King Charles these days

I have to say the King is playing a blinder these days, I’ve been following the royal family on instagram and he has been out and about at different events. I’ve seen some lovely interactions between him and others. He seems more at ease with himself and very naturally chatty with people who have come out to meet him. Very relaxed and friendly.

I think he’s always been decent.
“more sinned against than sinning” sums it up.
He must be heartbroken by the antics of H & M.
Thankfully he has his wife and son and their families to support him so on balance he’s doing well.

I like him as well but let's not pretend he's always acted decently. He didn't treat Diana well, and he was a distant father to his boys when they were young. Harry exasperates me, but I do feel sorry for him because I can see the utterly traumatic effect his mother's death had and it seems he received little emotional support from his father at the time. It breaks my heart to think of that young boy trying to navigate all that.

Yes I agree

WildWindySeascape · 16/07/2026 09:33

By all accounts, he is doing a fantastic job. Well done KC 👏 (and I am a republican at heart).

MShadows · 16/07/2026 09:39

i have always liked him. think he does well, he and Camilla seem a strong couple.

Tablesandchairs23 · 16/07/2026 10:02

His PR team are doing a great job making him look good.

MinLynn · 16/07/2026 14:41

I was a critic but you get time softened my views. I am now highly impressed.

His recent American tour made a highly positive global impact. Particularly his speech to US congress. He handled a tricky situation and I now consider him a highly respected leader. I hope others will see what he’s doing and model it.

It’s nice to read this and it means more coming from the republican perspective.

Just stop the poor man having to wear a suit in a heatwave! And his grandson

Charles doesn’t have to wear anything he doesn’t choose to. His clothes are always beautifully tailored and accessorised, he’s a bit of a peacock really. I’m not sure he does casual.

PotolKimchi · 17/07/2026 10:02

Sure, he wasn't a hands on father but I suspect neither was Diana a particularly hands on mum by our modern standards of parenting. They had nannies and both boys went to boarding school at 13. It is absolutely dreadful to lose your mum and to not have a supportive dad but Harry then had all the other privileges most kids in this situation don't have. He never had to worry about his parent not having a job, he never had to worry about not having a job himself when he grew up. This doesn't take away the emotional turmoil, but it certainly made his life easier.

(Just as Kate's cancer ordeal was very real but you cannot deny that having access to the very best care without NHS waiting lists and not having to worry about her income was a privilege not all cancer patients have).

Charles seems to be making positive decisions supporting communities that feel under threat, visiting synagogues and mosques as one example. He genuinely believes in multiculturalism and promotes it. The Kings Trust has made a great difference in the lives of young people over the last few decades. He spoke up on the environment very early on and continues to champion it, many would have given up in the face of the ridicule he used to face. He champions traditional crafts and started charities that offer training and experience to keep them going. He has stopped making what could be seen a political comments since he became monarch. Others have covered his diplomatic role.

Overall I think he is championing community unity and healing and at a time when many politicians are seeking to divide us from each other that can only be a good thing.

Well said. I have changed my view on him over the decades. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but he had good foresight. That is a good strength for leaders to have.

They actually both went to boarding school from the age of 8, Ludgrove.

Not much decent about how he treated his wife

I think he wants to dress for the occasion and show respect to the occasion and to those who have made an effort with the event, and want to meet him. I've seen pictures of him in gardening and walking clothes, which I suspect are his comfort togs!

Clonakilla · 17/07/2026 10:31

I’m a republican and I like them both. They come across as though they like each other, have a broad range of interests and are doing their best in the extraordinary situation they’ve been landed in.

I feel very glad that my worst behaviour isn’t public knowledge.

We are lucky to have King Charles. He is a lovely fellow.

My elderly Aunt spent some fine times with him involved in a charity.

Proud to have KC represent me diplomatically. He is one of the best World leaders.

Love his stance on the environment and on bringing attention to many worth while causes.
The King's support of his extended family Is admirable too.

Isn't there a story about how Charles has everyday not going out as King clothes from donkey's years ago?

Yes you’re right, he’s a countryman at heart. He doesn’t quite hold his trousers up with baling twine but not far off!

He definitely has his jackets patched. I do admire his refusal to throw out perfectly good items in favour of wearing them. Mind you, he starts with the very best, it’s not like he’s restoring a high street garment.

My grandfather, like many of his generation, wore his oldest suit for gardening.

He finally matured when he reached the age of 70ish. I think QE2 knew what she was doing holding onto the throne so long.

Hopefully th same happens to William, who isn't a walking disaster but seems rather shallow.

I don't think he's "shallow". He was a rescue air ambulance pilot for 10 years. Now he's focussing on mental health, homelessness and sustainability. He seems to be a decent Dad and husband.
I don't think it's about pontificating or larking about for him.

Charles’ strength of character was indicated by how he handled the death of Diana, his former wife and mother of his children.

It is well documented.

Are you saying she made a conscious choice to live out her natural life? I can’t see her contemplating the alternative.

Charles is a flawed character but I don’t think that has anything to do with maturity. He is conflict averse, that’s for sure, and who can blame him, given his father’s robust approach to parenting and his experience at school. A reactive personality like his younger son’s would be disastrous in a monarch.

I don’t see William as shallow at all. He may not be particularly intellectually or artistically curious but he clearly thinks about what contribution he can make to a better global society as evidenced by his work with ending homelessness and Earthshot, to take just two examples.

Probably be a lightweight fabric for hot days when he's working
