King Charles these days

I have to say the King is playing a blinder these days, I’ve been following the royal family on instagram and he has been out and about at different events. I’ve seen some lovely interactions between him and others. He seems more at ease with himself and very naturally chatty with people who have come out to meet him. Very relaxed and friendly.

His PR machine is very slick in instagram, I agree.

I agree, he is doing what is asked of him, and it is being reported quietly but regularly, especially since his excellent speech in America. Turns out he won't be such a bad figure head after all.

(If you exclude the fact that he hasn't sent his brother to the tower yet)

I suspect that if he wasn't wearing a suit he would be wearing a kilt. My dad is a few years older & only feels respectable once he has put his shirt & tie on each day.

Whereas I do feel sorry for George being stuffed into a jacket & tie. I suppose it will be dressing down once he starts big school.

I think he’s always been decent.

He must be heartbroken by the antics of H & M.
Thankfully he has his wife and son and their families to support him so on balance he’s doing well.

To be fair my Dad was cold even in the heatwave, maybe Charles is similar.

I find the Royal family Instagram interesting, the press never report on at least half of what is in there. The Princess Royal is in South Korea at the moment, I had no idea.

He’s been brilliant and is a true force for good.

Absolutely, so has Camilla.
She has really stepped up the engagements and comes across as interested and caring.
They are both playing a blinder compared to both the PoW and his wife, if she can do 3 peaks she can do a weeks work.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable question to me. I do not see the king as a force for good and I would like to know in what way he is.

Of course he's a force for good! Look at all the charities he supports - the King's Trust alone has helped thousands of people. He supports the work of the military, the Church (all faiths, in fact).
In being apolitical he can speak truth to power.... the US State visit was a resounding success.
And not only does he do good because of his position and status - "soft power", if you will - I think he's a genuinely kind man, who wants the best for people.

I noticed that Charles had a very lightweight light coloured suit on the other day when he was photographed with a 104 ? Year old I think. Suede shoes. Pale brown socks.

Sorry-is this supposed to be a thread for newcomers to the subject of the RF? If so I apologise, but I must have missed that. A poster made a very positive statement about the King, and I asked for supporting evidence.
And if you really believe it’s possible to put a Republican or anti monarchist point of view on the RF board without being accused of having an agenda you’re reading a different Mumsnet to me!

Yes he and C are amazing. The speeches he delivered in Washington were brilliant. They do have a great instagram account, which is a sign that they know they need to move with the times.

My take on Charles.... I am no fan of any of them, but I think in time when his son is Monarch we might consider Charles has been more of a force for good than we had realised at the time. Maybe I will be wrong, maybe I'm being unfair, but I think W will be more exclusive, distant and less visible.. just my opinion.

I don't actually like the phrase 'force for good' because I would disagree that any of them are actually that. Clever IG posts are not a 'force for good', that's just clever PR. However, to give praise where it is due, Charles played a blinder in Washington.

On a shallow note, I have always thought that Charles is a natty dresser, whoever sorts out his outfits deserves praise.

Charles seems to be making positive decisions supporting communities that feel under threat, visiting synagogues and mosques as one example. He genuinely believes in multiculturalism and promotes it. The Kings Trust has made a great difference in the lives of young people over the last few decades. He spoke up on the environment very early on and continues to champion it, many would have given up in the face of the ridicule he used to face. He champions traditional crafts and started charities that offer training and experience to keep them going. He has stopped making what could be seen a political comments since he became monarch. Others have covered his diplomatic role.

Overall I think he is championing community unity and healing and at a time when many politicians are seeking to divide us from each other that can only be a good thing.
