I think it’s rather off to speculate about Charles’ health but just to note both of his parents lived with cancer well into their nineties. He will have the best treatment available. He isn’t going anywhere soon.

I do wonder what the posters who thought the King had played a blinder hosting them at Highgrove are thinking now. They were convinced he was keeping them at arm’s length when what he was clearly doing was extending the hand of welcome.

Charles is showing how little respect he has for the people. He wants H back in the fold and the scheming and manipulation has started.

We’re being told there will be no royal role and no change to the status quo. For now. Behind the scenes there will be all sorts of plans to get Harry more patronages, send them off on overseas tours etc.

Charles worked relentlessly to get Camilla accepted, Camilla who was going to be styled “Princess Consort” and then later “Queen Consort”. What happened to that?

This is Charles’ wish, bugger what the people want.

Ha, this popped up in my active list after I logged on to MN after many years away. I coined the acronym 'HAM' back in February 2020 so it's funny to see it's still going!

I've been out of the loop and not following what they are up to since then, but I'm rolling my eyes at them coming back to the UK. I saw someone mention that they think it has something to do with Harry's American visa, and I think that may be a good guess. Cynically I also wonder if they want to get their feet under the table/be established in the UK for Harry to maybe write another book in future about the King's last years.

Hi, I remember you and remember you creating the term Ham for Harry & Meghan!

It was amusing, and yes, it's stuck!

We were on several threads together, I was under a different name. Welcome back!

LemonDash · 20/08/2026 10:21

@DandyAF oh and I agree that Harry's visa probably has something to do with this.

Vespanest · 20/08/2026 10:24

I think this is more to do with the children and establishing their future. The two children are currently in no man's land with titles in a country that have little meaning but removes their ability of a normal life. I can see HAM wanting their children to spend sometime as working royals or at least have the option to. It's not just about wealth it's about generational wealth and I can not see them having enough for their children to live a life with the expectations that come as a prince and princess. They should have followed Anne's example. As for the media, they are the media.

Really hoping she is not hounded by the press to the point of suicide.

Well obviously.

I do think her issues were postpartum MH from the timing that’s just an assumption.

But I do not understand this press thing. Obviously they can be meanies (a polite word for it); but if the press ignored them I think it would upset them more.

So what they want is only good coverage - which is not how these things work. I hope they had counselling around that. It must be an upsetting rollercoaster to be on - but they do want to be on the rollercoaster so it is what it is.

Grasslawn · 20/08/2026 10:30

He will be working on the next Invictus games.
He is also angry about loss of security. What will happen next especially with their children at school? This will shake things up. Maybe they are going to enjoy this.
It will be interesting to see how long they stay here for.

But they don't have the option to be working royals. They never had. Andrew wanted his daughters to be working royals when they reached adulthood and it was turned down - that's 15? 20? years ago. Because they are children of a younger sibling, they have no role.

Archie and Lili are the Beatrice and Eugenie of their generation. With the added disadvantage (in RF terms) of their parents trying to do a hatchet job on the RF in general and KC3 and William in particular.

JSMill · 20/08/2026 10:31

This feels just like Megxit in reverse, done in a hurry, with no real apparent plan. It’s one thing to flounce off when your dc is tiny but not when they have roots. We had to relocate to the UK in a hurry when my dh was offered a job. We had six weeks to find a nice house and a school for both of them. We were really lucky we actually pulled it off but it was unsettling for them. Despite the fact they had spent lots of time in the UK and had family here, they felt like fish out of water for a while. I wouldn’t really recommend it. We didn’t have a choice in the matter, it was take the job and go or turn it down. We are not millionaires with the luxury of choice.

Princess Margaret's children were never 'working royals' and they are in exactly the same position! They will thankfully fade into obscurity as G,C and L grow up.

They're back to promote themselves and their children. It was, it is and always will be all about them. It'll be nothing but trouble from this day onwards. She creates havoc and discord wherever she goes. They won't be keeping a low profile. They will try to set up their kids as the new royal stars.

Have you read anything about PW since Harry left? He's said countless times he doesn't want him in the family. Would you really be fine with your brother coming back when he'd upset your grandparents. Then thrown a tantrum while his grandmother was dying. Then offered no support to your father or SIL when they were both diagnosed with cancer? And that's without the stupid book Harry released. If you'd be fine with it you're a better person than me.
Don't forget PW turned down the opportunity to see Harry recently (and apparently told KC not to) so I seriously doubt that he's suddenly delighted his brother is coming back.
Still they might move to Portugal when they realise how hated they are altogether I'll feel sorry for the people of Portugal.

Ok being fair to H, you can't say he didn't offer support. He did rock up to visit Dad for a whole 20mins before Dad said Goodbye I'm off to my country house.

More likely W&K and C&C wanted things kept private, and really didn't trust rent-a-mouth to do that.
So best way to keep things private was to make sure H&M were kept at arms lenght.

That too. They can't keep the kids isolated in the US indefinitely.

I think its a combination of factors that's made them move.

Cloverroll · 20/08/2026 11:07

I wonder if they've decided their bread might be better buttered if they try to get back in as working royals? So no half-in, half-out thing, but a complete in? And they think it's best to get that sorted now, before William is king and there's no chance?

JSMill · 20/08/2026 11:09

Thanks but no thanks - what if we refuse to accept delivery / pretend we’re out?

The courier will leave them with your next-door neighbor. 😁

But they can't be a complete in. They turned it down and spent 6 years trashing that option.

That too. But that will be a lonnnnng game.

They need to be fully accepted by Charles & William before anything will happen. But its easier to build bridges if you can visit little and often.

We know the RF are good at the long game. Look how long it took for Camilla to really be accepted and some still don't accept her.

Recklessismymiddlename · 20/08/2026 11:15

But that will mean, William, Kate and Sophie will have to be on board. They all have Meghan’s measure.

I suspect William would have a few words to say about that. I cannot see it happening.

So Meg won’t be permanently living with her children who will be at school in the UK then?

People:

‘While the family’s longer-term residential plans remain unclear, PEOPLE understands Meghan will continue leading As Ever from the couple’s international bases, while Harry will be able to spend significantly more time supporting U.K.-based charities and patronages.’

International bases!
They are so full of themselves 🤣

JSMill · 20/08/2026 11:20

They need to be accepted by the public. I can’t see the type of people who typically turn up to royal events being accepting of M.

They have a house in the US, will have one here, and they have one in Portugal. I don’t know if anywhere else.

It would be interesting to know if IVG are being charged for any of these expenses under the ‘living in the UK to support the games 2027’ …. It wouldn’t surprise me!

No, but it's possible over a very long period of time - just look at the rehabilitation of Camilla.
