Harry on the other hand seems to have nothing except his royal adjacency. Even his charity work is only there because he was a working royal. He hasn't picked up new charities since he left. Mind you he seems to believe he is still a working royal which may be behind this enormous grudge that the family don't view him in the same way.

Absolutely. Isn't it pathetic that he doesn't get this? He's often compared on here to a tantrum-ing toddler and one of the ways that's true is his childish inability to see that some situations are not reversible. It takes time for young children (in developmental terms) to understand that, and H doesn't seem to have grasped it as a 41 year old. It's not just a regular spat between siblings - H and M said terrible things about the RF, the UK and KC, W and C in particular which can't just be apologised for.

They either don't understand this, or disingenuously pretend not to understand, that you wan't walk back from these things. It would take years - years - of re-building trust to even re-establish family relationships - doesn't he understand that official royal life is now closed to him??

Yes, @MrsLeonFarrell, I agree - it's pathetic, he does seem to think he's still a working royal! That's the bit I just can't get my head around. I'd love to say to him "Whaaaaat? After you rubbished the whole royal business to a global audience and threw terrible shade on the now king, PoW and most spitefully, the Princess of Wales, saying they were trapped etc, and you think you can just pretend all that didn't happen???"

I hope the RF will just let him get on with it and not be provoked. It reminds me of the archaeologist Mortimer Wheeler who put all the terrible diggers into one empty trench (known as the Chicken Run) where they couldn't do any harm. All the competent diggers knew this but the Chicken Run lot faithfully trowelled away, believing they were doing valuable work!

Meghan eyes return to charity work and media access

So basically they are accepting that the only things that have worked are the ones they were given as working royals. 6 years of nothing so they are back to pretend to be royal again. So much for not needing royal adjacency! This paragraph though is the important one.

"Sources close to the King have emphasised that while he “naturally welcomes” the opportunity to see more of the Sussexes “in a private and personal capacity”, he is “clear” there will be no change to their status as private individuals and non-working members of the royal family."

lippylippy · Yesterday 08:13

I do wonder if the King does naturally welcome the opportunity to see more of the Sussexes. I know H is his son and they are his grandkids but their visits must be really stressful. I would not blame C if he could not be bothered.

HoldMyWine · Yesterday 08:18

If I was KC I certainly wouldn’t be making the Sussexes my priority

SheinSussex · Yesterday 08:24

Was Harry skulking around Tetbury hoping he could sneak into Highgrove and measure up for the new curtains?

I have little time for 'sources' tbh (it's usually used to peddle conjecture and false info) but I think this is a very important snippet. I don't believe for one moment that KC has changed his mind on HAM's royal standing and I think he will want to get all this settled before William takes over. He will put the future of the monarchy first and HAM will be sidelined - this may suit M but I think H will always be bitter.

Yes, he's far too busy. I suspect Harry has little understanding of the demands on the Head of State.

It's utterly selfish of Harry. His father has cancer and could be very ill indeed, we just don't know. But certainly his doctors will have advised him to avoid unnecessary stress.

Yes, in an ideal situation KC would want to get to know the Sussex children, but it's not an ideal situation. The stress, family ructions it would cause and general 'importing of problems' just isn't worth it. To be brutal, there's not much in it for KC. If he has only a few years to live, it's neither here nor there whether he puts in all the work necessary to rebuild a relationship with the parents (because he can't really do much with the children otherwise).

I hope KC will just keep it to semi-formal encounters, entirely focused on the children, and also insists that HE takes the initiative, not H or M. And definitely doesn't let them worm their way back, or involve W and C.

What about Thomas Markle? Will he be part of this projected 'forgive and forget' one big happy family? Have A&L met Mr Markle yet?

prejudiceandpride · Yesterday 08:48

I'm quite surprised they haven't posted anything on social media yet.

Harry hasn't even met him. Almost 9 years since the engagement

If it’s important for KC to have a relationship with his grandchildren, surely the same should apply to their maternal grandfather.

MaturingCheeseball · Yesterday 08:53

You don’t suppose they are actually in Highgrove ? If H was spotted in Tetbury…. Since C&C are in Balmoral it might be a “welcoming” gesture to let H&M land somewhere with existing security.

I was listening to a PR podcast and Alison Boshoff was talking.

She said the whole PR briefing around the Sussex’s is crazy and chaotic
She seemed to think he was close to the Spencer side but mentioned perhaps not Charles.

She talked about Harry setting up a rival court in the Cotswolds. But who’s going to fund that

Alison said they know they can get what they want by using the kids. Meghan won’t get booed at public events if she’s with the kids as most people are nice and won’t boo children (we’d better not tell her about the republic protestors booing the wales kids)

Ditto no one wlll want the kids to be ‘unsafe’ so they will push for security on that basis.

I just saw an As Ever as on Instagram for spread and bubbles....Jesus... A picture of glasses of prosecco with jam at the bottom. It looks disgusting.

Unless maybe it's a joke? Hard to know... But if its real I can't imagine actually drinking that - and I'm a big fan of bubbles.

I'm just wondering why Meghan is unaware of security arrangements. The family will get security.
I'm guessing that the push is for 24/7 armed protection? I could be wrong.

I see Maya Jama is the sign up for The Gentleman Series 3 after a part in Series 2. Sorry, Meghan.

She really has an absolute cheek, I do hope that no charities entertain her nonsense which is purely to get herself publicity .

SheinSussex · Yesterday 09:19

Maybe the IG post is a riff on a Kir Royale or Chambord Royale? As Ever Royale perchance? But jam in sparkling wine? Really?

SheinSussex · Yesterday 09:21

As a PP asked about my user name, it is Shein Sussex. She in Sussex never occurred to me. But you’ll be pleased to know that I have just claimed AsEverRoyale (you may curtsey).

AustenitesUnite · Yesterday 09:23

I'm willing to bet there will be a Sussex news story this coming Wednesday

It's been announced that Prince William (& Princess Anne) will be attending the funeral of King Harald in Oslo on Wednesday

It's appalling in the circumstances but there have been so many other occasions when the Sussexes have tried to upstage one or both of the Wales's

I think that's entirely possible, MaturingCheeseball, though there's the issue that William now owns it, which would raise questions about what his attitude actually is

As I've said all along we simply can't know; the RF are saying nowt and anything H&M say is widely distrusted, so while I personally believe they'd be insane to welcome him back only time will tell
