Poor Harry. As if his week hasn’t been bad enough he has now had to watch his brother appearing on the best talk show , holding his own, looking comfortable and relaxed, keeping up with the banter, making half decent jokes, telling stories against himself with humour.

Makes Harry’s attempt at tv chatting seem even more uncomfortable.

“Call me William” versus “I am a prince.”

I always think William comes across extremely well. He’s understated, natural and just funny enough. He strikes the balance perfectly without seeming to try too hard. Honestly, I think this is part of the reason Meghan struggles to win people over. There’s a sense that she’s always performing, whereas William comes across as entirely at ease with himself. I genuinely think someone in her camp should show her a few clips of William and explain that sometimes, less really is more. I do appreciate though William has been groomed his whole life for this role though. Meghan has not.

Still think William is work shy but he is extremely likeable and a massive asset to the RF. They would be screwed without him

Edited

I think it's easy enough to come across as relaxed and personable when all your background research has been done for you, interview questions and answers have been prepared in advance and your proposed interviewers are wearing kid gloves.

I'd like to see W face someone like Emily Maitlis who might be prepared to do a bit more digging into the uncomfortable.

It'd be interesting to see what he had to say about the donation to ES from the torture video enthusiast, the donation to WildAid (W is an 'ambassador' for this charity) from Epstein after his conviction and how an arm of said WildAid came to win one of the ES awards over so many other entrants.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 10:47

Those donations are NEVER addressed @CathyorClaire

Earthshot was referred to the charity Commision ( a toothless tick box procedure in my opinion but what else is there?) by Republic as a result of the Earthshot cofounder and 1 million donor being an associate of Epstein . Stomach churning .

I don't think anyone reasonably can claim that the cost of the Irish presidency- which seems the best model to replace a constitutional monarchy- comes anywhere near that the of the UK monarchy.
Just an example- the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester lived in a 21 room apartment in Kensington Palace for over 40 years, before 'downsizing' to a mere cottage in the grounds of said palace, after it underwent extensive renovations. All of this tax payer funded for someone even a Hello reading royalist would struggle to recognise, who is 33rd in line to the throne.
I doubt the Irish taxpayer funds the lifestyle of their president's first cousin once removed.

I was shocked recently to go to an NHS hospital here in the SE of England. I'd read and heard about corridor care but until you actually see it, you can somehow imagine it away. Actual 90 year olds being washed in corridors. To me it's immoral we have large palaces full of Elizabeth II's cousins which cost you and me millions of pounds a year, but we are prepared to put up with creaking public services. And then blame asylum seekers.

Sure, if people really want a monarchy in 2026, one family in a mansion with security. But not the hangers on, not the extended family, not the multiple palaces and motorcades. Not the sycophantic drivel, not the pictures in primary schools of Charles....

Sure William seems more normal than Andrew or whoever, but one palace is enough for anyone.

Great post! 👏👏👏

Has anyone seen today’s Observer?

There’s an article addressing the very issue I referenced above - the sale of land in the Duchy and how tenant farmers and others feel about it .
The subheading?

‘Charles was great William can go to hell’

Same issue being raised . Profit driven corporate greed on William’s part .

andyburnhamhere · Yesterday 12:23

This Prince William - really really damning report in the Observer. Look at whjat they do not what they say.

https://observer.co.uk/news/national/article/charles-was-fantastic-william-can-go-to-hell-duchy-tenants-face-eviction-as-prince-sells-historic-land?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-gb

‘I thought this was something that could never happen… There was always an understanding that we had a home for the rest of our lives. The Duchy has become more commercial. Ruthless is the word I would use’

Tenant farmer

The local impact has been devastating. Couples with young children, who have no hope of raising the money for a deposit, fear they will soon be homeless. Older people, who have a lifetime of memories in Bradninch, are horrified by the thought of leaving the security of the house they know. For some of the tenant farmers the situation is even worse. They face losing their business as well as their home. Parts of the estate have been farmed by the same family for five generations. Tenants who had hoped their children would one day care for the land that they took over from their parents are struggling to work out how they can afford to buy a holding valued at millions of pounds.

