It was interesting that they used Windsor Castle to introduce Archie to the world and I seem to recall it was timed so that it could be shown on Breakfast TV in the US .
Thanks for yet another thread @jeffgoldblum

They only lived in Frogmore cottage full time for around 6 months after £2.6 million was spent renovating it to their specifications. They moved in in April 2019 and in October 2019 they went on an extended holiday to a borrowed Russian oligarch's house in Canada and never returned to the UK to live.

A lot of the renovations they did are now being reversed, that was in the news recently.

Wasn’t there a copper bath?!

There's a description of them being invited to W&C for dinner and he says something like "Meg and I sat there, looking at the beautiful surroundings and thinking sheepishly of our IKEA lamps and sofa ordered on Megs credit card from sofa.com"

Horrible, bitter pair. Also so stupid, all they had to do was be patient and they knew that so much would come to them with time.

I expect the furniture was lovely inherited, period pieces but to Meghan may have looked "old"!

If ham and hamlets get a royal residence, it'll be an absolute disaster. No getting rid of them. And adult hamlets down the line. I hope the MIGs are on this

AlexandraCarrington · Today 17:07

HAM decided they wanted to live at Windsor Castle which the Queen refused

I remember reading somewhere that she was caught poking about in a part of the Castle she had no business being in.

Of course the Queen wouldn't want them under her own roof.

How did MM go straight to 100 with greed and entitlement. Presumably in Toronto she had to pay her own rent, her own clothes. I can understand the psychology behind someone's greed increasing as they get used to their new-found privilege and then they want more and more. But it doesn't seem like MM ever had a honeymoon period with the royal privilege. She was pretty much straight into property upgrades and 100k dresses?

I read the show she worked for payed her rent, but that she had to pay for it in the off season as she stayed in town the whole year.

Frogmore cottage was built as one house in 1801 for Queen Charlotte. Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna in exile from her native Russia after the Russian Revolution stayed there in the 1920s. It was subdivided into 5 apartments in the 20th century to be used as employee housing and then converted back to a single home for HAM in 2019

The absolute beauty of that glorious old house compared to that ghastly, soulless mcmansion they bought in the US is staggering.

Yes, in front of a huge oil painting and with the late Queen and Prince Philip. No hospital steps for her!
To add; deliberately concealing Archie. Not even a tiny hand or foot....

oooh a Royal Residence Renovations show would be so entertaining!

Not even true; they could have had paintings and ceramics from the Royal Collection, as W&C did, plus furniture from other houses and from storage. The Gloucesters were downsizing and the Hams were offered their large KP apartment, which they turned down. I'm sure furniture was available.
They were holding out for Windsor Castle.
What dishonest, greedy whingers.

I read they turned down the apt as it was too close to W and C. I don't think H had any interest in fancy furniture, and it didn't occur to him to be upset about it until M came along telling him his place was like a frathouse.

Yes, which had been good enough for W&C and where they managed to live with baby George.

Apparently they wanted the actual castle . W&K could have ugly old Buckingham Palace and they would have Windsor Castle to ponce about in - v impressive for hosting new A-list pals and nice and convenient for Heathrow. Win-win - or rather lose-lose when this plan was presented to HMQ.

It’s another instance of H’s poor judgement about people’s characters. He was sure he was his Gran’s favourite but hadn’t grasped that, for QE2, preserving the institution of monarchy trumped her personal feelings. I bet he was stunned!

thenightsky · Today 17:22

I'm surprised they turned down apartment 1, Kensington Palace. Would have thought they'd jump at the Diana adjacency.

Going back to the discussion on the previous thread about H&M moving from the Big House to another property on IW's estate . . .

I wrote that I thought this had been caused by issues between H&M and staff at the Big House and they have probably been moved to an unstaffed property. Their previous history of treating staff badly makes me wonder if IW has moved them so he can retain the staff at the Big House who may have been threatening to leave (this is purely speculation on my part)

If my theory is correct H&M really are in the position of "beggars can't be choosers". They've already been heavily criticised (& rightly so) for moving the children from one school to another and I would hope their childrens' welfare is right at the top of their list of priorities

So to enable the Hamlets to stay at the new school H&M are now in a smaller house (presumably) and they may have issues with finding staff. Their reputation for how they treat staff is appalling so it makes me wonder if they are now having to fend for themselves. At least this would give them something to do but I can't imagine it would be something they ever expected to do

You’d have to wonder why he didn’t just evict them completely if they’re causing that level of mayhem??
Surely he doesn’t owe them anything at all?

They had been earmarked to move into Flat 1 Kensington Palace - a 21 room apartment next door to 1A where W&C live. Renovations started the year they got married,

However HAM decided they wanted to live at Windsor Castle which the Queen refused and offered then Frogmore - although many people think Meghan thought she was getting Frogmore House and not Frogmore cottage

I wonder if they are angling for the now vacant Royal Lodge? Not that William would agree

I seem to remember it was said somewhere that Camilla is going to move into Royal Lodge after Charles is gone, but she has her own house so I'm not sure why she would want to do that ...

There's always this one ..
Princess Diana’s grandmother’s former home for sale at £1.95m - after £300,000 price cut - Local Free News https://share.google/GvnxwPlIIX4wtH2gO

That seems like a very low price?

I don't think she would move there either. I think, if she was widowed, she would be able to retain Clarence House as a London residence and she has her own much-loved house in the Wiltshire countryside

There have been rumours about Royal Lodge being totally renovated and being used for commercial purposes, perhaps a hotel and/or conference centre. That seems more likely.

One of my fellow volunteers today has a theory ( she has lots and sometimes she hits the mark!)
Wace wanted them out completely but let them stay on the estate because of the DC’s school .

It's also very near Anmer so maybe W&C need to snap it up, just in case!
