Royal Lodge will mostly likely quietly be rented out to a proper wealthy family, like Fort Belvedere has been, to lift the maintenance costs away from any clear link to KC or public money.

Very very unlikely anyone other than William will be included in KC will. Sovereign to sovereign transfers are completely exempt from inheritance tax.

Generally a monarch will set up trust funds for their children/grandchildren (QEQM did it for her great grandchildren as well) during their lifetime so they don’t appear in their estate and then absolutely everything else is left to the new monarch with the understanding that they’ll follow wishes with regard to loaning jewellery and paying rents etc.

That way absolutely no IHT is paid.

I can't believe it. I don't understand why Meghan would to do this. They have to be nearly broke or they believe that William will imminently become King as they will be left with nothing (or both). I just can't picture any other motivation being strong enough. Meghan clearly hated her time in the UK. The move will radically reduce her options in Hollywood and as an influencer / lifestyle seller in the US market. The entire point of her jam was that it was made in the American Riviera. That's a much harder product to sell from the UK. What's she going to do here?

I know people are saying that they want a UK education for their children but I really doubt that that motivation is strong enough to lead to this move. The US will have good schools and a wide range of options for University. Uni matters much more than the primary school that you attend.

It's a weird decision to move back particularly virtually every big venture they've done is to have a dig at the RF &/or the UK:
Wanting/ demanding to be part time royals
TV interviews
Book
Suing newspapers
Pissed off at government over protection (I actually think they have a valid point here)
California lifestyle brand
.....

It seems very precipitous to me, I wonder why the sudden rush?
Will there be new revelations about the pair of them imminently? Or are they imagining that they’ll be welcomed with open arms.

There's obviously something more going on - wonder what it is? Some deal with Charles Spencer perhaps? Will be interesting to see how long it is before they start falling out with people here - they create such drama everywhere they go.

It's being reported on Realestate.com.au that discussion are underway to sell the Montecito mansion off-market as maintenance costs rise about $1 million annually. I would assume then that they can't afford the mansion and may be in serious trouble if the costs order goes significantly against them tomorrow. It seems likely that they're moving for money.

This! Best of luck to them. They have had more scrutiny than other royals and we all know why, whether they’ve misbehaved or not. We know how the media portrays certain people.

It's been said that they will live outside London and the children are enrolled in school - so presumably the intention is to stay for a while; possibly to cement their children's place in the royal family for the future, after all they are the king's grandchildren

If they are in a secluded manor house in the home counties and kids at a local prep there is no reason why they couldn't live a quiet family life, if that's what they really want. They could redeem themselves and take on genuine charity work and quietly regain the affection that the majority of the public had for them in the early days

They can't be broke but they may well have been trying to live a billionaire lifestyle 'only' having millions. They don't seem to have any income stream except Harry's Better up role, which I think was said to be $1 million a year, and whatever Meghan gets from As Ever. None of that even adds up to their $3 million yearly security bill (estimated). They have a really big mortgage as well. So broke in their terms, if not in ours!