For generations they trusted their royal landlords, but now frightened farmers and locals in Devon feel betrayed by the ‘urban’ Prince of Wales

That article is probably one of the most damning pieces of serious journalism about Prince William ever. He should be thoroughly ashamed.

Aren’t you in favor of the duchy divesting? I’m so confused! Thought you felt it was terrible to have all of this land in one holding. Help me out here.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 12:40

Isn’t it ? @andyburnhamhere

The detail about tenants receiving a hand printed postcard in the days before the announcement of the sale - referencing ‘support’ . When a distressed tenant used the number he was told to get anti depressants from his GP! From Mr ‘concerned face’ about mental health . Utter hypocrite

More of this sort of proper journalism please
And can someone challenge the sale ? William does not own that land .

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 12:41

@OliveMyLove

I want the Duchy rolled into the crown estate and the crown estate renamed the national estate

Can we do that? Just take privately held property? I own so it’s little scary to think about for me.

Almost in tears after reading these accounts. Many of these people were ardent royalists who loved Charles and genuinely believed they were part of the royal "family". Now, at short notice, their lives have been turned upside down, with serious consequences for them personally.

William cannot have it both ways. If these accounts are accurate, then this is the measure of the man. No amount of television programmes, carefully choreographed public appearances or performative photo ops with the homeless can disguise the reality. You cannot cultivate an image of compassion while presiding over decisions that cause such distress to people who have devoted so much of their lives to the Royal Family.

wasnt Brexit supposed to fix that? Free up 50 million or so that would be used for the NHS.

and don’t visit any hospital in Ireland if you don’t want to see corridor care or people dying in beds in corridors.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 12:53

@andyburnhamhere

I agree it’s shocking .
The hand printed postcard . That is such a telling detail. It’s a bit like William’s PR - ‘look I’m all about care and heritage’ except he’s not - it’s sheer capitalist greed with a veneer on top.

I have said before - you may dislike Charles but William will be much worse . I think he’s advised by venture capitalists and is filling his boots before the demographics come for him.

If you are genuine in your interest - Google it
William does not own the duchy .
He is a custodian ( supposedly )

It’s a private trust. 🤷‍♀️

If we take it, who gets to use it? If it were public land why would the current tenants get to remain? Just because they’ve had the benefit for generations? There would be a queue for it.

Oh I’m wrong it was £350 million A WEEK.

Boris claimed the UK sent £350 million a week to the European Union and proposed redirecting that money to the National Health Service (NHS).

The article also points out that William has never visited the farmers .
Not even to tell them that he’s ending the arrangement in place since 1300s? That certainly tracks .

Too busy arguing on football forums or on another super polluting yacht holiday no doubt

I know it's a shocker by any measure and its something he has agency over as Charles had before. The most charitable explanation is he doesn’t bother with any detail and just signs off without any interest other than high level messages. But there are real people here who have supported the institution for generations crying out for help. Hopefully the Observer will follow this up so we can see how this pans out.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 13:26

I hope more proper journalism follows .
So refreshing to see these issues raised properly .

William should also be returning the 1 million donation from his Epstein linked Earthshot cofounder . It’s the moral thing to do though I know he is not legally obliged to . He can replace it from his own funds .

BemusedAmerican · Yesterday 13:36

Then lots of charities will have to return money that they received because many rich donors are linked to Epstein. We have many charities in the US receiving funds from foundations linked to a robber baron. Exxon Mobile funded Masterpiece Theater for years. The cathedrals in the UK were built out of guilt by ruthless nobles and rulers.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 13:46

Are these charities you mention also headed by an unelected future head of state and head of the COE?

This makes no sense whatsoever and, if you don’t mind me saying, makes you sound rather naive in the ways of the world (which I’m sure you aren’t).
