Duke of Sussex & Others vs ANL: thread 6

bluegreygreen · 15/08/2026 09:37

This is the sixth thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) brought against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers Limited; ANL) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).
The claimants were: Prince Harry (PH); Doreen Lawrence (DL); Liz Hurley (EH/LH); Elton John (EJ); David Furnish (DF); Simon Hughes (SH); Sadie Frost (SF). They were represented by David Sherborne (DS).
The defendant (ANL) was represented by Anthony White (AW).

Judgement was handed down by Judge Nicklin on 7th July 2026.
All claims were dismissed.
Links to the summary and full judgement are below.
We are currently awaiting decisions around costs, following the Consequentials hearing on 29-30th July.

The threads to date were thorough discussions of the evidence (so far as we were able to obtain it), with posters giving links and explaining their views.
Following the judgement, we discussed the judgement itself, the reaction, statements made by different parties and ongoing relevant issues.

We have mostly kept things civil by avoiding more general discussion on Royal Family members, which can become partisan, and trying not to be derailed from the main topic of the thread.

We have occasionally included (when things slowed with the title case) other cases or discussions with a specific theme of free speech/press freedom, particularly when related to those with money or power preventing others from speaking.

The BBC are very much avoiding the costs hearing verdict! This is the interesting bit!

If BBC avoiding then hopefully Sky news will cover it properly.

He’s no doubt got the judgement. After all his fuss about the press and security!! Pa is definitely bailing them out as USA work has dried up. America can educate dc too! Such shallow hypocritical people!

Agree 👍🏻

Good morning all.

I know it's difficult, but please can we try - as much as possible - to stick to only Harry and the claimants on this thread, and avoid other RF members?

I agree re the timing of the announcement yesterday. I suspect we'll have a judgement later - I haven't seen one yet this morning.

If ANL want to go after PH for part of any costs, it'll be easier surely if he is in the country. (plus hopefully he'll be chased for the costs in the RAVEC case)

If I were ANL he'd be who I'd want to focus on. As well as EJ (who has the actual funds to pay).

Agreed. Although he surely wants to avoid "Harry runs from paying his costs by staying in America" headlines.

I guess one way or another he's confident about paying.

BasiliskStare · 20/08/2026 11:03

Thanks @bluegreygreen . I agree re keeping this to the ANL case . I hope you have been doing your speed reading limbering up exercises as I for one am grateful for your behind the headline analyses 💐👓🤓

On the Jeremy Vine show they said that it's £50 million that's been awarded to ANL. Have I missed something?

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 20/08/2026 13:14

@bluegreygreen It is relevant Harry’s return has been announced today. It’s a an attempt at diverting news away from the case. It’s about controlling the narrative and somewhat cynical.

bluegreygreen · 20/08/2026 13:23

I haven't seen it on either site I use @Curlygirl06 - has anyone else?

Totally agree with that @MeetMeOnTheCorner.

That's what ANL is asking for (more or less), isn't it? The ruling's not out yet as far as I know?

I was proudly wrong about 10am this morning Smile

AutumnCrowOfTheBailey · 20/08/2026 13:47

So, 2pm then? Tomorrow teatime? I mean, come the fuck on, Judge ...

bluegreygreen · 20/08/2026 13:48

Maybe he's going on holiday tomorrow afternoon so it will be Friday at 2 pm?

I only caught the tail end of the conversation, I think he was saying that the judgement hadn't been released officially yet.

Mylovelygreendress · 20/08/2026 14:36

Just popping in to see if result is in ? Can’t see anything on BBC but hopefully someone will post here soon .
My friend has just ordered a second bottle of wine so must dash …..

Kirschcherries · 20/08/2026 15:00

On Jeremy Vine they said H was liable for £18m. Then the £50m figure. Then it’s not been released so no further forward.

It was a bit difficult to follow as one of the talking heads was being very rude and wouldn’t let the other person talk.

Curlygirl06 · 20/08/2026 15:10

Just listened back, Jeremy said that it wasn't out yet, but apparently PH's share is £18 million, though he didn't say where he heard that from.

Curlygirl06 · 20/08/2026 15:12

@Kirschcherries sorry, cross posted there.

So Montecito gets sold and back they come.

Where are all those posters saying they were incredibly talented and would be billionaires without the shackles of the RF?

Recklessismymiddlename · 20/08/2026 15:19

Making themselves dizzy with all the twists and turns.

Recklessismymiddlename · 20/08/2026 15:21

Sorry forgot this was ANL thread.

I suspect will be either 10am or 2pm tomorrow. Has to be really 😁 if it’s this week. Or if I was the judge 4pm tomorrow afternoon then off on my holiday with my phone turned off!

Not to mention living their best lives!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 20/08/2026 16:24

@Baital The news this morning suggested they were keeping the Montecito house. Which makes me think the king is paying for the uk one.
