I said on last thread that I read in DM that HAM have letter so presumably that would have year on it..2018( as M) states or 2019 as MET states.

Boudy · Today 17:29

And thank you once again @jeffgoldblum

Boudy · Today 17:31

I also wonder why MET would not alert other police forces in other countries. I am sure they receive many strange letters but surely allegations of this nature warrant alerting others?

EmpressSisi · Today 17:35

Thanks for the new thread, Jeff!

I’m still completely baffled and gobsmacked by how badly Meghan handled the Thomas Markle allegations, and how spectacularly it’s backfired on her when the whole situation had absolutely nothing to do with her in the first place!

It would depend how reliable they thought the information was.

For example, if the allegations came in the middle of a ranting letter with other threats, from someone who had previously sent repeated letters, that would be less convincing ...

The department apparently receives up to 2000 letters a year.

Just putting a placemarking 🍎*

*qualifies as a 'P' fruit in French.

Don't know why I placemarked, by the time I get done doing my running round this thread will probably be full.

Thanks for the new thread @jeffgoldblum Have a lovely piece of tarte aux pommes 🥧 on me. With cheese, of course.

Good evening Jeff De La Blume!
Evening all! So it continues.....

Many thanks again, @jeffgoldblum Flowers

Thanks for the new thread !
Still digesting yesterday’s bombshell and really don’t know what to make of it.
Wonder if we will ever hear the full story - and whether we’ll know the truth when we do hear it ?

BigWillyLittleTodger · Today 18:58

Hello everyone 👋 thanks for the new thread Jeff, I’ve missed the vast majority of the last thread and as I’ve been out all day I have absolutely no idea what’s happening, can anyone give a quick summary of recent events? 🙏🏻

PullTheBricksDown · Today 19:02

Evening all! I don't think any of us expected the events of the last 24 hours.

It's a side point but this 2000 letters a year the Fixated People unit receives - is that just traditional, hard copy letters (which seem to be the Markles' primary mode of communication) or electronic ones too? I would expect a lot of these things to be email or other online messaging now.

I think is an important point. If the letter was a ranting list of accusations and threats it would be much less convincing than a clear statement with times, places etc. I can imagine the Fixated Peopled unit see plenty of the former kind. What would people expect them to do with such letters?

ETA I am guessing that what kind of action would be taken would depend not only on the type of letter but also the identity of the sender if known.

Mossyfox · Today 19:13

I don't think anybody expected this at this time. I wonder if it has anything to do with them choosing to be back in the UK. There's some hidden agenda I'm sure but I've no idea what it is.

If it was just a ranting list of accusations and threats then why would Meghan believe what it said? Surely she would need some kind of proof - or at least some more substantial source of suspicion - before she accepted such a dreadful thing about her father?

Seconded, BigWilly. I’m feeling like a Bear of Little Brain about all this - I missed the main event and things on here have moved at the speed of light!

Well she has only now said anything so perhaps she didn't know what to make of the accusations but has commented now that more is becoming public.

Exactly! It only makes sense if she had had her suspicions in the past. Even then, it doesn’t explain why she said she was a daddy’s girl in the NF series in 2022 and blamed the media for destroying their relationship.

SiegfriedSassoon · Today 19:29

I do wonder what next week will bring. Never a dull moment in HaMland.

Cairneyes · Today 19:44

Perhaps I’m being thick, but how did The Sun see the letter? Surely Meghan didn’t share it with them- and a few other newspapers too!

Heyelpheyelp · Today 19:45

meercat23 · Today 19:24

Well she has only now said anything so perhaps she didn't know what to make of the accusations but has commented now that more is becoming public.

But she said that she kept her children away from her father to protect them after what she learned about him in 2018.
So by her own admission she did believe the accusations - or at the very least she suspected they were true.
