Well apparently this story isn’t going anywhere!

OP posts:

But then she would have revealed that she knew about the allegations, think how exposed that would have left her to two people who hate her and would do anything to bring her down.

I get that she didn’t want to open that channel, I just don’t understand how she thought she could keep this contained. It should have gone straight to the top, so that the full BP machinery could engage.

She said in her 2025 letter to her dad, "I know you abuse young girls"..
Was she not afraid that would scupper the investigation or give TM time to scrap evidence. Nothing makes sense.

As if… MM wanted the whole thing to go away! Can you imagine this story at the time?

She could have opened up on Oprah when she had left the royal family... instead it was easier to use Catherine's lip gloss & Charlotte's tights to play victim.
Her Oprah interview was preposterous given what she knew in reality.

The books, maybe, although not illegal to own per se.

As regards CSA, not necessarily any evidence of that, is there. Some photos of young- looking females are not necessarily proof of CSA. And the Met probably just told M that they would "look into it" which has been interpreted as "investigate". They probably "looked into it" and decided it was just the hearsay ramblings of a drunken embittered ex-wife trying to stir up trouble. I think the main reason for any IOPC investigation is that they allegedly passed the letter to M at all. And she presumably said "can I keep this?"

Well that’s not what the IOPC concluded in their announcement yesterday:

Following a voluntary conduct referral from the Met Police, we have decided an independent investigation is required into its failure to pass on allegations of serious offending, contained in a letter it received in 2019, to relevant overseas authorities at the time.

It wasn’t for the Met to investigate allegations of serious offending in other jurisdictions. It was their obligation simply to pass it on to relevant LE.

They failed to do that and an independent investigation is underway to find out why they chose not to carry out their obligations at that time.

bluegreygreen · Today 10:00

Voolio · Today 09:15

But the IOPC yesterday announced that following their review the Met were obligated to pass that letter on at the time - and the Met are doing that now. The IOPC have also requested a further independent investigation as to WHY the Met failed in their obligations which required them to pass that letter on to appropriate LE overseas.

No, that's not how it works.

The IOPS reviews the referral, in this case a voluntary referral, and decides what form of investigation (if any) is required.

It has announced, in its statement, the type of investigation. It has not carried out any investigation.

Thanks for the thread @jeffgoldblum Great title.
I've given up trying to keep up and am now officially a plopper. Drop in and disappear into the ether.

Anyway, for those who are bored of the murky marvels I have a diversion, totally unrelated to H&M - sorry - derail alert, but I know @DaisyDooley will appreciate, and I can't find her Royal Jewellery thread.

Swedish royals (or maybe royal adjacents in possession of heirlooms?) are selling off the bling and the King Carl Gustav isn't happy apparently.

His late sister Princess Birgitta’s jewelry, including a famous necklace that once belonged to their mother, is up for sale.

"Allegations" is the key word - and apparently the age of consent in the Phillipines was 12 at this point and this was something he said at the time, probably during an argument and possibly with a hint of sarcasm, so taken out of context. Maybe.

So who was investigating Meghan's very serious claim in her 2025 letter about her knowing TM abuses young girls?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Today 10:05

There’s even a thread of some desperation now on here (‘when did the rf know what and when’) giving chapter and verse on the script the sussex squad are trying to use to counter Meg’s massive PR cock-up.

"Must have known"
"If"

Being used to make conjecture look like fact by the usual suspects because let's not admit that we don't actually know what happened or didn't happen, or who knew and who didn't know, but anything to throw shade on the RF.

ImaPrinceImaPrinceanddonchaforgetit · Today 10:07

I have tracked down the auction of Royal and Noble jewels which will take place on November 11th.

Just incase @DaisyDooley has some spare cash.

I have spotted a couple of modest items with appeal for my modest needs and would like to point out it is my birthday next week. Just some rather lovely earrings. Lot 1024 or 1036 please. Though I also like the pearl ones similar to those that various royal ladies wear 1033 but they are considerably more expensive than my more modest choices.😉

There was a post on SM yesterday where one of the royal reporters (Sykes?) said Meghan had passed “the letter she cited” to The Telegraph.

It didn’t state which letter so I presumed a copy of the one she sent to her newly one legged dad in 2025. I don’t think she would be silly enough to give them the 2018/2019 Loveless letter. Not with a potential privacy data breech already in the mix.

But if there is information co-operation between MM and the Telegraph that might inform how they report on stories pertaining to this whole sorry mess.

I hope the IOPC will be all over this behaviour from HaM and certain journalists in terms of any influence it had on effective policing and the handling of sensitive personal data. I said a couple of threads ago that I felt the DPA / GDPR might have been breached by M carting this letter to the US and back in her personal stash of documents and using it at will. Again, we see her pompous behaviour may bite her on the bum.

It should have gone straight to the top, so that the full BP machinery could engage.

Maybe it did.

Samantha Cohen had just come, after 2 decades, from being Private Secretary to QE2 where she would have been immersed in the relentless and escalating AMW crisis which was at a particular peak in 2018/2019 when the Miami Herald in Nov 18 did an expose into the scale and reach of Epsteins sexual abuse and trafficking of young girls which led to his arrest and threw the spotlight back on AMW - so much so that BP supported his delusional and disastrous News Night interview in 2019.

