll find someone to talk it through with today. Tonight I'll be planning for the interview itself.
Hard to prepare for the student panel!
And I haven't put a thought to Thursday yet. I'll pm you later, when I'm on a computer, with crazy details is that one!

guilianna · 19/05/2015 07:16

OK! the nerves have started here. Will plan today. Feel sick. Didn't expect to get shortlisted for this one - v pop school! so although I feel good to have got this far, to mess up on the day will be really disappointing as the more I find out about it the more I like it! and I do REALLY need a change

Good luck to you both. Watching with interest as OH has interviews on Wed and Thurs too. He wants the Thurs job. Hopefully Wednesday job won't make a decision on the day as they have set aside Wed and Fri for interviews. However, round here you'd be lucky to get a field of one for some jobs.

I worked at an outstanding state primary in a leafy village in the SE and they often had no applicants for jobs. On the last interview day 2 weeks ago, 3 were invited and no one turned up! I was Hobson's choice at my last interview. Closing date was on the Monday, I had the job by the Tues lunchtime! No daft interview day, just lesson ob (on any curricular area, but 30 mins long), interview with school council then interview with SLT. Offered job on the spot.

Asleeponasunbeam · 19/05/2015 21:43

breward, I live in the wrong place!

I'm not feeling at all confident today. Haven't prepared enough, not happy with my lesson, just not ready but too exhausted now to do any more.

Good luck guiliana.

guilianna · 19/05/2015 21:53

wow breward that's lucky! I'm expecting stiff competition here - I'd be made up if none materialised!
Hope your OH gets the Thurs job!
asleep you've just looked at it too much. Get some rest. It never comes to life til you are in front of them! Good luck tomorrow!
Am tired here too. Spent all afternoon planning a lesson I have no idea will work! plus there's a written task, what on earth could that be?! KS1

OP posts:
Asleeponasunbeam · 19/05/2015 22:00

My friend had to write a letter to a parent who was complaining about bullying, in a recent inquisition interview.

My lesson could be pitched way too high, be too 'young', too teacher led, too shit, I don't know! KS3 SEN.

Good luck to your DH too, brewster.

guilianna · 19/05/2015 22:05

Oh that'd be cake! compared with the face to face reality .... I don't think I've ever written to a parent as a primary teacher. Lots of ti
That's the thing isn't it - pitch. Without having met the kids it's an informed stab in the dark. I did a phonics obs recently with class same age and stage as mine, and they were utterly stumped!

Asleeponasunbeam · 19/05/2015 22:12

So hard to show yourself properly in a 30 minute lesson - like Ofsted I suppose, but at least that's with your own class!

In an ideal situation, there'd be opportunity to evaluate the lesson properly, and suggest improvements. However, this feels more like a pass/ fail audition!

guilianna · 19/05/2015 22:51

it feels like the x factor
go on, asleep - slay 'em!

OP posts:
Asleeponasunbeam · 19/05/2015 22:58

Waaaaaah, I don't think I'm up to it. Will try to sleep.

YOU CAN DO IT! Good luck!

OH got the job and is delighted. Field of two for Head of Dept in a core subject.

Hope your days, Asleep and guilianna, were as successful.

Asleeponasunbeam · 20/05/2015 18:08

Well done Brewster's OH.
I got mine too!
Now your turn, guiliana!

guilianna · 20/05/2015 19:57

Wow I came to check in and so delighted! congrats Brewster's oh and asleep! you must be over the moon (plus you can bin the Thursday one with it's tasks - sounds like a bullet dodged!) well done both
Now, do things really come in 3s ... mine's on Friday. I WANT it!
