I couldn’t even be bothered to read the end of that. So lazy from PV. Half of it looked lifted from these threads; and the rest from the Sykes siblings.

But the rusty Sussex machine is back to being a very boring thing to write about.

BemusedAmerican · Today 00:48

I trust Dai Davies, recently on Kinsey Schofield, more than Polly Vernon.

OliveMyLove · Today 02:10

I read a bit then got kicked over to “subscribe to read more!” and didn’t mind. It was trying a bit hard.

I wasn’t getting what she meant by Ravec as a verb. For some reason I kept picturing the Sussexes in a Scooby Doo episode.

Did Harry play Rugby? Maybe Archie won’t be interested.

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 06:54

I think the Times article has one thing right, William is more pragmatic than the negative stuff said about him would suggest. That didn't mean I believe he will go out of his way to bring the Sussexes back into the fold, but it does mean that I could see a walk to church happening, probably not this year, without an implosion.

In other words William is a grown up, he knows what his duty is, and he is fully capable of being publically polite to difficult characters. It's basically what he had been trained for after all. Where I believe Harry has a problem is in the fact they William doesn't trust him. We have been told for decades that William's trust, once lost, is hard to regain. I can't see a way back for Harry to the inner circle.

Final thought, why do the papers insist on insinuating that RAVEC decisions are based on how well a family is getting on, or where someone lives? There are plenty of minor royals living here who don't have the type of security Harry wants. They won't be bounced into anything.

Dontevenlookatme · Today 07:05

I agree @MrsLeonFarrell, William is capable of putting on a game face for the sake of the institution and I expect him to do that when need’s must.

I don’t for a second believe that this will extend to reconciliation on a personal level and I would be very surprised if the children are allowed anywhere near each other. People can bang on about denying innocent A and L the joys of cousinhood all they want, they are the product of and link to toxic parents and they’ll have to be kept at a distance precisely because of how their own parents would use them to gain access.

As I’ve said before, I’ve navigated a lengthy estrangement myself, it throws up some difficult decisions from time to time but overall is the best decision I could have made. Keeping the children apart was very much part of that strategy and I’m happy no-one has lost anything that was worth having.

All gingers don’t look the same.

If they all looked like H the world would be a scary place.

And Karen Gillan and Ed Sheeran would be disappointed every time they looked in a mirror.

Or appalled.

I know they don’t all look the same!

PoppysAunt · Today 07:19

I think those are good points, @Dontevenlookatme. It's not simple. H&M and some of their supporters are guilty of over simplifying the situation. It's shocking how ignorant Harry is about his father's role and responsibility, believing that somehow he could both interfere with the press, the decisions of the Home Secretary, and RAVEC. He didn't even realise that the RF was a hierarchy. Meghan gets a bit of a pass, although I'm surprised she didn't do some basic research.
What it boils down to is that H&M have very unrealistic expectations, both on a personal level, and a Constitutional one about the RF and the UK government.
That's the problem.
I agree with you about Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet - again, it's not as simple as cousins playing with each other.

PoppysAunt · Today 07:21

@MrsLeonFarrell- because some people (including H&M) do not understand what RAVEC is, or what it's remit is.

notimagain · Today 07:21

Agreed, and after due consideration by RAVEC sometimes travelling, even overseas, without having tax payer funded close protection for themselves or, even if they have it for themselves, not for their family.

jeffgoldblum · Today 07:45

An interesting discussion I saw on Reddit yesterday…..,people were arguing that if ham get the security that they are asking for …….then all the other royals working and non working should also be upgraded and get the same security too!
cost to the taxpayers aside , I can in fact see nothing wrong with this argument! 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
BillyBites · Today 07:46

Even if RAVEC did amend his security, surely at the very most it would be to “when carrying out royal duties?” And as he won’t be doing any, that’s that, isn’t it? And there’d be no chance at all of Meghan qualifying when travelling back to the US for commercial gain?

I really hope they don’t, Jeff. I don’t think they should get any encouragement whatsoever to stay in the UK or to imagine that they will ever be working royals again. I just feel they’re pushing, like naughty children who’ve been told “no” and don’t like it. Once they’ve got what they want in that department they’ll just feel empowered. I want them to go back to the US or to give up their grandiose ideas, accept they’ve “cooked their goose” , live quietly and never bother us again!

I know I hope in vain, though. 🙁

The flaw in that argument is that it equates status with security whereas, aside from IPPs, security is decided by RAVEC based on individual risk. Using their logic because Taylor Swift received security all big name popstars should. We would quickly run out of resources.

I think H is stupid and M is a shameless pusher. I hope they’ll get a consistent and hardline message about both security and any re-entry into official royal life.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · Today 07:55

I think @MrsLeonFarrellis right too - remember when there was a decision to bring Andrew back into the family fold, William rode in the car with him and was seen walking with him into an event. I don’t think William suddenly decided to catch up with his dodgy uncle, we all saw it as William being prepared to take a deep breath and do what was felt necessary for the family image. I’d expect him walking chatting to Harry to be perfectly easy to get him to agree to if he agreed best for the family (dialling down the drama).

Note for the hysterical- I am in no way suggesting anything Harry has done is comparable to Andrew. Harry has been annoying not evil.

Absolutely. Status isn't security. They told Oprah not only that Archie wouldn't get a royal title because of his ethnicity, but also no security.
From the get go, they have made that mistake.

My own theory is that H&M should be visited by one of the Royal Protection Team, given advice as to their particular circumstances and left to get on with it

I was a victim of a crime several years ago and the police sent someone to my house and I was given very good advice which I still follow

I really don't see why H&M can return to this country after 6 years away and expect more than those of us who work & pay our taxes get

I'm sorry to hear that you went through that 💐, how awful.
Good points; however, a reality check probably won't work with a couple so determined to be so unaware.

I agree @CoffeeCantata! , yes @MrsLeonFarrellwe know this and I believe the people arguing about this understand that too ! , however I believe that was the point they were making, that if ham get security that they are not entitled to or need , then the others should too!
@PoppysAunt….it is yet another example of Harry having no idea just how his entitled behaviour is viewed or the fallout from his actions affect others!
prior to his foot stomping, very few people thought about or knew much about the security that the royals receive….now it’s discussed widely and we all know that they are at times not actually protected! , excellent news for anyone who might have nefarious intentions!

I am certain that Meghan will be kept well away from Charlotte . She really seems to dislike that girl .
I have seen videos where Catherine, Sophie and Camilla appear to stand very close to Charlotte when M is around .
And remember the bridesmaid dress ….

That's a very good point, and surely the first rule of security?
Loose lips cost ships, as they used to warn in WWII. Harry needs to learn to be quiet, although it's far too late for that.

Exactly! , it’s why security is supposed to be private and not discussed publicly! , we are not supposed to know about it! , we are supposed to think it’s always quietly provided, now that illusion has been shattered.
