Camilla may be perfectly happy with Ray Mill House and not want a Royal property. Perhaps an apartment in St James Palace as a bolt hole when she hs engagements in town.

It would depend I suppose on whether she intended to continue in public life, to whatever extent, or to retire into private life. If she continued in a public role, she would need staff and an office somewhere to put them in, and somewhere to host events connected to her interests.

Thank-you @BasiliskStare I think the origins of my way of thinking of people lie in the month I spent as a student working at Harrods in the sale and afterwards in the 1980s. The salesman I was attached to asked me to stay on after the sale, whilst he was on holiday. There were very few customers (furniture department) but high engagement from those there were. My now politically unsound classification, based on my observations, was: nouveau riche (demanding, greedy and indecisive), established wealth (comfortable with themselves, unfailingly courteous and reassuringly low-key), A word beginning with A that I will not repeat (I had bitten my lip when I looked up from my desk when hearing a male voice say 'Come' and the click of fingers, and realised I was being summoned by a man at the head of his all-female family, walking behind him in single file).

I too worked at Harrods sale on the late 80s. Happy memories. Children and babies. 😍

You’d have to wonder why he didn’t just evict them completely if they’re causing that level of mayhem??
Surely he doesn’t owe them anything at all?

I suspect he would like rid of them but doesn’t want to look the bad guy evicting them in their hour of need 🙄I suspect he’s slowly edging them out and this is the first step.

Eyes my inherited furniture proudly… dark brown Utility stuff from my parents and some reproduction Jacobean, er, horrors from pil..

DGM had utility, as well. It ended up being thrown when she went to Australia in the late 80s. God knows where the other stuff came from, it was all brown and none of it matched.

Over on X the new house has been revealed. No need for long faces. Nothing to be dour about.
Ian is still the perfect host. The secondary/guest house will provide lots of opportunities for Meghan’s instagram memories of historic England.

I knew someone who was a sales person at Harvey Nics. She had Diana as a customer a number of times and said she was an absolute dream to work with. Warm, fun and courteous.

Not so to other shop staff who had to deal with her. I think she was possibly a bit mercurial.

The poor Hamlets with the constant moves. Hope they have a calm and fabulous nanny.

BasiliskStare · Today 20:01

Oh Lordy - I am old enough to remember when Harrods actually had a pet shop. With rabbits. That's a long time ago. 😊(I didn't get a rabbit - we were visiting & it would not have been happy in a suitcase ) 🐰My pleas went unheeded . I went there 10 years ago and , back in the day it was a upmarket dept. store , not so much on that visit. I'd have to travel & I'm not sure I'd bother.

That struck me too. There are a lot of similar age kids in that family but unfortunately Hamlets can't be involved due to their awful parents

It will be extremely obvious at Christmas just how much the Hamlets are missing out on due to the horrific behaviour of their parents.

That sounds like a lovely trip for Harriet & Peter with the Wales. I'd imagine Catherine & Harriet would get on very well both appear so dignified & unassuming

I do wonder how HaM are going to explain things to A and L as they get older . It seems inevitable that Archie will start asking questions soon .

AlwaysRightISwear · Today 20:05

When Charles dies I suspect Camilla will happily retire into a mainly private life in Wiltshire. Maybe keeping one or two charity patronages that she is particularly close to.

I agree. Some awkward questions when they’re still primary age and some really tricky ones when they become teenagers. Brace yourselves, H and M.

BasiliskStare · Today 20:09

As others have said , H&M have a lot of money , maybe not however much they want but I do think a lot of people would not like to be beholden for free houses as much as they seem happy to be. But I suppose that's just a personal way of looking at things & people look at things differently.

Why are you all assuming KC3 will go first? Camilla is older and smoked and drank like a trooper for decades.

I was thinking “how exactly does one secure a billionaire benefactor?” But, then again… Like you, I’m not sure I’d really want one!

I wonder if they'll try to get Archie into Eton, on the assumption that Louis will go there. Archie is in the school year below Louis, so I suppose they'd have to start the process before they know for sure where Louis is going.

Of course they will ask. Especially considering it's the RF. No doubt HAM will make a cock of explaining it too. The best thing for their children would have been to apologise to the RF but no. Still demanding apologies and airing grievances

Yes I agree unless Camilla goes first - you just never know…
On a different subject I can’t imagine that anyone (RF &MIGS) in their right mind will give/loan a royal residence of any size to HaM - by default this would give them a quasi royal status which they would milk to the nth degree.

Oh no poor Louis - what a situation to be in.
It’s just the kind of thing scheming HaM would do too - it would be no picnic for A either.

Christopher Robin should have gone to Harrods:

I had a penny,
A bright new penny,
I took my penny
To the market square.
I wanted a rabbit,
A little brown rabbit,
And I looked for a rabbit
’Most everywhere.

.....But they hadn’t got a rabbit, not anywhere there.

Did H go to Eton? Didn't he hate it?
