Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

MrsStarkey · 29/07/2026 20:26

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

Maybe contact MNHQ as to why the cheese threads were pulled? They will explain it to you I'm sure. They cancelled the thread(s), not posters.

As for the problems with mentioning pigeons on chess boards, that has been explained on various threads.

This is a thread about the culture of this board and the opinions of posters though, not about rules!

Also, since moderation is report based surely that means people reported the threads and complained or MNHQ wouldn’t have bothered.

So the posters here who brought it up as an irritation would be best placed to explain, right?

You asked a question.
I answered it. I wasn't involved in it so I politely suggested you contact mnhq if you really need an answer.

There's no point in me prolonging the conversation with you. Hope you find what you are looking for 😊
Good luck

mn hq only delete posts that break the guidelines. so not just because someone is irritated.

(I with drew my post on the site thread as I posted on that one instead of here by mistake)

MrsStarkey · 13/08/2026 16:29

No need to be so on guard. I am simply explaining my logic in asking the question of the board. You don’t have to participate if you don’t know the answer, of course! Sorry I’ve obviously offended you and will agree to leave it.

But you mentioned it so I wondered about your thoughts.

Is this still a discussion board? 🤐

How would I ask, anyway?

“Dearest internet moderators at UKs largest forum, a poster mentioned some bit of minutiae in a thread and then another poster told us a little about the history of it. I asked for clarification and yet another told me to ask you.”

I’m thinking they have enough on without me adding my bit of curious dross!

I haven't got a scooby what's happening but it's not the first time today on the board, so perhaps I'm just having one of those vacant days where I need to prance about saying 'hullo clouds, hullo birds' like dear Basil Fotherington-Thomas.

Rule 34: Read Down with Skool cover to cover as a guide to the British public school boarding tradition.

adragoncalledaudrey · 13/08/2026 16:58

It is a discussion board.

It is frustrating to see discussion shut down with a waaagh and a waaaaaaay and a hey - nonny no. I often think if folk do that, then they have nothing of value to add and I wonder why they bother posting at all.

If threads were shut down historically, I’m sure if anyone broke guidelines they would have been told at the time.

I’ve only seen some threads pulled because of privacy concerns/trolls.

I can imagine if enough sensitive souls were irritated or faux outraged enough by subject matters and reported in a dedicated and concerted manner, then perhaps they would get threads deleted. The squeakiest wheels get the most oil they say.

I see plenty of squeaking. I also see folk that I think would be squeaky and be fond of the odd gallon of oil.

Could I be bothered squeaking to get rid of a thread or a poster? No. As it is a discussion board.

Personal attacks excepted of course. I don’t like when people do that.

threesocksmorgan · 13/08/2026 17:14

I don’t really remember the cheese threads, not a fan of cheese so not for me.
mnhq don’t randomly delete threads so there must have been a breaking of guidelines

AnAutumnCrow · 13/08/2026 17:15

'Hullo sky'.

Yes, @adragoncalledaudrey and @MrsStarkey. We are all on a thread on a discussion board, chatting about the culture of this board.

I don't like it on discussion boards where posters start trying to get under another poster's skin. Niggle, niggle, niggle. That would be another rule I would like tbh - as in, don't do that.

I didn’t know any threads were deleted!

Just wondered about your earlier comment “pigeons and cheese”. Oh well!

@AnAutumnCrow I agree. Unless you mean me. Then I still can’t disagree. I was born a little sister of 4. So “What’s that?, Who’s that? Why’s that?” is sadly in my nature.

Sometimes annoy myself. Hullo Birds!!

The above clouds are wishful thinking.

At the moment - instead of what was promised - I have barely there drizzle. I’m still grateful but want menacing clouds and all they hold in them!

bluegreygreen · 14/08/2026 14:04

I've read the first page and now I'm hungry!

Missed the threads because they were a few months before I started reading the RF board.

(bluegreygreen - loves cheese, hates gifs)

threesocksmorgan · 14/08/2026 14:20

oh so one of the threads was deleted.

IAmATorturedPoet · 14/08/2026 14:59

Thanks @jeffgoldblum I enjoyed skimming back through those two cheese threads. Some usernames on there I haven't seen posting in quite some time, hopefully they are still on the board and just posting under different names 😊

The cheese Coat of Arms- 👏 😂

Yes ! , it was like a trip down memory lane 😁 , still no idea why they were mass reported 🤷‍♀️ and for @MrsStarkey, all I can tell you is the message I received from mn , it simply said “ we believe cheese has run its course “ , that was it! 🤷‍♀️

simpsonthecat · 14/08/2026 15:33

That's strange. I have just looked at the deleted thread (you linked to it on the 2nd thread) and it says more than that?

'They were becoming too much like threads about other threads which goes against our Talk Guidelines'

Don't blame the messenger 😂

Well unless you have access to my personal email, that was the message I received from mn ! 🤷‍♀️

jeffgoldblum · 14/08/2026 15:42

How very odd! , this is the only message that Is displayed when the deleted thread is clicked on!

I'm sure that was what you received by email, don't doubt it! 👍🏼

How very strange. You did a link to the new thread 13March at 0813. I clicked on it and got this..

Sadly we have decided to remove this thread - we feel that the Cheese threads have run their course. They were becoming too much like threads about other threads which goes against our Talk guidelines.
