She did indeed and on the morning after QE2 died she realised she was on the wrong side of history when the whole world were paying their respects. She set up an impromptu interview with her mate Gayle King to plausibility deny everything - fascinating watch.

OW is a shark. Only ever out for herself.

The interview with Oprah is the Sussexes’ biggest PR fuck-up ever and it remains the biggest danger to their brand. It shows a couple falsely accusing the UK of being racist, and the royal family of racism. These are unforgivable acts. It’s the main reason I don’t think they’ll ever be accepted back in the UK again.

The Sussex PR presumably knows that false accusations of racism won’t wash in the UK any more. The UK is sick of it. And there’s the Sentebale court case incoming that will see Harry himself exposed to various allegations that may well be true and evidenced. So he’s going to be on the hook for more hypocrisy.

Sounds like the Sussex PR machine might be (very foolishly) manoeuvring to blame Oprah for putting words in M’s mouth; and OW has got wind of it and is on counter-manoeuvres to get ahead of the Sussex PR machine?

But surely there would be other people in the first class cabin? Unless they took over the whole cabin, what with the children, the nanny/s, the PAs, the security guys. First class tickets the whole entourage must also add up to a sizeable sum. And then they've all got to be whisked on and off the plane in complete secrecy. It just seems unlikely no one would see them. eg walking a short distance on the runway from blacked out Suv to the steps up - passengers looking out of the windows would see them.

I never understood why OW agreed to this. She does not need the money, publicity. Is it the fact that the US don't understand how influential the RF are?? QE and PP's deaths were fairly imminent at that stage. It just seemed like such a bizarre PR move

He (Theo Rycroft) denied it though, and as the claim came from Charlotte Griffiths of the Mail during the period last summer when she was still right up HAM’s arse (PR-wise) according to her own recent account, I’m inclined to veer more toward Theo Rycroft’s denial now as the truth.

Could well be. There's a reason OW bringing all this out again. She's much savvier than HAM.

It’s funny isn’t it that we start talking on these threads about archived transcripts and copies of the OW interview existing (on the PR 24 thread, I think), and how this is a major issue for HAM/OW for posterity, and all this starts happening

I get more of a "throwing HAM under the bus" ploy but OW will have the money to pay for the inevitable post divorce interview and her and Meg will be best buddies again

I think you may be right - but my take is that she's still playing both sides as she has not really come out and said they lied to her ... so there is still an element of HAM appeasement. I think Oprah recognises that the soft soap interview was a mistake and a failure on her part not to challenge some of the HAM assertions - but she had in her head the HAM would be the next big thing and she was wrong.

It is interesting that she picked out the question to Meghan "were you silent or silenced? [by the RF] for this retrospective. The way Oprah is playing it now is along the lines of "Meghan said she had been silenced so I let her speak, but I'm not responsible for what she chooses to say!"

There was a rumour the other week that H and/or M are sniffing around an opportunity to sit for a Gayle King interview - but not sure if it's true.

Oprah - now in her 70s - has to ruminate that she never got the interviews she wanted - Diana, Catherine and William. Instead she got Fergie and HAM. She has really burned her bridges with the RF both for broadcasting HAM lies uncritically not to mention insisting on broadcasting while 99 year Prince Phillip was dying.

Thanks for the Private Eye account of events- loved it. Someone on X was speculating that M believes she has been silenced again by the conditions around the Highgrove meeting so Oprah is leaning into that.

It’s an interesting idea. I suppose the three of them (HAMOW) can believe what they like, but they won’t get away with the ‘I was silenced’ shit again in the UK; and Charles is considered a good egg in the US now among HAMOW’s own democrat-leaning circles.

Possibly and most probably. However the OW was to put it mildly, full of holes and really should have been challenged, by someone of OW standing. That OW didn’t challenge Meghan TradeMarkle (brilliant) is her error.

Shes not on their side - shes on her own side. When OW panicked a did the extraordinary Gayle King interview after QE2 died she kept saying - I didn’t know it would be a “bombshell” !!!! Of course she did

A private jet from California to London costs well into the 5 figures, as the usual small aircraft can't fly that distance.

A lot of the older business jets won't handle it but that.sort of sector would.be well within the capabilities of the newer ones, but as you say it would cost.

That said I agree with you that they should have been able to travel F or J class with any reputable airline and not either be photographed or commented on...that's always been the case, which is why some of the security claims are overblown...certainly genuine working royals have managed it over the years.

I think the idea they almost always fly business jet is not at all correct, certainly not these days.

Now Tatler are at it, pushing project thaw via Mike Tindall. Apparently because his mate on his podcast included a clip from the podcast Harry was on where he named him as a sportsman he admired it’s an “olive branch”. 🙄
