Well apparently this story isn’t going anywhere!

"To what extent is it likely that if Meghan Markle's ambition is to deal a fatal blow to the British Royal family "

this quote from the last thread . I apologise I can't remember the poster. I do think H&M thought they were throwing a grenade into the BRF and it's turned out to be a roman candle or a few sparklers.

I'm reluctant to comment on the whole TM TMjr debacle because I don't know what legal things are happening.

I would say the Met aren't above cticism but in this matter they have referred themselves for review , so I'll wait for that.

Hey ho - from a PR perspective I think M and H should have said nothing from the get go & said - private family matter. The quick response I think just created more speculation.

I do sometimes wonder how they oftentimes seem to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory , or whatever the saying is. Some years ago they did seem to have a very great deal going for them. Nowadays , I'd say , not so much.

Just having a kind of “Sliding Doors” musing. I wonder what these threads, and the press commentary, would have been like if M hadn’t released that quick-fire statement a week ago. Would we have even known about the existence of this letter that’s thrown out so many different tendrils of comment and observation? That one little paragraph has ensured everything has gone from a snowball to an avalanche very quickly.

Also, as each little incident via HaM goes out in the media (am talking over the last few years), the less they get defended - on here, at least. The support is nowhere near as vocal as it was when I was last dipping into the board (release of Spare). And it’s dropped even more since their reverse ferret flight. It must be exponentially hard to try to find coherent ways of defending everything. On the flip side, I think we’ll see efforts put into threads aimed at the WRF instead - easier to find ways to dig at them rather than form good arguments to defend HaM.

I wonder what these threads, and the press commentary, would have been like if M hadn’t released that quick-fire statement a week ago.

I've said all along that if M had kept her pie hole shut, this would be, maybe not a tempest in a teacup, but possibly a nine days wonder.

She could have waited a few days after the story broke and then issued a simple statement saying she is "'dismayed and upset' about the allegations against her father, but would have no further comment until the relevant authorities had completed all investigations". Then once everything has been investigated and whatever was going to happen happens re any crimes committed by her father, deal with the 'fallout' then. I have a feeling if she'd done that, it's quite possible that we never even would have heard a word about The Letter. She could have kept to the 'I ended my relationship with my father due to his involvement with the tabloids' storyline and we probably would have been none the wiser.

Yep, total own goal.

Agree - the only reason anyone knows anything about a 2019 letter is because Meghan mentioned it.

The story about Thomas Markle would have continued, but at a relative distance, and Meghan could have continued with her other work, and probably with some sympathetic press for a while.

As far as this 'joint office' stuff, even if the letter was sent to a 'joint office' that doesn't necessarily follow that each letter was seen by both parties. It's quite possible that they even had separate staff handling their mail. So a letter comes addressed to the DssOS, gets routed to the staff handling Sussex mail and from there to MM herself. It's quite probable that the staff of the D&DoC never even saw the letter.

Musing on another subject, this has gotten so bad and so messy that I'm even more sure that the midnight flit was to get out of California before the shit hit the fan and hopefully under the 'protective wing' of the RF. MM (at least) knew that if she remained in CA she might very well be requested by the police or FBI for an interview and subject to a subpoena if she refused IF allegations were made that involved crimes in CA. And she would NOT have wanted that, if only for the publicity it would garner. There's always someone hanging around the PD and FBI offices looking for a scoop, and often someone inside who is willing to provide one. TBF as far as I know, there have been no allegations of crimes committed here by TMSr.

And I think that was the real reason for the meeting in July with KC. I doubt very much that KC was given the actual reason for wanting back in, but I do believe that the private conversation between KC and H was probably H begging and KC telling him politely to lie down on the bed HaM had made. And didn't M say she felt 'disrespected' not to be included in the private conversation? I'm sure the correct word is 'panicked' when she didn't get what she wanted, the inclusion in the RF and the PR machine that work for them

You seem to be saying that MM left Cali to avoid having to talk to the FBI over her dad's CSA stuff.

If they were able to sit hervdown for a chat on that issue, would they be able to go wider in their questioning?

Does anyone know if an Australian resident would be safe from the FBI?

Kingzandqueens · Yesterday 23:53

It's bizarre the attempts to try & implacate beyond Meghan, we are not even entirely sure if Harry knew & to what extent..
Thomas Markle never even got to meet his son in law never mind the wider family. Thomas is an American citizen living in America at the time.

The royal family are very wise to distance themselves, not their problem & besides Harry & Meghan are no longer part of the family.

It is a Sussex matter & a matter for the three Markle siblings. Meghan left the royal family not long after & she would have blown any cover up had their been one.