Samantha Cohen was H&M’s Private Sec when this letter dropped into their office in the height of AMW mess - I think it’s likely she passed this to senior royal officials already in the trenches with AMW issue as at least an FYI.

diddl · Today 10:14

They did act. They treated the letter in the way it deserved. It was passed on to the Sussex office for their awareness, but somewhere along the line there may have been a data breach. It would be interesting to know if that had anything to do with Meghan.

The letter was supposedly intended to warn the Met about security risks to Meghan, but it contained no real information on this. There appears to have been some unsubstantiated hearsay about Thomas Markle, but nothing specific and nothing clearly illegal. From what I can tell, it doesn't refer to any specific incident that could be investigated. The letter was apparently from his embittered ex-wife and appears to have been 6-7 handwritten pages of waffle and ranting. Check out the interview she did with the Mirror a couple of months later for a taste, although she says nothing about CSA in it.

My point was what is it to do with staff when those in a position to act didn't?

KilkennyCats · Today 10:16

JoanChitty · Today 03:22

Poor Meghan, she really can’t get a break at the moment. Her lifestyle show nominated for a daytime Emmy, has been beaten by a programme about competitive canine games called A Different Breed. Tbf it was probably more interesting than watching someone who can’t cook.

God, was it?? Oh dear…

bluegreygreen · Today 10:25

Dontevenlookatme · Today 09:37

Thank you. I didn’t realise there were livestreams or on demand images involved. I assumed stock material previously created. Still unspeakably grim but naively I imagined historic.

I haven't seen that reported, and don't see how anyone other than forensic teams could know that amount of detail.

The information that is available about the material found is here, if you want to read it - 2 archive DM links. The first reports TMjr's find, the second this week's find in Mexico.

Surely each and every incident reported to police is an allegation until it’s investigated and tried in a court of law?

In this situation any investigation of those specific allegations were thwarted due to the failure of the Met to pass on the information to the appropriate LE agencies.

readbutdonotpostoften · Today 10:27

Voolio · Today 08:04

It is indeed. They didn’t fulfil their obligations to pass it on to the appropriate overseas jurisdictions at the time so they are now doing that.

In addition the IOPC have requested an independent enquiry to determine why they failed to do this. We will have to wait for this to conclude to understand if there was any pressure from anyone outside of the Met to bury it, dismiss it etc.

I posted something similar yesterday about the statistics of how many letters the Met receive it year about the RF, so I can add to it now, of the total number of letters received, how many do they pass on to other countries?

For all we know, there may be thousands of letters received by the Met with various accusations, how many do they deem a serious threat? I expect they did in 2018/9 receive many such letters and probably still do now, for each one they will make a decision as to do nothing, pass on to the RF offices and/or pass on to others whether abroad or in the UK.

The Met have referred themselves to the IOPC, exactly for the reason Meghan made a statement therefore it is a high profile case and individual, but that does not mean they acted incorrectly, that is for the IOPC to decide, not the media or Meghan.

TearsAtTannhauserGate · Today 10:28

Kingzandqueens · Today 08:27

She didn't have children when she received the letter so she could have taken a major stand then or even gone & confronted the dad & the ex wife about the content of the letter
If it were me I would have left no stone unturned if my father was accused of such awful acts.

Interesting isn’t it that in February 2019 she was in the US for her very naff high-end five days of conspicuous consumption (the ‘baby shower’) with influential ‘friends’ she could have confided in, such as human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and the very powerful, experienced Gail King. But Meg still did nothing? Said nothing? Didn’t even ask for some private advice in confidence?

I wondered previously why Markus was there. Was it to make sure she didn’t? Who even IS this guy and what is his influence on HaM?

Perhaps that was what she was trying to prompt, for him to be proactive in burying any evidence. Not to protect him of course, but her own reputation by association.

I've dipped in to have a look (thank you Jeff) - not much different to the last thread, we seem to going round in circles while waiting for the next juicy factoid.

ChaptGPT tells me:

"The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) typically takes around 6–12 months to complete an investigation, although more complicated cases can take considerably longer."

Hmm.. I think at That stage, yes there had been an original letter but clearly they all thought it was just another bonkers letter, they / the authorities must've received many. With no basis except trying to make money / cause problems. so .. it was checked out and put aside as nonsense. I really don't think she thought that her dad was a child abuser at that point. Surely not.

MM only referenced it recently as she mistakenly - inexplicably - thought it was a get out of jail card for the fact she'd cut her dad off in 2018 if not before, for other reasons.

Markus is an interesting character. If he ever writes a book… I sort of think of him in the same realm as Dave Gardner. He knows everything! About everybody…

The Met had had sight/possession of the letter & were in a position to act on it or not.

Isn't that the pertinent thing?

This is a thread about HAM PR disasters. So the pertinent thing to this thread is MM's appalling behaviour, from the time she got sight of that letter in 2018. Er, 2019.

Kingzandqueens · Today 10:40

SiegfriedSassoon · Today 10:32

Perhaps that was what she was trying to prompt, for him to be proactive in burying any evidence. Not to protect him of course, but her own reputation by association.

She has really made a dogs dinner of it.. so if she says she knew does that mean she got clarification or more information in 2025 since the original letter sent in 2019

And why directly write to Thomas Markle saying she knows rather than passing on her relevant knowledge to the Filipino authorities?
She is married to the King of England's son any information she gave world have been treated with the utmost seriousness.

It makes zero sense. She is a self styled activist & humanitarian & she writes a letter to an alleged abuser saying she knows he abuses girls instead of using her immense connections to have it stopped?
