Once again you're making perfect sense about their MO, bluegreygreen; I'd only add that, since all other opportunities have gone, it's just remotely possible Harry's realised he'll need a different one if he hopes to worm his way back in

This could also explain the silence so far (I don't count "sources" and "it's understood that" as they're too easily made up) and the absence of "Look at us making another new life" on SM

As said before though, it won't last. Unless his father really is stupid enough to grant his every wish, sooner or later Harry will be disappointed and the tantrums will start again

I don’t know. I expect PH will be very happy back in the UK in his culture and community and will be keen relive his childhood through his DCs.

I initially thought he would be cold shouldered and this would sting - but I suspect he has already experienced and felt that deeply over the last 6 years.

Maybe the RF have deployed a bunch of aristos to keep him entertained, distracted and at arms length from the RF so that his bitterness and frustration doesn’t fester and erupt into his standard chaotic behaviours?

Thinking about the Christmas events. Surely the most sensible thing would be to keep everything the same this year. By next year there will be ample evidence of how the Sussexes are going to go about things in the UK and clear decisions can be made.

As an aside, how unkind would it be for Archie and Lily to join in the Christmas walk to church. They have been raised far away from any public spotlight and the large crowds would be the worst way to start introducing them to a public life (which is pointless anyway as they will never have a public role in the way the Wales children will).

Wise words as ever, MrsLF; as has been said, Catherine will be damned by some no matter what she does, so on this at least she might as well do what suits her, and waiting to see how things pan out could be by far the better choice

Thanks - it can get a bit confusing!

A bit shitty of MM to have dumped SmartWorks for 6 years and now looking to pick up again solely for her own self interest.

If she was so passionate about their work she could easily have supported them over the last 6 years from the US.

The problem for h is, he cannot be trusted. Anyone high profile, will naturally give him a wide berth. I'm using CS as an example. If the relationship soured, h will fling him under a bus for $$$$$ and I imagine CS has many skeletons.

Perhaps he's linking in with old school pals who are not high profile

The website is an outdated confusing mess anyway

The website needs a lot of work - I assume it's been left like that deliberately.

Well, absolutely. Plus, what I said upthread - Meghan has hardly been a role model for women in the workplace during that time!

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 15:58

But... but... she's a Founder!

Starryfifty · Yesterday 16:02

I think the only way H will find peace is if he is a working royal again. He seems to flounder without guidance/management. He would have some status and assume he's worshipped again and he'd carve out a role for his children. However and I don't like blaming just Meg as he is worse IMO but there is just no way she can ever be a working royal again

It's an interesting thought, LADDO; the usual view is that "aristos" would rather foster relationships with the principals, but I suppose if they'd actually been asked ... ?

A lot of this centres Harry rather than his wife though, and since what suits one may not necessarily suit the other that could raise further issues... especially since the radio silence means we don't even know if she and the kids are here

Was Harry skulking around Tetbury hoping he could sneak into Highgrove and measure up for the new curtains?

I thought Highgrove was part of the Duchy of Cornwall and thus came under Williams provenance? Please correct me if I am wrong

You're correct. Charles leases it from William.

You need the verb rather than the noun, bluegreygreen ... everything she does "founders" so it follows that being a founder will go the same way Wink

I can't see that H&M would allow the first f2f sighting of their kids to be the Sandringham walk. Those pictures will be worth a fortune when they ever happen and they would want to make money from them - shots taken by the UK media and locals lining the drive would not be the way to do it.

canklesmctacotits · Yesterday 16:15

IcedPurple · Yesterday 15:46

But like I say, they've held those patronages since finding freedom so nothing has really changed. If organisations, for whatever reason, still want to be involved with Harry or Meghan that's up to them. I'm not sure what you want to be done about it? I guess they could be taken off the official website but I doubt anyone depends on that as a primary source of knowledge. The website is an outdated confusing mess anyway compared to the official websites of other European royal families.

Harry and Meghan are not representing the monarch and aren't being supported by taxpayers, so there's no 'half in half out'. It's a crucial distinction.

Edited

This is true that they’re not being supported by taxpayers, and arguably that’s the single biggest distinction. Technically, institutionally, nothing has changed or will change if Harry is splashed on the front page of the daily mail arriving at a Well Child event with police presence/security (if he gets what he wants), members of the public held back by metal barriers, striding to meet the CEO with outstretched hand and enormous grin - whereas at best you’d find a few shots of Beatrice or Eugenie gurning inside a gallery or at a photo call indoors somewhere, halfway down the sidebar of shame.

But in terms of what really matters, the public perception that had people queueing day and night to file past QE2’s casket, that saw football fields of flowers outside the gates of KO when Diana died, the thing that in the modern era allows the monarchy to continue, public perception counts for far more. The monarchy’s PR and media budget (time and money) is testament to that.

Harry considers himself Diana’s heir, she being the self-proclaimed Queen of Hearts. He will be viewed by the public, the people by whose grace the monarchy still exists, as Royal and carrying out (some) Royal functions. Meanwhile, there they will be back in California, trading off this very same royalty or trying to.

I don’t really know what can be done about it. They won’t be present at any banquets, diplomatic functions, state occasions, military events etc. Will that be enough to distance themselves enough from the RF so as not to be able to trade off/profit financially of their royalty? I’m not so sure.

I can't see why any charity would associate with either of them tbh

I can. MM is the only reason i have heard of SmartWorks, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. It sounds like a good idea for a charity. I haven't looked into it at all, but the basic premise sounds like a good one.

I wish they would! She’s now a divisive figure, to put it mildly- what on earth are they thinking welcoming her back?

I don't think Harry can be a working royal again either.

He has consistently shown at best a lack of understanding of, and at worst a total disregard for, the constitutional processes of the country.

I'm thinking of his attempts to pressurise the professionals of RAVEC, and his rants against HM Courts during his security case, along with the repeated suggestion that his father could intervene in the case.

There has also been the recent personal vilification of the judge in the ANL case.

All this is before considering that Harry has repeatedly shown himself unable to keep his mouth shut when it would be much wiser to do so; not the best recommendation for a post representing the government.

CoffeeCantata · Yesterday 16:35

I cannot imagine how anyone could think H could ever be a working royal again. It’s not a matter of vindictiveness, and it’s not up to KC - He’s simply ruled himself out of that role. He’s done and said things which would bar any official role, just as anyone would if they disclosed confidential or sensitive information on a global platform and for commercial gain.

if there’s anyone on here who genuinely thinks he could be allowed to return to an official role, can they explain how these problems could be overcome? How would the secret services view the situation? How might foreign or British politicians and diplomats feel about interacting with him?

damnatiomemoriae · Yesterday 16:36

That is a perfect explanation @bluegreygreen

He chose the role of useful idiot.

At least he excelled at that.

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 16:39

@canklesmctacotits Diana wasn't a working royal after her divorce in 1996.

Exactly. As the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity. And for a small charity it's massive free publicity.
But I do think the royal family website should stick to working royals. It can't be beyond the wit of someone to come up with criteria that allow former working royals who are effectively retired to still be included (like the Gloucesters) but leaves out the sussexes. It's insulting that there are photos and guff about H&M's blink and you'd miss them, time as working royals.