On the first quote, I’ve sometimes wondered if MM is secretly on the payroll of some dastardly character (there are a few running the show!) out to destroy the RF. Like she’s working for a Bond villain, if you know what I mean. So much of what they (she) do is absolutely batshit… It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that she’s an agent of chaos. Anyhoo…

They said they are going to California for Christmas could the FBI question her then?

Good point about the sudden interest in Australia. I think we now know why they had to get the hell out of Dodge so quickly..,

They are still part of the family. They just no longer represent them.

Again another example of the Sussexes making premature statements..

In all fairness for a pair of private individuals who are massively anxious & worried about their safety do they really need to let the world know where they are going to be?

In name only... they are estranged from most of them like they are with the Markles..

From what I’ve read, the FBI could question Meg (a US citizen) on UK soil with the co-operation of the local police and/or co-operation of the US embassy or attaché. She would have the right to remain silent, however.

I almost want to start writing the film script.

And by the way, with all this going on <waves hands> it may have escaped us that Invictus tickets are now on sale. 🤨

Recall the 2022 interview with The Cut? It ended with a mysterious quote about saying things / not saying things, no NDA, etc... it's behind a paywall now, would be curious to read that again in light of new context.

StartupRepair · Today 02:30

In 2018/19 there would have been a lot of nasty and frankly unhinged mail flying into the Sussex office. Among this, a letter from the estranged ex-wife for Meghan's father saying that he talked about committing hideous deeds in other countries at an unspecified time is not really evidence of anything. The Met could have handed it on to the Mexican police. I doubt it would have gone anywhere much.

Mondommountain · Today 03:10

Meghan totally botched that statement, pompously announcing she knew about the allegations against her father for years, and predominantly using it to berate those who had criticised her for being estranged from him. She seems to have firmly believed she could leverage that to portray herself positively.

i think this has to be the ultimate PR Disaster for the Sussex’s, who would have thought , when the PR disaster threads started, their PR campaign would lead to this point.

JoanChitty · Today 03:22

Poor Meghan, she really can’t get a break at the moment. Her lifestyle show nominated for a daytime Emmy, has been beaten by a programme about competitive canine games called A Different Breed. Tbf it was probably more interesting than watching someone who can’t cook.

Tiddlywinks63 · Today 06:01

TearsAtTannhauserGate · Yesterday 23:26

The 10th July 2026 is certainly starting to seem like a spookily, coincidentally important date.

Tom Markle Jnr calls the FBI hotline about the Markle trove of evidence; and Harry, Meg, A and L meet the King at Highgrove for a private chat about something, that is followed shortly afterwards by a surprise return to England.

But even more strange is that M wasn’t allowed in on the meeting with the King and Queen and she made a very strong statement soon after about being humiliated and never returning to the UK. Then five minutes later they’re all back here for the foreseeable future.
I still think that there’s something far more serious and dire about to be revealed. Why would they make such an abrupt move? Surely not because of something that came to light years ago (as serious as this is)?

FancyKitten · Today 06:12

All she had to say was that she’s upset about the revelations. Then wait & see…

But I think Meghan didn’t want the papers going to town on her (can’t blame her, it’s not her crime). I do reckon she must have known this was about to break, that DM have a deal with TM. Her relationship with the Sun, not an overnight thing! As others have said what HAM needed was a top notch crisis PR.

I've dipped in to have a look (thank you Jeff) - not much different to the last thread, we seem to going round in circles while waiting for the next juicy factoid.

Yes, I think I'd rather watch dog games than a rich

No leap.

MM just issued a statement saying she knew about the letter and the allegations ir contained back in 2018.

Er, no, sorry, 2019.

And that she was told by the Met there was an investigation, so she should say nothing, so as not to compromise it.

The the-RF-might-have-known-too argument is irrelevant. Once HAM were free of the RF they could say - and didn't they, on any matter but this - what they wanted.

MM was phoning up senators - hi, it's the Duchess of Sussex here - while sat ne t to Gloria Steinem, but couldn't quietly ask the local FBI about the allegations concerning her dad.

But no, here's an article that seems to imply that people other than MM knew aboutbthat letter. So that lets MM off the hook.

No, it doesn't. MM is definitely on the hook.

There was a post on SM yesterday where one of the royal reporters (Sykes?) said Meghan had passed “the letter she cited” to The Telegraph.

It didn’t state which letter so I presumed a copy of the one she sent to her newly one legged dad in 2025. I don’t think she would be silly enough to give them the 2018/2019 Loveless letter. Not with a potential privacy data breech already in the mix.

But if there is information co-operation between MM and the Telegraph that might inform how they report on stories pertaining to this whole sorry mess.
