They've not caused me any angst or trauma. They've come back and that doesn't bother me at all.
I am uncomfortable with much of what they did, like the Oprah interview and the Spare book (which I did read and it was interesting) but do sometimes think that some members of the Royal family did need a kick up the arse too.
No effort was made by the Royals or their advisers to tackle the blatant racism in the press against Meghan and they took the "never complain, never explain" mantra way too far. They clearly weren't happy, so getting away for an extended time was probably for the best.
Personally, I think that the now infamous "Sandringham Summit" was a whitewash. A smokescreen. Far more effort could have been made to try and help or accommodate them, but nobody could really be arsed, the Queen included. The only options given were all in or all out.
I personally wouldn't have an issue with half in, half out. The former Duchess of Kent could be argued to have done just that, and in the end was mostly out, by her own choice. I am sure compromises could have been found, but no effort was made.
The Royal Family can accommodate and help if it wants to. They didn't want to at the time, perhaps down to the outdated views and stubbornness of the late Queen.
Perhaps the King will be quietly more lenient. They won't be working royals, they are private citizens. Private citizens can still support and champion charitable causes, and why not? Harry and Meghan have a high enough profile to do this very effectively. If that puts some other royal noses out of joint then so be it. Probably deserved and no harm done.
That's my tuppence worth and I see little reason to change it.
