A new thread and book not even published till Tuesday. I checked on Amazon and its only 12th on the non fiction bestseller list. Doesn't show Earl Spencer in a very good light imho.

Point of spelling, it's Giuffre, not Guifre or Giuffre

Thank you for that .
I should have noticed .
I wish the edit feature applied a little longer

There is a clear and obvious difference between the two situations though - Virginia Giuffre had filed a lawsuit against Andrew alleging he had sexually assaulted her - as part of that process a formal pleading was filed in court alleging just that. As the defendant, Andrew was going to have to plead in response to those allegations, and given his defence was “that never happened” it would clearly be a big problem if the statement from the Palace said anything different to that.

The Palace could have qualified their position in their own statement (saying something like “It is the Duke of York’s position that….”) and with hindsight I suspect they now wish they had. But, sadly, they obviously had unjustified faith in his denial and didn’t qualify their statement. I imagine that’s an important lesson learned right there!

Not only was the palace statement of 2019 untrue it was also an outrageous example of an abuse of power .

They used their privileged position to try to silence Andrews accusor outside of the courts AND while knowing of the Epstein association going back decades

Isn't the first and last the same?

I thought the name she was last known by was Roberts anyway 🤷‍♀️

@DaisyDooley
What a nonsense point .

They are not my family .
I remembered there was one night involved ! Not bad for someone who avoided the whole thing!

It was the night before the funeral ! Even more inappropriate.

Why is it innapropriate?
Would you prefer they were all crying?
At what point after someone’s death is it appropriate to smile? Asking for clarification.

DaisyDooley · 21/09/2026 17:26

Constantrunner · 21/09/2026 16:13

Okay still doesn't explain what a voice like Julian clary means.

It means that in @Janiie hearing, Charles Spencer sounds like Julian Clary.
HTH .

FWIW I find Spencer’s voice affected and annoying. Do you need that explaining too?

Going by the polls on the subject, on this board and AIBU, for the majority of responders (66% when I last looked).

Exactly. Most are absolutely rolling their eyes at this hypocrite. Announcing in his speech that he'd protect his 'blood family' then pulls a stunt like this that will cause W untold hurt amd anguish. Sure he feels absolutely protected, well done Spencer!

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 21/09/2026 17:29

Soencer has a very dull quite high pitched voice dor a man. There is no richness in it. It’s very boring to listen to quite droning,

I’ve no idea why he gets TV gigs.

I've been to three funerals and an interment in the last 9 months, with get-togethers the night before and the day after. The people we were mourning were dearly loved by their family and friends. There were lots of smiles, much laughter, and also tears.

I don’t think a single considered book thirty years after the fact qualifies as a “stunt” actually.

It’s a ridiculous basis on which to criticise someone or judge their credibility tbh.

Yes that was what I trying to get at. Some people are good speakers, interesting interviewees whether the content is agreeable or not. He isn't.

Ive no idea why he'd narrate his book, he's as bad as Harry, don't they ever listen to themselves? You'd think with their egos they would. Spencer clearly thinks his Clary voice is pleasant to listen to.

BillyBites · 21/09/2026 17:59

I’ve heard a couple of excerpts of Harry narrating his own book and he is absolutely terrible at it! Zero expression.

We've judged him on other things too, Spencer has set the bar very low with his silly claims that someone was 'giddy as if he'd won the lottery' when the mother of their kids had been killed. I think we're allowed to critique him as we wish.

MN is well known for having a lot of posters who vehemently support the royal family. It was one of the few sites that had people supporting Andrew and saying terrible things about Virginia. I wouldn't assume it reflects the general publics view.

Julian clary is purposely very very camp. Because he makes his living as a camp gay man who tells jokes.
I don't understand why you are claiming Charles Spencer has a very very camp voice. Unless you are claiming he is secretly gay.

Minestronemusings · 21/09/2026 18:23

I’ve just watched Andrew Lownie talking on this subject and he is agreeing with CS’s position because he says it chimes in with everything he has learned about King Charles in the course of his research about the RF.

Interestingly, he also says that he was in touch with a former gf of Prince Charles who now lives in Canada, who also corroborates what CS is saying. She says that Prince Charles wrote to her expressing very similar sentiments about Diana to what CS has recounted.

Several hours after Lownie spoke about this woman on tv, the Palace had got in touch with her (he names this person btw) and asked her not to talk about it. Funny that!

Richard Kay has also corroborated as has Ken Wharfe. I doubt Richard Kay would put his entire career on the line as a journalist to do that unless CS’s statements are true.

Why would sounding camp necessarily mean you are gay? It’s a way of speaking and behaving. It doesn’t denote your sexuality

Wow so the palace shut up a woman who could corroborate what the king said.
Every day the evidence stacks up more and more that he did say it.

So you are saying he sounds ver6 camp?
Usually when someone makes a strange comment like the one about Julian clary, they are suggesting something.

Charles Spencers voice is not very very camp like Julian clarys. He does enunciate clearly like Julian clary though.

We’ve done the corroboration thing to death. What Charles S claims cannot be corroborated by journalists that he just told that Charles said something. You have to witness something being said directly in order to corroborate it

No I’ve no idea what he sounds like. I haven’t listened to him. I just said that talking in a camp way doesn’t automatically make you gay. I didn’t mention Julian Clary. Or Fanny the Wonderdog 🤪

Corroboration has a specific meaning.

None of this is corroboration of KC’s words to CS.

'Earl Spencer is not interesting enough to people, so a book about him wouldn't wash its face'

Oh people like to see blabbermouths get their comeuppance. It doesn't matter that he's not royalty and we don't pay for him. We all know he's had a life of difficult relationships <even within his own 'blood family'> so while his exes maybe can't share how odious he is because of NDAs, perhaps someone who has there, an 'eye witness to history' as Spencer likes to call gossips, would spill the tea. I'd read it Grin.

Nasty post! Spencer has said himself in one of his interviews that he has been married more times than any man should, and that he is not judging anyone on the basis of their marriage or not.

He is making a judgement about the then Prince Charles for saying something monstrous which speaks to his character or, best case scenario, his temper.

People who unswervingly feel the need to support the Crown are turning this in to something it isn’t for their own reasons.

But as Lownie says, it’s totally unsurprising that lots of people are intent on discrediting CS right now and are playing the man rather than the ball.
